“Been going for years..Great, delicious food that tastes so good you can only expect to stuff your face 😋 It's got the flavor of the authentic BBQ w/char, beef pork and chicken meat falling off the bone ..with a perfect sauce that doesn't taste like it's full of sugar or fake ingredients..It instead tastes like years worth of perfected quality. “There is a wait if you go inside the restaurant but it’s worth the wait! I ordered the Sampler plate the #1 it had a big portions of each item everything tasted delicious the cornbread was moist and the garlic bread was toasty. “This is a hole in the wall. Line up and get your food and take it out to the outdoor public seating. They have an eclectic mix of (I want to say) Filipino barbecued pork, barbecue, chicken adobo, curry chicken, spicy chicken, some kind of sausage, fried rice, plain rice, chow mein. The barbecue pork is so expletive delicious! It has a sweet and charred flavor.“

“The menu has a solid selection of meats and seafood. The highlights for us were the 5-Spiced Marinated Lamb, Marinated Pork-Belly, the Sweet Spicy Cajun Chicken, and the Cumin Squid—all packed with flavor and cooked beautifully over the charcoal, which provided a unique, smoky-char flavor. The sides/appetizers (Rice Paper, Beef Soup, Steamed Egg, House Salad) were similar to what you’ll find at most Korean BBQ places, but the Boiled Whole Peanuts were a pleasant surprise. They were perfectly boiled and had a great texture. As for the sauces, I highly recommend their House Garlic Sauce, Sea Salt Sesame Oil, and House-Spicy Powder, which pair well with their vast meat menu.
One thing to keep in mind is that the restaurant is pretty small, so it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to arrive as early as possible since it can get crowded very quickly. My group ended up waiting about 1.5 hours for a table. Despite the wait, the food was excellent, and the staff was very accommodating, attentive, and professional throughout the experience.
Overall, this spot is definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something a little different from the typical KBBQ experience.

“HIDDEN GEEEEEM!!! This place is inside a grocery store which is unusual find but, hear me out... one of the best places for Chinese food. They have combo meals, and also ala carte meals and it just doesn't look and feel authentic, but it literally takes you to China, or Hong Kong. One of the best pork chops ever and also the steamed vegetables are so tasty! I would definitely go here for a quick lunch grab or a good sit down meal.“

“Second time here and it's still amazing. They have great service and are very friendly. I love how they keep asking you if you want more. I think the prices are good for the quality of the food . I love their steaming egg pot it has great flavor. My favorite bbq place.❤️👍😊“

“Honestly, this is one of the best Korean restaurants for both traditional Korean entrées and AYCE BBQ. The quality and taste of the meat is really good for the price. It does get quite busy on weekends, but the staffs especially many of the male servers are efficient, attentive, and work really hard to keep things moving.

Overall, hands down I have no complaints. To some of the people leaving overly harsh comments, try giving the staffs a little grace. The restaurant gets extremely busy at times, and everyone is doing their best to provide good service. Many employees that I have known spend holidays like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day working instead of celebrating with their own families. Come on man. A little patience, understanding, and appreciation go a long way. Let’s be thankful and treat them with kindness.“

“This has been my number one place to go to for the most delicious and most freshly cooked, roasted pig, regular, whole-roasted duck, and whole roasted-open duck in the whole San Diego county!! I also like their roasted pig feet and head!!😋 I have been going here for about over two decades. I have not tried their other dishes though. My favorite dish is their whole, open roasted duck!! It's really tasty and has a lot less fat than the regular, roasted one, but it still has the right amount of moisture and flavor in the meat, except the head. The duck head is sometimes dry if it is later in the afternoon. I usually get it during their first batch in the morning when they first open at 9:30am. The Cantonese lady who's also fluent in Vietnamese and English would always ask me if I want my duck to be cut. I like to watch her cutting the whole duck into nice bite sizes and all into a box nicely and neatly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who likes the dishes I mentioned here!“

