“This review is overdue. We got married at Auberge in Rutherford in the autumn some years ago. Jill made us a BEAUTIFUL 3 tier cake with the grapes on the vine and fall leaves colors design.Besides design, our cake was delicious. We had two flavors: a berry filling with vanilla cream and a lighter lemon filling with hazelnut cream. Those who didn't eat sweets had 2 slices and then some. From meeting Jill to talking about design to day off delivery, everything went off smoothly. Highly recommend Branching Out for all cake occasions, not just for weddings.“
“We stopped in for a quick bite. The food is served cafeteria style, order at the counter, then the food is brought to your table.Crab was special on the menu, so we got the crab melt. It came with a choice of salad or a bag of kettle chips. That came out quickly, however we had to ask for our loaf of bread that we ordered at the same time.Outside seating is available.“
“I can't believe I've lived in San Francisco my entire life and hadn't had Liguria's focaccia until last month. I came in right before 9:00am on a Tuesday and was able to get three slabs of the pizza focaccia ($9 each), which is what my colleague who grew up in North Beach recommended, to bring to the office. It was easily one of the best focaccia I've ever had! No wonder they typically sell out well before they close for the day. I'll definitely be back to try the other kinds. Note: they're cash only.“
“As others have said, it really is good. I got the plain and almond croissants, both had great taste and texture. I don’t think it’s worth the $6 tag for each and the 30-40 min line that I normally see but if you are able to get it fast, I would say try it.“
“Hands down THE best croissant in San Francisco. But they have so much more than that. Pates, quiches, desserts - and they all look so Parisian. Walking in is an exercise in self control. But the good news is, if you do cave in, it’s worth it!“
“When we sat down outside, with the blue hour sun hanging low across the city, the tray of gluttony and sugars sat so perfectly on our tray. Then a group of Patagonia-clad men stumbled in saying “with OpenAI” and I was reminded that we’re in San Francisco. The crookie was good, albeit not crispy. While the coffee vanilla mousse looked amazing on the outside, it was a tad too sweet. However, the highlight for me was the Imperial; paired with an iced cold brew, the decadent layers filled with a crumbly bottom and a sweet white filling inside was my favourite.Pretty good!“
“This has become our go-to cake for our birthdays, and we love it! The chocolate imperial cake is our favorite and it is a chocoholics dream. I never share it with anyone because it so darn tasty! It is pricier than a lot of other cake places, but well worth the money for a special occasion.“
“An iconic dessert/cake that our family has been enjoying for many years. The flavor is amazing- I love toffee crumbles! One slice makes you want more but is enough for one person (considering the amount of sugar). We love to support this local small business in Japantown. FYI- cash only!“
“In a city filled with famous bakeries everywhere, B Patisserie lives up to its reputation. While it's not the "best bakery ever", it's quite good and nothing really disappoints. They have a good selection of baked goods one would expect from a patisserie, and everything was quite good. Tasty kouign amanns and flaky croissants, nothing to complain about. If you're looking for great baked goods without the crazy lines that some other places in the city have, B Patisserie is a great choice.“
“I only tasted the pain au chocolat and the choux and I was won over. The cabbages are super good, the taste is fine and sought after. The pain au chocolat is worth a French one. The place is pleasant and the staff welcoming. Only remark: the tea served in a small half-full mug, a little too light for my taste, even if I am used to European portions.“
“I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Krispy Kreme who? These donuts are beyond words of delicious and delightful. I drive from the East Bay usually late night when my husband and I are craving phenomenal donuts. The donuts are extremely fresh, the times I've been here there has been an older gentleman making them and racks of donuts ready to be bought. Yummmmmmm. Just incredible tasty donuts. You can tell the oil they get made in is also very fresh, no after taste of old oil. Donuts are not super greasy. The service is magnificent! The first time coming here the woman was extremely helpful and kind. The second time a young man helped us and he had a great personality and energy. He was telling us some of the stories of the donut place. Really enjoyed his service! The ambiance is an old school donut shop with closed off seating area but looks very vintage. Grab and go type of donut shop right on Polk St. RECOMMEND THIS PLACE 100% :)“
