“This place is great!
We got a 3 leches cake and was delicious. And they decorated very nicely too (for a baby shower) I did added the baby bear though (to make it look extra.) but all my guests had doubles and told me how delicious the cake was. I would really recommend them.
They were clear about any extra charges etc. so nice they told me about it before agreeing to anything.
One thing I didn’t like was that I had previously gotten a cake from them and the price has gone up (from 2 months apart.) and when I asked why they didn’t answer my question!
I understand prices for everything is going up, so it makes sense. But it would be nice to know in advance they’ll increase prices.“

“I went to the bakery today, because I wanted pupusas. Xinia's Bakery popped up as the best in town, I've never had Salvadorian food before it was delicious I had beer cheese and pork pupusas, I ordered a tamale and I had a puff pastry dessert and she shared with me the tres leche cake I've never had it and it was Simply Delicious. I only had the pupusas out of the variety of foods on the menu and they were delicious I will be a return customer. Maybe not too often for fear of gaining too much weight???“

“Interesting variety of bread (they offer slicing service), delicious array of pastries and cakes.
What I go for annually is their panettone. The make their own and it varieties slightly from year to year with what’s available. One year they had Buddha’s hand citrus included in it. It is pricey but for the quality and once a year splurge.“

“Amazing food and vibes. The plumb crumb cookie is my new favorite cookie in the bay! It’s like a tiny fruit tart—I think the base is a short bread cookie, and it has a chewy crumble + fresh fruit on top. The other shortbready cookie with jam was also very good.
The two other things I tried were the nectarine chiffon cake and the plum tart. The cake was light and not too sweet, and had just the right amount of cream. The plum tart was also very tasty.
Besides the food, the aesthetics of the place are beautiful and unique. Just look at the picture of the menu!
Overall one of my favorite bakeries in the bay, highly recommend!“

“This is a great bakery. Always long lines and has parking in the back as the parking lot is quite small.
Our favorites are the mushroom pizza slices, which we warm up with our own added items, the Apple Slice and baguettes.
You will definitely not be disappointed with anything you get here.
Parking: Additional parking at the back.“

“Look no further for the best bakery - We needed a perfect cake for my son's celebration of life and we were so pleased with the masterpiece that was created. It was movie star quality and the design work was top notch. My son loved sunflowers and succulents and Pam created the most perfect design. My daughter sat down with her and explained detail by detail. You could see all the love in her design. And the taste of this carrot cake was the best I have ever had and I have had a lot. Thank you Pam & Gayle for the best cake for my son Michael's celebration of life 🙏“

“Oh my heart - how did I not know about this bakery before 🌟 it’s probably a good thing that I no longer live a couple of blocks from it otherwise I’d have to size up my entire wardrobe. Tried the cheesecake, salted egg yolk cookie, almond meringue and the amazing egg tarts … everything was delicious with a dash of the kind of pixie dust that comes from love, talent and artisanal care 💖“

“When I went they had two vegan options, a blueberry glaze donut and a plain donut. I went for blueberry, and it was so much better than I expected! I generally prefer a lighter donut and thin glaze. This one was denser with a thicker glaze, but was objectively really great! Would recommend! Updated from previous review on 2025-02-28“

“The very long line of happily waiting customers was the first clue that this place was going to be something special. Then we had the delicious bagel, later we had the yummy vanilla strawberry birthday cake. But the next day we popped the buttermilk biscuits into the oven to warm and WOW... BEST BISCUITS EVER! EVER! We still have a baguette and sandwich rolls waiting, but THANK YOU for making a safe and absolutely delicious place for my celiac daughter to enjoy. ( and me too)“

“Cozy authentic bakery tucked in a corner of the building. The owner was extremely enthusiastic and really took time to explain the pastries. I got a Meyer lemon danish that was really good- the filling was a bit cream cheese and lemony and it was not too sweet at all! It balanced perfectly with the flakey buttery pastry. Will definitely come again, loved the service!!“
“Friendly local chef cooking up soulful cafe classics from the Hyatt parking lot. My kid loves eating a delicious beignet while watching the trains roll by across the way. Look for the colorful graffiti food truck and say hi to Jacob when you go!“

“They're open Wednesday-Saturday from 11:30am-3pm. I want to get that good at something where I can have those hours. Whenever I see a place that never closes, it just sounds desperate. Like a Jack in the Box that is always open is so sad. Maybe Jack in the Box doesn't feel confident enough in their food to only be open from 11:30am-3pm on Wednesday-Saturday. They'd probably lose majority of their business. I've only been to Jack in the Box past midnight and I've always regretted going. I'm convinced Jack in the Box is successful through the mistakes and personal misjudgments of people. Anyway, the ginger cake was absolutely delicious here and it was even better knowing I could only get it for a limited time.“

