“Best food we’ve eaten in Tahoe area. It’s a lil cafe inside a lil grocery store. We stopped in for lunch on a bike ride. The Thai udon soup and chocolate chip cookies are my favs so far. The salads in the fridge and homemade bread look amazing. Really sweet, helpful service. We ate outside at shaded tables. Will def be back.“

“I went to Cloud Sushi a couple of days ago with my family. They have a cute outdoor setup, and since it was a beautiful day, we got to sit outside on the benches.
We ordered at the window and I was very specific about needing my food to be gluten free. Unfortunately, I noticed immediately my food contained gluten before I ate it and alerted staff. However, the chef came out and rectified the issue quickly, which I really appreciated. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our visit!

The rolls i ordered were fine, and my partner and dad got the chef’s choice boxes, which they enjoyed. The prices were reasonable, and overall I appreciated the friendly service and the effort to fix the gluten-free issue.“

“The food was good overall, but it fell short of expectations. I love the eclectic combinations, and the ingredients were high quality. The scallops and Mac n cheese were elite. The tuna tartare and ribs were very good. The halibut and butter lettuce salad were ordinary. The cookies and cream sandwiches were offensive given the level of the restaurant. It felt like something out of a grocery carton, and ultimately pushed me to give a 4-rating.

Few people come to Tahoe for the food, but Sage Leaf made this meal feel like a destination in itself.

The burrata appetizer was beautifully composed. The citrusy yuzu jam, perfectly toasted bread, savory prosciutto, and creamy Di Stefano burrata all worked in harmony. Every component felt intentional and contributed to the dish without overwhelming the others.

We also loved the Niman Ranch pork chop. The citrus brine kept the meat remarkably tender while giving it a clean, bright flavor. Paired with creamy polenta and perfectly cooked mushrooms, it was both comforting and refined.

The house-made pasta was another highlight. It appears to change with the seasons, and this version showcased a thoughtful selection of vegetables that truly felt like “eating the season.” The combination of balsamic and pesto was unexpectedly delicious—the acidity of the balsamic brought out the richness of the Parmesan beautifully.

What stood out most was the care behind the food. This is clearly a kitchen that cooks with intention and respect for ingredients. Our server, Brandon, was excellent and made us feel that same level of thoughtfulness throughout the meal.

If I could offer one small piece of feedback, it would be that a few dishes seemed to have many ideas competing for attention. A bit more restraint and a clearer focal point might make them even more memorable.

“We did the four course tasting menu and every course was excellently prepared and exquisitely presented. There are choices for each course so each of us ordered different items so that we could taste everything on the menu. Such interesting items like fir needle ice cream. This is now out favorite restaurant in Truckee and look forward to visiting on future trips to the area. We had high expectations and Trokay exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Trokay!“

“I was so impressed by the service at Dopo Pizza & Pasta. We made a reservation for our anniversary on the Saturday night of Labor Day weekend. The restaurant was packed and they were running behind. Our table was delayed by 20 mins. That certainly could have tanked our evening but the manager and wait staff went above-and-beyond to make it up to us, offering wine and an appetizer on the house while we waited and continually checking in with us. Some problems can’t be avoided in a restaurant, but the way you handle them and take care of your guests are within the establishment’s control and the management of Dopo exemplified the “right” way to handle these things. Oh, and the food was great, too! Highly recommend the burrata app.“

The sourdough toast with homemade blackberry jam was AMAZING. Only regret is they don't sell it by the jar.“

First off, let’s talk about the egg sandwich—it was genuinely egg-cellent. (Pun fully intended, zero regrets.) Pair that with a phenomenal cup of coffee and a vibe so relaxed it practically lowers your resting heart rate the second you walk through the door, and you've found breakfast nirvana.
It’s also an ideal haven to pop open a laptop and pretend you're being immensely productive while mostly just admiring the decor. To top it all off, the staff is ridiculously charming and welcoming, making it nearly impossible to leave without a smile.

“This restaurant is fantastic! Lukas was one of the best servers I have come across. They have unique and flavorful twists on traditional Scandinavian dishes. And the manager Jeff sources local foods. The ahi appetizer in cones was a recommendation from Jeff and did not disappoint. Our Schnitzel was fabulous and so was the elk pot pie. It was quiet at the time we happened to be there so we got to chat a bit. We learned that the owner’s daughter is the pastry chef so we had to try the cheesecake. Also delicious. It was just a great dining experience.“

I spotted a church building with a small sign that said, cafe open, as I was making my way out of town with haste. Alas, I found exactly what I needed. Score, big time. It is a beautiful, tranquil space, and the sandwich I had, Ban mi (add turkey)...beyond exquisite. The lavender drink concoction was eloquent and refreshing. “let me tell you something. I grew up in Sun Valley. Tahoe is part of me. My sister called the night before. They didnt take reservations. But, we told them what was up. my sisters n I planned a weeks trip for my mother's 78th birthday. We hadn't all been all together since my littlest sister was 4... 36 yrs later we are all in one place. Our mother wanted to see her friends. Basically our second set of parents growing up. We pretty much pretended we were nonchalant about it. Their daughter n us put a scheme together to surprise them all. Weeks of planning. The night staff left a note for the morning staff. They open at noon. The party of three showed up at noon... us, the party of six showed up 10 minutes fashionably late. So we could surprise n give our elderly parents arrhythmia.The staff was awesome! Table ready, James our waiter was spectacular...the food.... awesome. Not many restaurants would be asking as people came in... are you the party of 9? lol my sister from another set of parents...as her mom confused said " no we are a party of 3" and her daughter leaned back and whispered ..." yes we are the party of 9. but they don't know shhhh!" it was spectacular! Thank you to the staff... you all rock! I hope if we ever make it back and you're still are rocking the vibe we got today, we will be there. You all take care of your staff. Today this place made our moment so special. We cant say Thank you enough.“

“The food is good and we like stopping here for a quick bite. It can get very busy and loud and we’ve always had to wait a good while for the food. The calzones are the best and sitting out can be a lot nicer than indoors when the weather is right.“

“A bike event on Sunday turned into a cold, rainy, windy, miserable day. We went to The Dam Cafe for hot chocolate and got so much love! The owner not only welcomed the wet, muddy riders in, she put out space heaters and wrapped us in blankets! Amazing! I was so cold and was warmed both physically and emotionally by the kindness. The food and drink where delicious. Can’t say enough good things. A little cottage of heaven in Tahoe City!“

“Gourmet pizza! We love coming here whenever we are in town. Family owned business and the owner is a wonderful person. We had the pleasure to meet him 3 winters ago. I am so glad how this place gets more and more popular!!

Taste and ingredients are great. The temperature control on the pizza is on point. Price on root beer is so good! Can’t beat that.
One thing to note, it does take long time to get the pizza, if you are in a rush, you can either call ahead to order or try this place when you have time to enjoy. It took us about 45mins to get our pizza a few weeks ago.

“First time in... Food was good and the portion was decent. Not very busy and three servers were on. Service was slow I felt and the bartender was less than friendly, charming or outgoing. Maybe they were having an off night, I don't know. I would go back but maybe just for drinks? .“

“One of our favorite places in Truckee, both summer and winter. Very comfortable inside and outside, and always a nice atmosphere. They also have a really impressive wine selection, including some bottles that are not easy to find.

And definitely save room for the cookie skillet with ice cream! We get it almost every time and it’s worth it :)