“Do you know how fortune cookies are made? This fun little visit will show you. A free sample and lots to choose from. I never knew there were different kinds of fortune cookies. And you can get flats ones, too. No fortune, but great with your coffee! They even have some fortunes in French.“
“A great bakery house with a wide variety of pastries. I got $12 curry chicken sandwich. The bread is on the hard/ chewy side like french baguette and the filling is flavorful. The other bakeries I got are also noteworthy like the morning glory bread, the tomato basil scone, and the crazy cookie. I would say the crazy cookie is the most satisfying to me. Would love to try more things next time I visit the neighborhood.“
“The cakes are very good. My favorites are their tiramisu and Black Forest cakes. This place has been around for a long time and has been one of my favorite bakeries of all time. I get all my birthday cakes from them. The service is good too. They are so helpful.“
“Belly is pretty lean with not much fat in terms of extras to entice. But what they serve, they do well. It has a young start up vibe with good precious offerings, a limited interesting menu for a bakery that also does lunch. It’s pretty much outdoor seating only sans the shade and expect a line. We are told by the counter staff it takes eight minutes to heat the savory mushroom pie or corn pastry with an egg inside. Everything was tasty.Personally I prefer muffins containing an egg to be soft boiled rather than hard, such as the morning muffin at Post Script on Jackson street which can’t compare to anything else. It was a fun place to try and I brought a couple of cookies home to try. The matcha latte was excellent, sweetened with brown sugar. I like that they use good ingredients on their spare cuisine. I do think they might expand the menu a tad.“
“Oh man the egg tarts here truly are the best which is why whenever the bakery is open, there's a line out the door. Literally a line out the door since you can't go inside. It's definitely a unique little shop so know what to expect. What to expect? A long line, pay cash and the owner cracks the door open and gives you your delicious egg tarts and takes your cash!“
“I was very excited to visit Jina on my trip, but I wish they had more interesting vegetarian friendly-options like the injeolmi croissant. The black sesame and matcha cream puffs are pretty classic, safe Asian flavors, and I was very confused by the sweet roti croissant. The lemon sesame wheel was pretty unique, but $10 is pushing it for a pastry IMO.Visited on a Friday morning an hour after opening and there was a small line that moved quickly. All the items were still in stock. Only 2 customers are allowed in the small shop at a time. They take cash and card.“
“Some of the best pastries I’ve had in my life — and I’ve had a lot! The chocolate croissant was so light and so flaky — unlike the too-heavy or -bready croissants you get most places. Chocolate chip cookies are the same deal — light, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, SO tasty.“
“I still give this place five stars for their gluten free baked goods and take home lasagna but overall four stars because their service still sucks most of the time. I went by here recently on a Sunday morning before a meeting to grab something hot to eat. I love their hot pockets. However, it was 9:30 am. A number of people around me and I started to form a line. Some people asked the staff questions about the pastries and they answered while putting stuff out. None of the staff thought to tell us that they didn't open until 10 am on Sundays. After about 5 minutes of being ignored, I saw the small sign for their hours. I pointed it out to others and we all left. That was a horrible experience as I was hungry and now didn't have time to get something else before my meeting. On Pi Day, I came by and was pleased they had a number of pies available in different sizes. I picked up a small Chocolate Pie that was low in sugar and a small Cherry Pie. They were the perfect size for the three of us though they could have fed more people. We didn't finish the pies ourselves. The Chocolate Pie was yummy and perfect for me but my husband said it wasn't sweet enough for him. We all loved the Cherry Pie! We went back recently and picked up their pizza dough. It came with two rounds. They were awesome!!! We put on our own toppings and popped them into the oven. They came out delicious. I love their food. I just wish the service was better.“
