“Nice smoky and spicy flavors; as Marc Murphy says, "seasoned with authority." Very nice staff. The cucumber pickles took me right back to my childhood, to family dinners on the High Plains, prepared by my bachelor farmer great-uncles and an unmarried aunt or two, who had their Southern roots in their memories. Yummmm!“

“Just had an outstanding time in San Diego at a, confidential name unwrapping, barbecue spot. You haven't truly savored BBQ until Josh served you! His smile made my perfect BBQ plate even better. Seems they know a thing or two not just about top-notch service, but also feast a knockout Big O'Melt sandwich, tantalizing chicken fingers in buffalo sauce, and by the look of their busy dog-friendly patio, even pets have a favourite. They took casual dining a step higher I giving us outstandingly delectable Tim's old-fashioned treats. Perfect for viewing sports on screen. BBQ heaven, here we come! Astonishing setting with music, a mini arcade for extra fun, friendly staff even my kids felt at home the in playground. A vibrant vibe in every bit. Notably, Alejandro, attended to us beyond measure. Now I have well matches face, name and great service! Unbelievable mac n cheese, brisket, and bread pudding offered consistently whipped us into indulgent fancies. The next outing has already been hinted at by my family. The family-style platter was a whirlwind satisfaction for all 12 us. Feisty meal-portions for the win! Now forever we will be their fans!“

“Lookin for a good barbecue spot aside from Phil's BBQ. This one popped up. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking. It can get busy so plan accordingly. Seating: Inside and patio parking. Great for groups. It seems to have about 100 for capacity Vibes: This is in the North Park area. Thus, it's crowded and eventful, and parking can be competitive. The spot itself is pretty neat - spacious with a little vintage Western - Cowboy look. Great place for big events, celebrations, or if you're tying to catch a game. FOOD: Broiled ShortRibs - Borracho style(Recommend) I was sad that they don't smoke ribs on Sunday but this was still pretty good. Juicy, savory, and right off-the-bone type of barbecue. Smother that beef with some sauce and you're in for a treat. Now the borracho is like grits or a tamale, a base of polenta (cornmeal) with cheese, onions, and peppers - relish and serrano. The borracho was an experience and made this dish extra fulfilling Potato Salad (Recommend) So many choices of sides but this stuck. I enjoyed the cold chunks of potatoes to help calm the flavors and clean your palate. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly people who were quick with the service. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Deelish! Reasonable prices, good selections, and pleasant vibes. If you haven't been to Phil's BBQ then yet, try that out. However if you're looking for less of a mainstream yet creative flavor. This is your place. Enjoy! TIPS: * They don't do smoked ribs on Sunday * Borracho means drunk“

“The resturaunt itself was nice and clean. The service was friendly. The mashed potatoes were really good. Everything else I was not impressed unfortunately. It was our first time here. The brussels sprouts, asparagus and bread were ok. The brisket was pretty good to ok but could have been more moist but the steaks were even more dry, didn't seem to be marinated, very under seasoned and flavorless. We ordered mediums but it seemed more medium well. They remade one of the portions that was supposed to be medium rare but it came out tasting and looking exactly the same. It could be the steak itself and not necessarily the way they're preparing it, I really don't know. It just wasn't good, and what we really came there for was the steak so it was pretty disappointing.“

“This restaurant is in downtown La Mesa seriously amazing. Probably the best burger I've ever had. I got to be the last burger before they sold out. it was so juicy but honestly this sauce they put on top has like southwest flavoring, and they have roasted poblano peppers on top of the burger. So much flavor but not falling apart. This place is clean, nice and the most accommodating staff. The owners were there and took care of us personally. It's definitely worth the line.“

“This place was a pleasant surprise for me. The food was very delicious and we came on a great day where it was cold and rainy outside. It look a little but longer than usual to receive the food and bill, but the taste of the food, friendly service, and great atmosphere made up for that x 10. I wish I lived closer to keep eating here!“

“I'm from Texas and I take BBQ very serious. I haven't tried a bunch of their food but I love their bandit sliders! Sooooo good however one time I had them and they were extremely salty and the bacon was burnt so bad it tasted HORRIBLE. Other than that actually have a grill outside which is the correct way to make BBQ.“

“Update 04/2024After whofting down a scrumptious square at Cali BBQ earlier this month. I experienced a most profound epiphany. Thanks Cali BBQP.S. BLOWS PHILS OUT OF THE WATER!Posted sometime about 2 years ago maby I think. ow my head.Awesome BBQ. Blows Phil's out of the water. We ordered 4 big meals and it was ready for pickup in less than 15 min.Vegetarian options: Vegetarians have every option that any other political party. They have a right to assemble, run for office. Shux I think there even allowed to eat yogurt, fish, cheese and each others farts. Let's face it, if man kind had evolved on veggies alone, we'd all be flapping around in the sand on a beach somewhere, burying our 2000 eggs she blasted in our mouths and made us risk our lives on this funkin beach. Dang it. I just got eaten by a carnivore.Dietary restrictions: That sucks I'm sorry to hear that.Parking: If your the type that stops your car before disembarking. Cali BBQ has a state of the art, multi million dollar rectangle of cement that can support your vehicle and prevent it from ripping down through to the center of the earth.Kid-friendliness: BBQ = Kid behavior on the positive side. Occasional loud mouth, some snoar-ers, 2 cry babies. 0 unfreindlieness.Wheelchair accessibility: You cant miss it.“

