50 Best Barbeque Restaurants near Downey

“I am preparing myself to write the most detailed review of Chris & Pitts Family Owned Restaurant in my hometown of Downey, California. Chris & Pitts is still one of my favorite restaurants and deserves its’ flowers as a Downey staple for a flavorful dining experience. My family and I have been dedicated patrons of this fine establishment for decades. If you haven’t ate here, you are surely missing out, give it a try sooner rather than later as we need your support with the recent closure of the Bellflower location. There is so much selection on the menu to have a bbq paradise of your dreams. An underrated hack is to use their hawaiian sauce on your ribs instead of their original but both are great options. The meat always falls off the bone and their ribs are covered in sauce. Their salads are always fresh and they have the best dressing. My favorite is the blue cheese, it is unlike any other dressing on the planet. Rich and flavorful, always Chunky with a capital C. I am a little weird and enjoy mixing the bbq sauce with the blue cheese, to create a special sauce. There is so many hacks you can do here when you really think about it. Their specials are very affordable, without missing any of the flavor. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. A hit among Chris & Pitt fans is the blooming onion, and for good reason too, it’s definitely an onion ring fanatic’s special Haven. The dip they serve with those onion rings is warm and delicious. I argue that Chris & Pitts is one of the best local restauraunts in all of LA county. With every good thing, there are downsides as well that I, and other customers, have noticed. The biggest downside is the service, there are some star employees, but there are some which just aren’t the happiest. This doesn’t affect the food but it does affect the experience sadly. And I do think over the years the food has lost some of its’ original charm. If there is anyway to contact some of the older cooks, even some from the bellflower location, maybe they can teach the newer cooks some of their special magic they used while cooking. I believe it should be passed down in the business. I think if everyone keeps up a great attitude with this business, along with the local community keeping it alive, Chris & Pitts can continue to fluorish and be a light and not some hole in the wall business but a place where families are truly welcome to be unapologetically themselves as they smack down these messy, saucy delicious ribs with their fresh sides of their choosing. “This was my first time at famous Dave's, I took advantage of a Birthday offering and was better than expected. The food was good ribs were excellent, the side of coleslaw I did not care for it seemed as though it might have been spoiled or just an odd taste, butt the spicy mac and cheese was excellent never had it like that before. Christine was an excellent waitress and I was satisfied with the outcome. I definitely would come back !“

“Highly commendable service and absolutely stunning set menu! we went here for dinner last night for our Halloween date night! Their wagyu cuts are 100% top-grade and not just random "wagyu" that are below the marks. We tried their A5 and M9 meats, not to mention their salmon carpaccio that is to die for. Their sides are absolutely delicious and smart, one great example is their fried pork buns that is like a spin on soup dumplings. To top it off, you get premium ice cream in the end. Their salad is so good with yuzu and smokey salt, plus you get a chili mix too. They serve the meats fast plus your tablet menu is in front of you so you don't have to keep calling the staff to refill. I give them 9 stars! 🌟 🐄 🥩“

“It was a very good experience including the flavor of the food. The service here is immaculate and very caring. The meat melts in your mouth, as well as the other dishes. I would completely recommend you to come here. They have good deals and they will make you leave satisfied.“

“The food is freakin delicious. I came in and got the bbq burrito, definitely on the unique spectrum of flavors. Almost $40 for a burrito is quite expensive; otherwise I would have it more often!! But the brisket is otherworldly. In my opinion best BBQ in LA. 🔥“

“Been meaning to hit this place, but always pass them up. Glad I stopped by, they got some good eats here. Tried the Vamipro with bistec and potato. Nice and crispy hand made tortilla. Potatos were healthy cut pieces and soft. Also had the Guisado sampler and man they are not shy with the servings. I definitely recommend the sampler plate if you are wanting to try the different options of guisados. For this location early is better as they do sell out of items on the early side. They also have restaurant where you can get there goods as well.“

“My favorite Korean barbecue in Los Angeles. All the side dishes are fantastic and there is so much variety you can tell they really thought it through! The meat quality is also fantastic. Their marinated galbi is my favorite beef in the world. If all of that is not enough, it is also the only Korean barbecue place that cares enough about the customers that they have a ventilated stove so you don’t smell like Korean barbecue walking out of this restaurant it’s amazing.“

“I was visiting the area and decided to check out the LBX Hangar. I was in the mood for something different and saw Marinate. I was told the bulgogi burrito is popular, so I tried it. And it was the best burrito I have ever had ... ever. The meat was so tender and flavorful. I love that it had vegetables so I could pretend it was healthy. I don't live in the area but every time I am in Long Beach, I plan to stop by.“