“Great selection for great prices, but not super differentiated from other Chinese bakeries I have been to. The pastries were high quality and the woman who helped me was super nice. I got an egg yolk custard tart, an egg white custard tart, and a pineapple bun. The egg custard tarts were good, though the crust was more like shortbread and not very flaky which I prefer. The egg white custard tarts were interesting, though I did not like them as much as the traditional egg yolk ones which I found to have a stronger flavor. The pineapple bun was good, but nothing special. I will likely be back to try some of their other items.“
“A sweet little shop in Marina! Popped in as we walked by and had to order something. Ambience: this place is modern, clean and very sweet. Service: the guy was very nice & polite. - Flan: one of the best I've ever had. Loved the texture and amount of sweetness. - Coffee: really good balanced coffee. We'll be back for more!“
“Best pork buns EVER. I was recommended to this place many years ago and the quality and taste is always perfection. They're always fresh and the service is always quick. I stopped in today for one last visit (I'm relocating out of state) and the buns were fresh, hot, and as delicious as ever. Highly recommend, 100/10.“
“We're from San Francisco and were getting married in the city, but decided to venture across the bridge after striking out on other vendors due to price, size limitations (270+ people), or general availability. We feel so lucky that we came across Krumbs based on the A+ experience, from tasting to delivery. One thing we truly hoped for was a true cake-tasting experience. In the post-COVID landscape, everything is "come buy cupcakes and let us know what you think." We went out to Krumbs and were so excited to be able to sit down and be treated to all of their cake, mousse, and frosting flavors, and even though we had only inquired about one flavor, we left with two. They were also super-flexible when it came to design and weighed in with their own opinions after learning about the wedding vibe, cake topper, etc. Their pricing was affordable but the experience felt premium in every way, from the tasting to delivery and putting the finishing touches at the venue. We were able to hand them off to our venue coordinator and they managed everything from there. We also had them do our sheet cake for the rest of the guests so everyone could have the same experience. We like them so much we went back to buy a birthday cake for my mother-in-law a few weeks later. SF is great but I feel like we found a gem in Krumb's and would recommend them to anyone.“
“My sweet tooth has led me to visit many bakeries all over, so when I moved here, finding my go to bakery was top of my list. This place is the real deal. Proper cream cheese frosting (not too sweet with a pleasant tang) tops some of their most decadent goods. The pastries feel familiar, but are uniquely delicious. So far I've tried the guava danish, croissant, bread pudding, banana muffin, sweet potato pie and the cinnamon roll. Each item has been outstanding.“
“We made a brunch reservation to have the tea service, but were pulled away into the savory menu options. We started with the viennoiserie and moved into poached eggs, which were cooked to four minute perfection (our request). Everything we had was great, and the service and atmosphere were lovely.“
“If there is one positive thing came from the pandemic, it is Philippe Delarue’s ingenious idea to open up a bake shop here in front of his flat. It’s one of my favorite places to invite friends on Saturday or Sunday morning. You can’t go wrong with any of his goods, but my personal favorite is the bread pudding. Delarue will generously add his “adults only” whiskey sauce upon ordering. He is too humble to bring up the story himself, but ask him about his journey here – including stints in Le Mans, Paris, London, and Montreal. I can’t locate the article anymore but I think he once had the honor of baking for the queen! ☺️“
“While I was in San Francisco visiting for work I had the pleasure of visiting Flour & Branch for brunch. This is a cute bakery with great service and very tasty food. Michael helped me with a tea latte and a cookie to start followed by a brunch of eggs, brisket, avocado, potatoes, and toast. Everything was very good and the toast was particularly excellent. The croissant I got for later was crisp and buttery. Definitely stop by if you're in the area!“
