“I’ve been coming to Kenbey every week for the past couple months and it genuinely hasn’t missed once. The fish is the freshest I’ve had in the States since eating sushi in Japan, and I don’t say that casually.
I always get the tuna and salmon specials because I truly can’t resist — the seared toro and the salmon with the yuzu truffle are the best bites of sushi I’ve ever had. Every single time.
For my birthday I did the Omakase solo and sat at the bar, and watching the chef work was a work of art. Their classic miso soup was already my favorite, and then the crab miso came with the Omakase and I genuinely don’t know how I’m ever not going to order that now. The ice cream finished it off perfectly — denser than what you’re used to, almost mochi-like. The chef talked me into it and I’m so glad he did.
The staff is warm and attentive in a way that actually feels natural, not performative.
Kenbey is such an underrated hidden gem and I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about it. It’s my new neighborhood spot.“

“Wa is a lovely restaurant with excellent service and delicious sushi. My girlfriend and I come here pretty regularly and are always treated wonderfully by Hara, whose got an amazing memory. We come for date nights , work lunches, birthdays and especially when it’s raining and you need some udon. Reasonably priced, quaint ambience and now that the in n out fixed their parking, it’s easier to get to.“

“My go to sushi spot for a couple years now. I absolutely love the vibes, the food, and the prices. DoorDash runs deals for delivery from here all the time too if you’re looking for a chill night in. The staff is all friendly and the place itself feels welcoming. Truly a hidden gem for the locals. Gonna include some favs of people I’ve taken here: ultimate salmon roll, crispy rice spicy tuna (they don’t add mayo which I love), yellowtail kama, veggie gyoza“

“A great little spot. Excellent food, attentive staff, and an easy to like ambiance. Walk-in like Han Solo and you'll get a front row seat at the bar where the chefs hone their craft. For everyone else, reservations are probably best. It's also a great place to take a date as a lot of the dishes are meant to be shared. Try the Yuzu Ceviche and you won't be disappointed.“

“Really wonderful place I stumbled upon, I enjoyed their happy hour specials, great customer service and delicious food. I had a good experience here and the food was amazing and there were so many different options of everything to choose from. Thank you for a great evening and first day in Pasadena.“

“The atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was delicious. However, the service was disappointing. Our server was condescending and repeatedly interrupted our moment by crossing between us without a word. When I asked about drinks, she was short and even gave inaccurate descriptions. This is my second visit, and both times with the same server have left a sour taste. I hope the service improves because the food deserves better! This is my second visit, and both times with the same brunette server, whose attitude left a sour taste.“

The quality and portion is fair for LA
However the kinds of fish they offer and presentation is not unique enough to limit ability of selecting menu
disappointment of getting fully cooked Seabass sushi and cooked well done beef sushi 🙄“

“Update after 2 years — still the best sushi I’ve had.
I wrote a long review a couple of years ago praising SUGARFISH as the best sushi I’d ever eaten. Just came back for a friend’s birthday and happy to report it’s still just as amazing the second time around.
We ordered the “Trust Me / Just Eat” set menu — absolutely delicious, perfectly prepared, and incredibly consistent with my first visit. Fresh fish, clean flavors, and that signature SUGARFISH quality that’s hard to beat.
Love seeing a place maintain such a high standard over time. Still a favorite.“

“I loved the omakase counter experience we had at Morihiro! We came in for a special night, and the food completely exceeded our expectations. I’ve been to several high-end omakase meals in both Japan and the US, and this is among the very best. The sushi is wonderful, of course, but my absolute favorite bite was the Toro Tartare. They even asked us exactly what types of beverages we liked and created a custom drink pairing just for us, and we were happy with every single glass. It was so much fun to watch the preparation, and the entire staff was incredibly sweet to us. Really a fantastic experience!“