“We went to Smokey and the brisket on a Friday with my husband's family, we all have various wants and desires and Nicki handled all of our very different things with grace and professionalism. From our crying child about a cheese pizza to our grumbling bride working on her veil (at a BBQ place I know not the best idea but I was trying to get it done before Sunday) his family had flown in and were starving. She was fast and considerate to us and all around made that experience. Even joked with me about how a chicken sandwich without pickles was a crime against chicken sandwiches everywhere. She made our visit very pleasant. Nicki was the best!“

“I don't know how i haven't left a review here before! I've been going here for years. At least 5/6. I come every Monday for wing night and it's my absolute favorite tradition, I've never had an issue with the service or attitudes. I know all of the serves by name and they all know me. They're always very polite. And the wings are always phenomenal! They always do their best to accommodate whoever i bring and even bring out heaters if it's too cold outside. I am absolutely obsessed with west coast and all of its employees.“

“The ssssalivation is REAL! Coop knows how to do it right! His Q is legit. Tasty, tender, juicy ribs n brisket that don’t need any sauce. Every bite that slides off the bone has loads of smokiness. They go down like buttahh... But, le’me tell you, that spicy sauce is so dope. It’s bursting with so much flavor and adds some heat to the bites. It’s just a cherry on top of the sundae. So ask for the spicy sauce. It’s so good.Their sides are all great. Starting with that cornbread. The pieces are huge and perfect. They have the right amount of moisture that they don’t get all crumbly n crummy. So yummy! I could stop there, but I love their bbq beans that have chunks of pineapple. Didn’t expect that my first time there when they first opened. But I’ve been a sucker for it ever since. If you don’t want something sweet, the red beans n rice are also great. They even have chunks of the brisket in it. I must say, I never really had collard greens till I discovered Coops. I’ve had it since at other places, but I really like the way they make the greens here. I always gotta have it on my plate to complete my scrumptious meal. I usually order for pick up and bring my stash home for the fam. There is limited seating inside and outside if you can’t wait to get home. The tortuous drive is the hardest part for me!Thanks for keeping the legend goin, Coop!(The only drawback: the hours! Please stay open past 3pm. People don’t grab dinner before then. The business will at least triple if it stayed open to at least 6-7pm! And summer is coming!I’ll do (5) stars for service then. ; D )“

“Attending a mixer function hosted by the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. It was okay. I did try their whisky!First time for me. I learn from other people that the fermentation process can last couple years and not gone bad.Personally I can't say much of their products being it's my first time tasting it. I want to try it, cuz the night was freezing and I need some alcohol to get me warmer. LolThe parking was a b****. Luckily when I arrived there were two spots left!!! HehheheheI didn't try their food. Or was the food stands theirs?! No clue.“

“Always a great choice to meet up for a cocktail with friends. While we love the inside atmosphere, we all prefer the great outdoors these days and Tivoli has ample outdoor seating for our needs. Prices are not over the top, and it’s a great corner to people watch…especially during Halloween and Comic Con.“

“Really cool little spot. With very reasonable prices. We got three different items and they were all great. We got a couple different stuffed buns that they have and they were both very good and we also got some pork and that was amazing as well. The ladies that work there are all very friendly and you’re in and out of there quick because it’s like a cafeteria style line.“

“Service was good. Prices were reasonable. Decor was fun. My teriyaki chicken with rice was good. My daughter ate all of her chicken teriyaki bowl. My wife’s teriyaki steak was burnt, though. We sent it back (they actually just left the first one at our table). The second one was almost as bad. The server noticed and took that dish off of our bill without us asking (which was nice). Stay away from the steak and you’ll be fine. We would go back, so please don’t take this as a negative review.“

“My parents use to work here way, way ,WAY back in the day when it was owned by the Jensen's. This is one of the few things I do miss about California. Whenever I'm back in Southern California, I always make sure to stop in. Great food, great atmosphere. All around, a definite must.“
“Nice lamb mixiote and lamb barbacoa served here by the kilo, or in tacos. I am partial to the mixiote, but would recommend the "Taco Suave de Barbacoa" if you wanted a bite-size sampler of what this humble but high-quality operation is capable of. Omar S.'s review has all the in-depth detail you need, and you should read it.“

“In general their meat is good ... Their sides need some work. Beans aren't bad but they aren't great by any stretch. Coleslaw isn't bad but again it isn't great and has a tendency towards the dry side. They could gain a lot from improving these two staple sides for BBQ.“
