“Best seafood and Japanese food I've ever had in my life — not exaggerating. The freshest seafood you'll ever taste. I brought multiple people here and they agree I'm not exaggerating. The quality is unlike anything else in LA. Everything is incredible but the raw seafood gets the most special shoutout.“

“I absolutely love this restaurant—it feels like I’ve stepped straight into Japan.** It’s cute and quaint, and while the parking lot is small, I’ve always been able to find a spot (plus there’s extra parking in the adjacent lot). You really get the best of all worlds here.
We had nigiri sushi that was incredibly fresh—**especially the toro**, which they only have in limited quantities each day. If it’s available, don’t hesitate! The oysters are **to die for**—they’re on the larger side but super fresh with a buttery finish.
We also had beef tongue, fried chicken, tamago, and a few meat skewers—all fantastic. I’m a big fan of their **rich pork broth** too. Most of the staff are Japanese, which makes the experience feel even more authentic and welcoming.
They also have a great sake selection, and if you don’t finish your bottle, you can take it home. Everything is clean, and the presentation is on point. Perfect spot for **lunch, dinner, or a cozy date night!“

“Izakaya Mi Young (美荣) in Ktown is a hidden gem tucked away in a basement — perfect for a late-night drink. It’s relatively under-the-radar; you’ll need to walk down a stairwell to find it, giving it that “hidden in plain sight” charm. But the food and drinks? Truly impressive.
The decor has an atmospheric Tokyo vibe — exactly how I imagine an izakaya next to a subway exit in Japan. Each table has a ukiyo-e curtain for privacy, but sitting at the bar also has its own cozy appeal.
The menu covers everything from yakitori and sushi to traditional Japanese street snacks and sashimi. I especially loved their highballs — the yuzu and Earl Grey flavors stood out. We ordered several pieces of the chef’s special sushi, all incredibly fresh. The uni-scallop sushi was heavenly. The yakitori, cheesy eel, okonomiyaki, and agedashi tofu were all perfect drinking snacks, but our top favorite of the night was the butter-grilled abalone — so good we wanted an encore!
After just one visit, I already can’t wait to go back. It’s officially my new Ktown treasure. Bonus: they have parking validation, the prices are reasonable, and it’s just the perfect place for a slightly tipsy, blissful night.“

“Dinner for 2 persons, shared appetizer and 2 combo plates, green tea, 100$.
Ueno could be a great restaurant because the food is of quality. The combo dinner plates were copious. Unfortunately, they were served with large portions of jasmine rice instead of quality Japanese rice like Koishikari.
But the worse part is the place itself. Country music? Puking. Kindergarten decor? Horrible. Lighting: bad. TV with sports? Why?
Greeting was non existant. One chef looked at us from the kitchen but simply ignored us after just a glimpse. Is this a private club? A waiter entered the dining area but did not notice us, we had to make some sound and gesture.
The place was around 30% occupied, quite underwhelming
This place has all the potential of attracting a nice clientele because the food quality is there. Make it seriously Japanese !
Cover the windows (who wants to see traffic?), remove the preschool decor, dim the lights, remove the TV, add a sushi counter, and mainly, train the personnel. Being ignored at the door when only 4 tables are occupied is strange.
No reservation needed, place is empty! By 20:00 parking was full, with quite non existing street parking. Not good.“

“Great spot tucked into a tiny strip center area. Plenty of seating, including sushi bar seating. My orders of maguro nigiri and yellowtail nigiri were very fresh. The spicier tuna roll was delicious as well. Complimented by attentive service and a laid back atmosphere, this made for a perfect spot. 👏“

“Hidden gem. Noticeably high quality ingredients and great service. Even my Korean mom, who is germaphobic and difficult to impress, enjoyed her meal very much. Will be coming here again.
We ordered the oyster/uni (!), the baked scallop roll (!), the chirashi bowl, the sea cucumber, and the spicy japan scallop roll. Everything tasted fantastic and we didn't leave a single grain of rice.
In my opinion, it's rare to encounter Japanese food in America that I end up loving. Every raw ingredient looked and tasted fresh. Uni here was creamy, the green tea was well-steeped, and the sesame seeds on the spicy japan roll were aromatic.
I highly recommend that you come here for a special occasion or whenever you crave extremely FRESH Japanese food.“
“my boyfriend and I made a reservation the day of at 10:15 and there was no wait when we arrived. ambience was lively. host and staff were so friendly and welcoming. we ordered a total of 6 dishes because they are small portions: mixed rice with duck, squid plate, duck meatball, broccolini, pork gyoza, house ramen (total came out to ~100$)
everything was so amazing (especially the squid) and as someone who doesn't eat much, I could've honestly kept eating forever.“

“It feels like it’s gotten more expensive over time, but I’ve been coming here for 20 years. It’s one of my all-time favorite restaurants, and I’d be genuinely sad if it ever closed. The staff are always very friendly. While it may not feel particularly modern or spotless, it offers a comforting, homey atmosphere. The food is also consistently delicious.“

“The best soba in LA, hands down. Getting directly to the point, we tried the Scallop Shiso Maze Soba and the Kamo Negi Soba. They were completely different but equally superbly delicious. The latter was a very classical soba with rich duck broth done just right vs the former was a brilliant innovation - a refreshing pesto-like broth infused with shiso together with scallops and mushrooms full of umami.
The appetizers - Dashi Simmered Pumpkin and Chicken Kaarage - were excellent as well. Plus very friendly and polite staff. Will come back!“

“While the ramen is quite good, try their other non-ramen offerings. Katsu curry rice is very good here (katsu pork was prepared perfectly and curry flavorful) as well as their gyudon (beef over rice). Service as fast, friendly and attentive and the dining area was very clean. Value for the meal is excellent especially for West LA! Cannot recommend enough!“

“The service is on point and the food selection is perfect for a variety of hunger levels. From nigiri to udon (curry udon has stellar flavor for vegetarian or non-fish-lover friends), I haven't found a single thing to complain about. I visit LAX every few months and look forward to the next dish I get to try out next.
Vegetarian options: Curry Udon was delicious.“