“Seabutter, in the heart of Glendale lies this sushi restaurant that is a masterpiece. It is right next to Americana, sadly it has horrible parking but near places like Shake Shack, bourbon steak, In-n-Out, Capital One cafe, BJ’s brewhouse, and I’m quite sure a Starbucks as well Joe & The Juice literally next door.
Every sushi is fresh and tastes delicious, the atmosphere is like you’re a Roman patrician arriving at his Villa where his luxurious life is. It doesn’t look so fancy, but it feels comfy. There’s no trash nor dirt on the floor just clean and has a nice modern look.
The service here is very quick, the wait time is non-existent and the staff are very kind-hearted and quick with orders. When we come here, we are usually give On the house meals which is nice. There’s also a bar area and you can watch them make your sushi!
The food here is the spotlight in the show, it is the best sushi I have ate in my whole entire lifetime as well my whole bloodline. The sushi here is fresh delicious and it’s nice. I showed pictures of non-sushi items like Chicken Teriyaki, and Garlic Edamani, but most of the pictures are just sushi.
In the end, after coming here 50+ times I can agree this is the best sushi place I will ever touch on earth. If there was sushi in heaven, Seabutter will be there.
They also have another restaurant place called The Bar which I will review one day. But other from that, this place is a must-go and is very underrated and overlooked.
PS: before you go here, the parking is absolute garbage due to Americano and other popular places!
Peace✌️“

“Hands down my favorite place to splurge for dinner. Sitting at the bar for piece-by-piece omakase is always such a great experience. They buy what’s best from the market for that evenings service so I’ve seen them run out of stuff, but that means everything you’re eating is incredibly fresh. Adventurous eaters will be rewarded with the best seasonal delicacies. I’ve sat and eaten for 2 hours and not been served the same thing twice, unless I requested it. Easily some of the best sushi & sashimi outside of Japan.“

“This place lives up to the hype. Great staff & amazing food. I have seen alot of 5 star reviews for other sushi spots in the area, I would say this is the first that I think truly earned it. “I came to Ichijiku Sushi to capitalize on the DineLA deal, which - priced at $55 - included a beverage (Hazy IPA), miso soup, edamame, yellowtail & jalapeno sashimi (3), spicy tuna on crispy rice (2), 6 nigiri comprising of bluefin tuna, yellowtail, salmon, branzino with yuzu kosho, albacore with house ponzu, and bluefin chutoro, two hand rolls (I chose yellowtail habanero and salmon ground sesame seed), and green tea mochi ice cream to close out.
It was an amazing meal, with each course bringing serious value through well-sourced ingredients & fish. The ambiance is conducive for sushi devouring with excellent conversations. And at $55, this was amazing. They also have a competitive happy hour that runs from 2-5pm daily, and I definitely want to check that out soon. Also big shout-out to Emi! She's from Hyogo and was very kind :)“

Yum yum 🤤 ended with Kumamoto Oyster 🦪 it was so sweet like cotton candy in your mouth made me wanting more which I did order more. Lol 😂 The house hot Sake was good for a cold night paired so well with my amazing Sashimi! Great way to end my Friday night here! Thank you Chef!“

“One of the freshest—if not the best—sushi marketplaces in town! Yama Sushi Marketplace is a small shop that is always packed with locals looking to satisfy their sushi cravings, and after my first visit, I can definitely see why.
The store offers an impressive selection of Japanese goodies, including ramen, condiments, fresh sashimi, and a wide variety of sushi rolls. There are so many options and combinations to choose from. If you are looking for sashimi, head to the back of the store where they have conveniently packaged fish sold by the pound, and they will happily slice it for you. Or, if you are in a hurry, you can grab their freshly made sushi rolls from the refrigerators.
On my visit, I picked up ahi tuna, salmon, and yellowtail sashimi, along with California rolls and tuna rolls. Every piece of fish was incredibly fresh with a buttery texture and amazing flavor. The quality of the fish and the perfectly seasoned sushi rice were so good that I barely needed any soy sauce or wasabi.
I only recently discovered this hidden gem, but it has already become a place I will be visiting regularly. The sushi is high quality, reasonably priced, and absolutely delicious. If you are a sushi lover, Yama Sushi Marketplace is definitely worth checking out!“

“Super good, quick and really great service. The appetizer, Popular demand, was something I had never tried before and it was so yummy we ordered 2. We also had sweet Hawaiian roll and shooting star. Very good! Shooting star was my fave. Reasonable prices and it feels somewhat upscale.“

