Great Burgers, po_boys, sammiches, lunch specials. Atomosphere is awesome
Nothing else quite like it in Baton Rouge. Spanish Town Market (or "Spanish Town Grocery") is a survivor. It was around when the city was bursting with new industry 100 years ago, it somehow held on when downtown was on life support in the 1980s and 1990s, and it's still open for business today. You can feel the history when you see it and walk inside. And the hot food is usually very good. For more serious grocery shopping you may need to go to Matherne's a few blocks over. But they have the basics. And you'll meet some interesting people.
We got the club sandwich with sweet potato fries, and a club salad. Very good. I would have given five stars if they let me have a beer with my lunch. They sell beer, but it can't be consumed there.
Went here very often when I worked nearby, so much so they knew my name and order. Still eat here as often as I can when I'm around. Food is outstanding, service is friendly. Yes, it takes a little longer than most places to get your food-but it's fresh and delicious, well worth the time. This is my favorite burger in town (get the Texas Melt).
Great place bit it seems as if your not a regular or a part of the "spanish town click" then they don't exactly fall all over themselves to help you or interact with you.

Great service, beautiful historical building. Delicious food that you can tell great care was taken to prepare. Best mimosas I've had too. Can't wait to visit again.
This place ended up being a pleasant surprise. My fiancé and I were wanting a light meal before we headed back to our hotel for the night around 9pm, and while doing a Google search came across this place. We ended up ordering the Gumbo and the Soup of the Day, and it was absolutely fantastic, with a generous portion size. I would highly recommend if you are in the area.
The service and food was great. I had the pot roast with potatoes and green beans. Delicious. Highly recommended.
I'm still dreaming about the french toast and vodka freeze and it's been three weeks!! Great atmosphere. Classy. Nice prices. Great food!
I sat at the bar for a quick lunch, I had great service from the bar tender. The spinach artichoke dip was great, but the show stopper was the home made chips. I also had some sort of summer salad with strawberries and blueberries that was one of the best I've ever had.

WOW! The cheeseburger taste so delicious!!! These foods are real and very well cooked!!! And also they got the best gyro which is my favorite food from Akasha. If you want to try to eat gyro and come to akasha market only.
The catfish poboy competes with Tony's across town. Skip McDonald's around the corner and get a burger here. Great selection of household items, canned goods and beverages including alcohol. Awesome staff.
Akasha market is awesome and is definitely a baton rouge legend. Its been around forever and the family that runs it is crazy nice and friendly. Their burger is a monster and famous in baton rouge. The tigerland food scene is growing but this is definitely still the best place for amazing greasy soul pleasing drunk food when the bars close. If you go to LSU, check this place out. Theres even a hidden and semi-secret hookah lounge/ outdoor cafe/ patio thing that overlooks the golf course ponds where they'll set you up with hookah if you're cool and get in good with them.
Very friendly. Good prices, good food. Has a cool place in the back to hang out at!!
The best burgers around.

Delightful!! Went by with a couple of buddies at lunch. We ate like kings and had enough to bring home... maybe it was because we saved room for the delicious shakes, but we all had regular-sized burgers and shared an order of duck fat fries. Do not miss these fries!!! The shakes are awesome, too.
They have a selection of burgers which was good. The beef patty was thick, and the flavor of the meat had a black pepper taste. The fried onion rings and the duck fat fries were also good. I give the fat cow three stars.
Great food and fantastic concept. Only regret is we were too full to try a milkshake. I had salmon on blue cheese salad and it was just as delightful as my husband's Delta burger. Flavor combinations and quality were right on... We shall return!
It was OK, but nothing special, especially for the money I spent. Almost $60 for four burgers (one double), three small fries, one soft drink and one shake. Two waters. About $35 worth of food, being generous. Definitely not worth even close to $60. Maybe they have a lot of overhead. I won't be going back.
They have good, fresh tasting ingredients and the burgers are meatier than most other places. Great duck fat fries, too. The bleu cheese wedge is as good as any steakhouse around town. Get the monthly special burger and/or shake if they have it. The owner knows food and has some great ideas in the kitchen.

Burgers are delicious and the atmosphere is terrific. Staff members are helpful and enthusiastic. I believe this exceptional atmosphere is why most customers enjoy this place so much. With that being said, today as I was ordering my food, a manger came to the sweet young lady taking my order and thought it was appropriate timing to reprimand her for a mistake she had made on a ticket. And by "reprimand" I mean degrade her. Having no choice but to witness this, I was extremely disappointed. Those conversations should be taken care of in a much more professional way, and not directly in front of a customer. To the sweet young lady taking my order- keep smiling. This place is known for its awesome atmosphere and your smile and kindness is the first impression on your customers. I'm sorry your manager ruined that for me today!
One of the best burgers in town and one of the few places you can get great tater tots. Nice clean restaurant with a decent decor. They don't do phone orders on Fridays, kind of a bummer, but understandable considering how busy they get. The bar area appeared well stocked but I didn't partake. Give them a try, their burgers and brioche buns will not disappoint you!
Burgers are seasoned well, buns are lightly buttered and toasted holding the meat together pretty good. Fries are average, and the atmosphere is laid back and chill. Only downside is that there isn't much seating in the main dining area. Thankfully, there are fans outside making the outside dining experience a little bit cooler in this Louisiana heat. I will definitely be back.
The bacon cheeseburger I ordered was plentiful. It tasted fresh. Atmosphere was on the whole good. The radio that was playing kept going in and out and when we asked for the station to be changed the manager on duty responded that he could give a f$#k. Not sure I will return.
Best burger I've ever had. Came here on a trip from California. The Truffle fries are amazing, fresh buns and of course excellent burgers! The staff are very friendly and John, the manager is running an awesome team.