“This is a beautiful store outside and inside. After stalking this restaurant on Instagram and after I missed pop-up events for Oktoberfest, I finally bought some pretzels. Yummy! It was well worth the wait. I scored some of the weekly specials, the pesto and mozzarella pretzel. I also bought the jalapeño and cheddar. I will never buy one of those pretzels off the street carts ever again. I used to buy Auntie Annie’s soft pretzels at the mall, but never again. I am officially a pretzel snob now. I am making plans to go back to Squabisch for the pretzel sandwiches. The fresh quality ingredients are evident in every bite.“

“You can find any cheese you want here. While cheese gave the place it's name, most people come here for the awesome baked goods or the phenomenal pizza. You can get the pizza half-baked and finish it off in your home's pizza oven. If you are in Berkeley, it's a must-go kind of place.“

“Semifreddi's is a name well-known in the Bay area. Their main bakery is in Alameda, and this is their outlet for fresh baked goods. My favorite bread in the world, the Kalamata Olive, can be had here along with fresh baked breakfast goods and other breads.“

“A new contender for the best kalamata olive bread (4/5 Green Stars). It’s Day 3 of Shelterfest, sponsored by Coronavirus, and I was feeling kinda satisfied (i.e., less guilty than yesterday) after making an earnest attempt to work remotely. So I took myself off for an afternoon stroll and, landing in the vicinity of College and Alcatraz Ave, decided to pick up some bread if there was any to be had. La Farine was quiet and there was plenty of bread left, even at 4 pm. (So pop in to support them if you’re in the area!) I usually get their rustic baguette but this time bought a loaf of olive bread. The servers were super friendly and one asked me if I wanted some free pastries. Ya-ha I did! I scuttled home with my bag of goodies and heated up one of the freebies – a chocolate croissant (toaster oven, bake for 3-5 min). The croissant doesn’t look that amazing, I have to admit, but it tasted wonderful. Buttery, flakey pastry and just the right amount of good quality chocolate. Later I had the bread – I’m a big fan of Semifreddi’s Kalamata olive bread so the bar was pretty high. I have to say that it was up there with my favorite bread – it was a little fuller than the Semifreddi’s loaf, but that wasn’t a bad thing as I sometimes feel that I’m eating a lot of air with the latter. In summary, I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed La Farine before because I’ve gone there many a time. I recommend the three things mentioned above and also their Irish soda bread is really good and pretty authentic. I just found out that La Farine started out in this location in 1977 – almost as old as I am, said Bilbo. I'm also giving La Farine 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • It seems that they use conventional white flour and organic whole wheat flour. • Their website is lacking on information on ingredient sourcing (compared to, say Acme). I’d like to know more about their flour, eggs, butter, chocolate, etc. • La Farine donates leftover products to area food banks and senior centers • They also support Bay Area schools and other local causes • Their bags are made from post-consumer recycled paper and printed with water-based inks. • Most of the menu is vegetarian and some of the breads are vegan. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me!“

“I just love this local Berkeley gem. Friendly, warm vibe where everyone is welcome. You can tell a lot of thought and care went into the place. The coffee is THE BEST, the pastries are amazing. From the coffee made with care and the super nice baristas to the comfy/welcoming/inclusive atmosphere, Bench Café has it all. My go to breakfast items are the Spinach Feta Empanadas and the Date Latte. P.S. the music adds a nice touch to the place.“

“Amazing service from a place that actually cares about its workers and the food is delicious …got my coworkers hooked on their pastries and empanadas hehe …good veggie options … a very good assortment of teas… this place is a little hidden being back off the street, but it’s well worth the hunt and once you’ve found it you’ll be glad you did there’s a little private sitting area in front of the shop that’s surprisingly quiet for the area a perfect stop for lunch“

“Delicious selection of cakes and breads that made it tough going selecting just a few. In the end we settled on the lemon meringue tart, apple crumble slice and a baked cheesecake. All were delicious. We also grabbed a cold sausage roll for heating later on and it was a monster. I have reviewed Almost French Bakery before but it’s missing off Zomato.“

“I’ve been buying Eduardo Morell’s bread at the Berkeley farmers market for roughly a decade and still can’t make it back to my car without ripping hunks off to devour on the spot. If you want to know what truly traditional San Francisco sourdough tasted like when individual artisans developed the craft before of the modern food industrial complex co-opted it, make the pilgrimage to Morell’s bakery or to the farmers market or just pick up a loaf at Monterey Market. My favorite is the loaf that uses local, whole-grain wheat.“

“We were on our way to Third Culture for a sweet treat and saw this little pop-up out front. Large array of cookies and muffins and scones with vegan and gluten-conscious options. Was able to get a vegan option for my child who can’t have dairy or egg products. Also got a little chocolate cookie for my other little one and it was delicious, crisp cookie, ganache type filling, and not too sweet.“