“This place is a must when visiting San Fran. I do my research before going on a trip and this place was recommended by a few people. I know that you often hear more about the Golden Gate Bakery but there was a long line and I was not going to wait to try their egg tart. I'm glad I didn't sit in that line. We grabbed a few items to go and of course we tried their egg tart. It was warm and crispy. We also order some gelatin looking pastries, matcha cake, and sweet bread. Everything was great.“
“I am so glad I stumbled upon this little place. I've driven past San Rafael. I don't know how many times, and never knew about this bakery!! Granted, they mainly have bread, their pastries/croissants were delicious!! I do have a gluten allergy, so my stomach is sensitive to gluten, but every once in a while, I cheat. Lol I was able to buy their extra sourdough 6 inch loaves and split them with my coworkers. I also got six different pastries for my coworkers, and they told me that they loved the strawberry croissant, blueberry croissant, cinnamon twist, cheese, croissant, and chocolate croissant! Everybody said how flaky the crust was, and how soft and gooey the middle of the croissant was! As I walked in, there was a nice lady that worked behind the cashier desk, and she had a really pretty eye make up on! I've never been able to do my make up, so I always noticed it. Lol she was very sweet and helpful but I asked what the difference was between The traditional sourdough and "extra sour sourdough, "and she said she only knew that the extra sourdough had to sit over a night and the other bread they could make the same day. I'm pretty sure that has something to do with the yeast since I bake, but I always kill yeast, so I'm better with baking soda and baking powder. Lol I digress, and it smelled delicious in there. A small little storefront, but a huge inventory of bread in the back! Quite literally forklifts were moving bread Around and delivering orders! Lol I will definitely be back again!!“
“Τoscano Brothers has probably surpassed Daily Driver as the best bagel bakers in San Francisco. All their bagels are boiled but Tony Gemigniani puts his own Italian twist to the recipe and the result is an eye-opening, fresh and very chewy bagel with perfect texture. All their pastries and sandwiches are what you would expect: elevated and decadent. Kudos to their Detroit style pizza; perfectly made with a nutty, cheesy artisan crust topped with high-end mozzarella. This pie is better than anything I've had in Detroit that's for sure.Love this place, A+++“
“If you've dined at any popular restaurant in the Bay Area that served bread, you've likely had Acme Bread before. This store, located inside the Ferry Building Marketplace, is one of two(?) retail fronts since they are primarily a wholesaler. Even though I've seen walls of Acme Bread offered at local supermarkets, the selection offered at this store can't be beaten. They're selling breads and pastries I haven't even heard of. There is often a line during peak hours but the service is speedy and friendly. It's a great place to grab a snack to meander along the waterfront with. Just don't get too close to the seagulls if you're heading north to Pier 39. Despite their excellent reputation, everything here is priced reasonably and I always feel like I'm getting a deal here. I'm happy I get to try a variety of their goods through TGTG because I would not have otherwise purchased them. There is no seating provided by the store but there is publicly available seating inside and surrounding the Ferry Building. It might be hard to nab a spot if its already crowded that day, but bread and pastries are great walking food too!“
“This has been my go to spot for dim sum on clement for years. Finally writing a review today to note they put back tables in chairs for indoor dining!!! I don't live in the Richmond so it's nice to be able to sit down and eat after ordering.“
“A friend suggested we try Stella while we were visiting San Francisco and I'm so glad we did! We had breakfast there twice and then took a dessert to go and enjoyed it at some random seating area and people watched on another day. The raspberry chocolate cake was beyond amazing!“
“The smell of this bakery is everything a bakery should smell like. It smells like their almond torte that is super popular and looks amazing. I really wanted to get it, but I opted out for my favorite cannoli. The cannoli was delicious. I'm very selective when it comes to bakeries and this place has won a spot on my list of favorites. Can't wait to come back!“