“This is probably my first review without photos because honestly everyone else already uploaded plenty. I don't even think this place needs my review, but Yelp said I only needed one more review to unlock some Korean Restaurant badge, so here I am thinking about SongHak again haha. This place is seriously clean, and the staff are always polite, respectful, and attentive to both the food and the customers. I usually come here for date nights with my wife or family dinners. Honestly, imagine enjoying good BBQ and cold beer on the weekend, then walking around Convoy afterward... life feels pretty great sometimes.
Wishing the business continued success and that the food quality always stays this good. Oh and parking around Convoy during meal hours is an absolute nightmare but luckily I'm an angel at finding parking haha.“

“Loved the Korean cuisine at Chon Ju Jip on Convoy Street! Nice, small, family style restaurant that makes you feel you are dining at someone’s home. We enjoyed the #25 bossam and #32 Jap-chae. Everything was delicious, definitely one of the top if not top Korean food in San Diego. Friendly staff and the food came out quick. There can be a line and wait depending on the time you go. Highly recommend!“

My most favorite part that I love about this place is that you get the opportunity to be creative and become your own chef. “I loved their lao papaya salad! Only thing was at spicy level 10, I tasted no spice. I guess this is a ME problem. I eat too much spicy! Their lao sausages are also so good!

“BEST JAPANESE BBQ SPOT EVER! My family have been consistently coming to this resturant for years to celebrate any special occasions or birthdays. The meat, rice, side dishes, and rice are always delicious. The staff are welcoming, accomodating, and even recognize my family now. I highly reccomend the family combo as it offers a good balance of beef variety and value, especially for larger parties. The portions are not the largest and on the pricier side but I think it's worth it for the quality over quantity. Free parking but it's difficult to find available spots especially at night, as expected of Convoy tho. The restroom is nothing special, single room, and in the back next to the kitchen. Will definitely continue to eat here !!“

Dania is been there for 7 plus years and she always so kind and she will take care of you weather online order or in person. Miguel the cook in the back makes the best food hes amazing. “When they first opened up, I ordered their seafood soon tofu. The food was just okay. There was nothing special that popped out to me and their banchan was just ok. What I appreciated was that they gave you packets of seaweed with your meal. I came back another day and got their seafood kalguksu and the consistency of the broth was more thick than what I was used to. It wasn't horrible, but definitely an interesting taste.“

-BBQ Pork and Roast Duck on Rice $16.95- crispy pork skin, yummy! Roast Duck, mostly were bones

-Beef Stew Wonton Soup $14.95- tender beef and tasty wonton. The soup broth however was not at the desired temperature. It should be hot and not warm

“When we entered there wasn’t anyone, and tbh the restaurant’s design looked a little bare… it almost looked like it wasn’t doing well. When the food came, my entire family (with three kids) loved it. We were here for lunch and ordered noodles, and I could just say it’s comfort in my belly. Tho they took our order wrongly and served us an extra bowl of noodle (and we paid for it), we took it bcos we wanted to try something else from the menu.

A senior lady (I suppose she’s the one who cooked the dishes) came out and asked if everything was alright, and even gave us a free bottle of drink. Oh, there was also a small crowd also flowed in during our meal as well.

BBQ chicken is slightly better than the pork.

They dip the bbq sticks in BBQ sauce before they serve you. Please note that the bbq sticks are already pre marinated with that same sauce. Ask them not to dip it if you don't want double dip.

Pork tocino is amazing as well as their sinigang. Good prices as well!“

“Best L&L is all of San Diego. The food is excellent and they have more options than all the other ones. Plenty of seating inside, tables are clean, great value too.

There is plenty of parking, its very family-friendly. Best suits medium parties or smaller. Indoor and outdoor seating. Easy to find parking, but it still gets busy.“

“Yum! So many meats and goodies to choose from. I love the self-order kiosk right at the table. Prices seem reasonable given the all you can eat format.

Be aware that it is all about the meats at a place like this. Vegetables are in short supply, but condiments are available plus rice, corn, mushrooms, onions.

I highly recommend this place whether you are with your significant other, best friend or a whole group of friends. The only drawback is that they get busy and they don't take reservations. So, you may have a little bit of a wait.“