“One reason I really like this place is the fast service but you have to wait to get seated without reservation. Even if you joined the waitlist, you still have to wait when you get there so it’s kind of frustrating. But on the plus, once you’re seated, the service is quite fast from there on. Good freshly made handrolls and other items. The decor…Just my own opinion , i’m sure many loves it. The minimalist decor, I find it cold, dull and boring staring at a big gray concrete wall and kind of telling you that you need to go as soon as you’re done eating 😆 Which they literally are doing from what I’ve read. They don’t want you to enjoy any kind of artwork in front of you 😆“

“This place was recommended to us by a friend as one of the best sushi restaurants, and it absolutely lived up to the expectations.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our server immediately asked if we had been there before or if it was our first visit. Since it was our first time, he gave us a quick introduction to the menu and explained how everything worked.
We ordered one of the courses, and everything was amazing. The quality of the food was excellent, and honestly, these were some of the best sushi I have ever had.
I highly recommend visiting this place.“

“I got the most simple 3 hand roll set. It was good, not exceptional but I enjoyed them. The green tea I ordered was closer to matcha in water than brewed tea which I think is strange, and I also ordered a “Mochi” from the menu which ended up being an ice cream mochi. It was not labeled as being ice cream, which is common in sushi places in the US, but it was not labeled as such, so I thought it was just mochi. I still ate it because it was a reasonable price and it was good. The people working there were exceptional, especially the sushi chef working closest to me was very personable and kind.“

“This place does Japanese AND Thai food?! So let’s see if they’re pretty good eh or ew. I got their spicy tuna and imitation crab crispy rice, dragon roll, and chicken pad Thai to try. The spicy tuna was smooth, not fishy, not really spicy, and pretty limey. The imitation crab mixture was mellow, not fishy or stringy, and was a little mayoy. The rice on the bottom was lightly crispity crunchity and chewy. The dragon roll was filled with more of that imitation crab mix and crunchy briney not fishy masago and was topped with a thin layer of creamy avocado, fatty skin on eel, and sweet drizzle. Wasn’t the biggest fan of the eel skin. The pad Thai came fresh crunchy iceberg lettuce topped with like a peanut sauce dressing. The pad Thai itself was nicely sweet, savory, and tangy and had chewy springy rice noodles, crunchy bean sprouts and a decent amount of a bit dry chicken breast, egg, and bean curd. They’re family owned, everyone here is super nice, and everything tasted really fresh, clean, and not fishy which I like. Overall this place is lowkey pretty good.
Crispy rice $8.50
Dragon roll $19
Chicken pad Thai $21.50“
“been going to kogane for years and have always loved chef fumi’s nigiri omakase
as soon as chef roe told me chef fumi left to open osusume fumio i made a reservation immediately!
walking in and being greeted by natsuko and chef fumi’s smiles felt so nostalgic
the vibe is warm, conversational, and intimate;
chef fumi’s nigiri pairings are absolutely impeccable; perfect balance every single bite, my favorite this time was the anago
honestly i think they’re undercharging for this experience; even after the 15 courses we ordered the uni hand roll and chutoro as encore bites and they were both GASS despite being full
especially considering the price, highly recommend trying this place out!!! (parking is also quite easy since it’s the atwater village for anyone concerned about LA parking)“
“This restaurant is absolutely incredible! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, inviting, and full of great energy. The vibes are unmatched—perfect for a night out with friends, a date, or even just to treat yourself.
The food? Out of this world. Every dish is bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. The ambience ties it all together—stylish yet cozy, making you want to stay a little longer.
The service was just as impressive—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell the team takes pride in creating a memorable experience.
If you’re looking for a spot with amazing food, amazing vibes, and an unforgettable atmosphere, this is it. Highly recommend—you’ll want to come back again and again!“

“Sushi Monster – Montrose
We had a great experience at Sushi Monster in Montrose. From start to finish, everything felt relaxed, welcoming, and well taken care of.
The rolls were the standout — beautifully presented, generous portions, and packed with flavor. Each roll tasted fresh and well-balanced, without being overpowered by sauces. The nigiri and sashimi were equally impressive, clearly made with quality fish and attention to detail.
What really elevated the meal, though, was the attentive and friendly service. Our server was knowledgeable, checked in at the right moments, and made thoughtful recommendations without ever feeling rushed or pushy. It made the entire experience feel genuinely enjoyable.
If you’re looking for a reliable local sushi spot with excellent rolls and great service, Sushi Monster is absolutely worth a visit. We’ll definitely be back. 🍣“