“Fresh baked cookies with very unique cookie flavors (like funfetti & carrot cake). I did expect it to be cloying and super sweet, but it was nice. You could taste the ingredients and the ice cream was great without being "syrup-y". The staff was super friendly, but be warned that they do not always have all the flavors all the time. We waited for about 15 min because we wanted to try the funfetti cookie and some were just coming out of the oven. There were also a few ice cream flavors not in stock. You can take it on-the-go and walk around Fisherman's Wharf, or you can sit in a few picnic tables and chairs to eat it there. Worth a stop and better than the chain ice cream shops nearby.“
“This place is the best and I hope they never close! I grew up in the area but now live out of the country and my family has relocated to the east bay but I still make the 60 min drive all the way to Jelly Donut whenever I come to visit them. The owners are super friendly and generous, often throwing in an extra freebie too. We've tried 4 other donut shops in the east bay and none are even close to as good as these. Long live Jelly Donut!“
“We had the very best experience with baked blooms for our wedding tasting! Sarah was incredible! She reached out to help us with our tasting and set up cupcakes in our wedding colors. On top of everything, when we got stuck on the bridge and we’re late to pick up- they waited and made sure we got our cupcakes! The flavors and designs were perfect! Can’t wait to order for our wedding! They made our day!“
“I might be really biased about this place, but I think their food is great. It's a fairly unique product that fills a niche in the food market. They specialize in Australian style meat pies ( also a nice selection of veggies) wrapped in very nice pastry. They also have a selection of fruit pies, cookies and goodies of that nature. Many of these items can be gotten frozen or hot and hot items can be eaten on premises. They rotate through a selection of more than 20 different recipes of pies. The pies are single serving but quite filling unless you're a huge guy, then you might want two. They are in the old "Here Comes the Sun" location which has been heavily remodeled. You order at the front counter and get your food to go or have a seat if you want to eat there. They are super friendly folks. They also have great coffee - not to be missed. This part of the coast really needed a place like this. I hope they do great business.“
“I was excited to try this Ukrainian spot since I realized it’s the only Ukrainian restaurant in SF. And even though the interior and vibe of this place is very simple (I’d say it’s more like an eatery) the food is really good and authentic. Our party of 5 was interested in trying everything they have to offer and it seemed to be feasible because the menu is not large. The only option we skipped was pelmeny (as their origin isn’t really Ukrainian). So the summary is:- Borscht 5/5 Very rich taste, tender vegetables and good amount of meat- Cabbage rolls 5/5 My personal favorite! Very juicy, good quality of meat in the filling and well cooked cabbage leaves- Vareniky (dumplings) 5/5 We got vegetarian versions (potato and potato with cheese) and love them. Delicate dough, well balanced filling.- Hand roll with mushrooms 5/5 Lots of filling, good thin crust- Beets salad 5/5 Fresh and zesty!- Syrniky (cheese pancakes) 5/5 Delicate and fluffy. Raspberry jam matched perfectly for them.- Honey cake 5/5 Moist and creamy. With the honey taste in layers.- Kompot 5/5 Bright fruits flavor, not too sweet- Beer good but nothing specialDefinitely recommend this place for the quick intro to traditional Ukrainian food.“
“fancy wheat field bakery is a self-serve chinese bakery at the edge of chinatown and north beach. they sell a variety of sweet and savory pastries, mooncakes etc. grab a tray and fill it with what you would like, pay at the counter. cash is recommended to avoid a card fee.i've been a couple of times now and have had the red bean bun, sponge honey cake, and pineapple bun. reasonable prices.my favorite is the pineapple bun. under $2, it is sweet and soft but with a crunchy exterior top. i like how fancy wheat field's is a tiny bit salty as it really brings out the sweetness. i've tried a couple of pineapple buns throughout chinatown and SF, and fancy wheat field has my favorite plain one so far.my only wish is that it could be served warm or they at least warm it up after you purchase it, because the baked items have been sitting on the shelf all day.“
“Absolutely a delight to have breakfast here. We were trying to find a French bakery in the area and we were pleasantly surprised to find this one. The pastries they had on offer presented a great selection as well as tasting amazing. We had asked for a mocha and were fully expecting to receive a paper coffee cup in a lid, we were excited to see that they had a large coffee cup brought out directly from the barista to our table. They are a little bit expensive but it is very much worth it in terms of flavor and quality. The atmosphere in the building is very nice, and they have pleasant music that fits the theme of the bakery itself. My wife is from France and she was very happy to find this place.“