“Came here for dinner time during Christmas week with my family. We were a group of 10 and we came right at peak dinner time, which honestly sounds like a terrible idea but thankfully they were able to sit us within 40 minutes. We were sat at two tables and had a burner each. The service was great, especially with how busy they were that night. The KBBQ was super yummy and I especially loved the steamed egg, I ordered two total. The house salad was so so good- I wish someone would tell me the recipe (pls) because I ate the whole bowl. The meat came out at a decent time and I enjoyed sides. They also offered buldak ramen, which my younger cousins enjoyed- so I’m sure other parents or family members may wonder what else kids may enjoy here. I will definitely be back!“

“I got the tasajo which was already good but omg the moronga was DELICIOUS. I am usually not a fan of blood sausages or blood related food but this was so smooth, tender, savory and flavorful. If I didn’t already know it was a blood sausage I would have never guessed. The serving is huge if you eat standard servings you could easily split a portion but we got greedy.

Highly recommended just for the fact that they changed my mind about blood sausage.

“This is a delicious Chinese restaurant! Staff were really friendly and helpful. Parking is very limited because it is on a tiny lot but I came early so parking wasn't an issue. It appears there is free street parking. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. I had the Cheung fun with peanuts, Cheung fun with egg, shrimp fried rice, this green dessert, and tofu wrapped around rice roll. Everything was delicious. Cheung fun and tofu wrapped around rice roll were my favorite. The Cheung fun was thin and the sauce was so delicious! The tofu was crispy and it had some garlic inside and it was so delicious. The waitress brought out an extra sauce for my Cheung fun without me asking. They were very attentive. Restaurant was also really clean. I live in Thousand Oaks but needed to come into this area for business and decided to give this place a try. Well worth it and I will be back again next time I am in town. I also purchased another Cheung fun with peanuts to go and my daughters loved it and they are picky eaters.“

“The food is well seasoned, but the skewers are cold on our table. We are disappointed, because the barbecue it’s hot taste is different. After that, my husband and I ordered two skewers of Australian mutton kebabs. These two skewers were hot when they were comed. Was it because of the cheap price that we ate cold skewers?“

“I randomly stopped here last night, I never noticed place. Thank God, I got a house tea, (bomb)that already set up good vibes for my food. Chicken Chow Mein, and shrimp Fred rice.both good but chow mein was delicious tasted fresh flavorful I really enjoyed it my lil ones loved it. “Just came by for a leisurely Labor Day early lunch and Manny did not disappoint. We ordered two #3 combos, so 6 meats and 8 sides for 4 people. We had the brisket, tri-tip, beef ribs, baby back ribs, pulled pork, and the chicken. For the sides, we had 3 smoked beans, potato salad, 2 cole slaw, and 2 mac salads. It was nothing short of a feast! The meats were well-smoked, flavorful, juicy, and Manny was as kind as he was generous and attentive. He threw in 4 free sodas, free bread, a free side (we went with an extra cole slaw), and threw on a free kielbasa as well! We couldn't finish everything and the food we took home would easily make for an extra meal for all of us. We drove all most an hour, in the rain, from Torrance; this was not our first dining experience here, and it was just this kind of generosity and service that we experienced the first time that brought us back and will continue bringing us back as long as he stays in business.

“This place has undergone numerous name changes in the last 40 years that I’ve been eating here. However, the food has reminded the same. Delicious 😋!!!! We stopped by for lunch on December 9th and ordered numerous dishes. We ordered shrimp fried rice $18, sweet and sour chicken $19, chicken chow mein Hong Kong style (crispy noodles) $18, and the seafood tofu hot pot $21 , plus the must have hot tea.

Definitely a must try if ever near Alpine and Broadway in Chinatown Los Angeles.“

“Inside the Whittier Brewing Company, it's a small food hall with individual vendors. You order at a counter. Hours vary by day until they sell out. Go early as brisket & sausages sell out quickly, especially with World Cup watch parties held in hall.

“The place is small and a little old, but it’s pretty well known around OC for Korean BBQ ribs. The prices are a little high, but the food is really good. Both the beef short ribs and pork ribs have great flavor without being too heavy, and you can really taste the meat. The side dishes are simple but good, and I especially liked the seasoned minari. It goes really well with the meat. Not a fancy place, but I’d definitely come back for the ribs.“