“Made fresh and always delicious. It's a perfect sweet treat. I walked into store with the employee filling a massive box being filled for charity. It makes me feel so good supporting a store that doesn't waste food. The space inside is welcoming with tables to sit and snack. Service is kind and patient. Again, Bob's donuts is a must for a small or big treat.“
“A homey, neighbor cafe located on the more quieter side of Clement street. Although their menu is fairly simple and typical to what you'd normally see in a cafe, I always come here for their Vietnamese coffee and sandwiches which are my number one recommendations here. The couple working here are one of the sweetest people and it's always a delight to see them do their craft. Would highly recommend this place if you're ever in the area.“
“Portside Bakery is phenomenal. During the pandemic, this family run business would deliver their amazing loaves to keep their community smiling and fed. These days, they are still a staple in my favorite food rotations and I literally DREAM of their pastries. This is one of my favorites, but you also MUST try the one with mushroom and the one with salmon. They are unreal. Whatever you do, do not miss out on this good spot run by great people.“
“Stumbled upon this bake shop. Tried the Hazelnut Ring... omg!! It's SO yummy!! If you love nuts, especially hazelnuts, this is a must try! They're so generous with the nuts too. This can easily sell for double the price at Tartine. THANK YOU for keeping this at a reasonable price! Will definitely be coming back!“
“Really cute and healthy smoothie shop in a nice shopping center. I ordered a Maca My Day, which I thought was pretty bad, and so they gave me a free replacement of another drink. Very respectable. Wasn’t a big fan of the other smoothie either…But on the bright side, they have fresh delicious vegetarian wraps!“
“An interesting place. The location just jumps out at you from out of nowhere. One I got inside, I was greeted by a very pleasant associate who ran me through everything being it was my first time there. Many flavors and sizes of cakes to choose from and the price for the seconds (cake that have blemishes and can't be sold at full price) is outstanding.I bought a mocha cheese cake that was very dense while it was a little frozen. After letting it thaw for a half hour the cake was fluffy and delicious!I am looking forward to going back to try more flavors.“
“Great coffee and decaf drinks. Calm and friendly atmosphere for solo sitting and conversation. Croissant waffles covered in decadent toppings. Small-dog coded but big dog friendly. Homemade dog treats.Very grateful to have this spot in the neighborhood.“
“My favorite bakery for pastries in the Bay. And I feel like I've been to a good swath of bakeries and pop-ups in the Bay. (See my Favorite Bay Area Bakery list if you're curious for a list of bakeries and pop-ups that I love or liked and that I don't think are overrated b/c of tiktok/insta.When it comes to technique + asian/fusion flavors that actually come through in the right balance, Grand Opening can't be beat. We're so lucky to have so many fantastic bakers in the Bay Area, and I've had so many delightful pastries, so I was blown out of the water when I first tried Grand Opening. If you are a pastry that likes interesting flavors, and things to not be too sweet, you definitely have to give Grand Opening a try. Some of the way I gauge a perfect pastry is flavor of the pastry dough, is it greasy?, lamination, how the layers stand up to the ingredients, does it highlight the ingredients included? Are the flavors balanced? Does the pastry work as a whole. In all of these areas Grand Opening comes out on top. The flavors are where Grand Opening wins, many times when I'm having pastries, I want the unique flavors black sesame, ube, fruits, matcha, to be stronger or better balanced, I often find that's not the case. Grand opening knocks this element out of the park. They now do pop-ups on Saturdays and Sundays out of Mister Jiu's. Check their instagram for menu + hours.I think their blood orange wife cake is one of my top favorite pastries that I'v ever tried!“
“Picked up a cake for my husband's birthday and we were both awesomely surprised. A friend had told me about this place and I was a little hesitant for some reason I'm not sure why, but if you're in the mood for some good cake, be sure to check it out.“
