“Locally owned and situated on Marine Drive on Balboa Island with friendly staff. Our favorite is the shrimp spring rolls with homemade peanut sauce and for a hearty meal the pho filet mignon. For a nominal price upon request they will steam a plate of filet mignon for your furry friend. My minature goldendoodle Violet loves it!“

“KJB Pho & Egg Rolls is a small, unassuming Vietnamese cafe on Newport Boulevard that has quietly become one of our regular lunch spots.

The dinning room is simple, but there’s a warmth to it. The owner and her staff always greet you with a smile, and that same sense of care seems to carry into the food. Ingredients are noticeably fresh, portions are generous, and even familiar dishes feel a little more considered here.

I’ve worked my way through the pho, flat noodles and several of the banh mi. The barbecue pork sandwich is the one I keep coming back to: a substantial French roll, fresh ingredients and consistently good pork.

There’s a steady stream of takeout during lunch and dinner, and depending on the day, sometimes we grab ours to go and sometimes we stay. Either way, this is one of those small neighborhood restaurants where being welcomed genuinely adds something to the experience.

It’s also remarkably easy to get to right off Newport Boulevard, with plenty of parking whenever we’ve been there. If you’re in a rush they are quick to serve you as well. It’s an easy recommendation if you’re looking for Vietnamese food in Costa Mesa or Newport.“

“I was here on a rainy day last week and can say how this lab curated the most nourishing pho broth I’ve ever tasted! Ever in the Huntington Beach area? Give it a try! “Parking is very difficult here but we were lucky to find some street parking. We had a reservation but the place was not crowded so we were quickly seated. Took forever for the server to come to take the order. We had the vermicelli bowl with chicken (my favorite) and my colleague ordered the red curry with beef. He was disappointed in the dish finding it lacking in flavor and bite. The beef was fairly chewy too. My dish was the best with tender pieces of chicken, all the veggies we expected and a good portion of vermicelli noodles. Prices are high but it is Corona Del Mar and it was a good place to stop by for lunch. Lots of take away orders going out so it is popular with the locals. But parking is rough.“

“This is a solid Vietnamese restaurant in South OC. Everything about it is very traditional, the menu and food would be just the same in Vietnam. Got the Pho Tai and Oxtail Pho. Oxtail was nicely braised, the Pho Tai beef a bit overdone. Broth was good. Get the large for $1 more, the portions are huge.

To some previous posters that reflected on the higher prices, or humble furniture, welcome to South OC, the rent is too damn high.“

“I have been eating here since 2002 while still in high school. First time ever eating Pho here. These 3 Viet guys from my classes introduced me to Pho at this place. Been going here whenever I’m craving Pho or Viet food in the Irvine area. The most flavorful Pho broth out of any Viet restaurant I’ve ever ate in California.“

Blame covid for the price increases and there are sign posted to make you aware of the increase. it's the best food and most reasonable prices in town. if you cant afford a 11 dish then don't buy or complain about it. “Simply Pho is very good! Their Pho broth was flavorful, . We had both the beef broth and the chicken broths. The Vietnamese spring rolls have vermicelli and lettuce wrapped in rice paper, served with homemade sauce—so fresh and addictive. We had the chicken wraps. They also served us a free desert which was like a tapioca style pudding but really sweet!“

“This was my first time at this restaurant. I had the pho tai steak. The flavor of the broth was savory and complex. It was phenomenal. 😋The steak meat itself was lean which is what I wanted but it had a little bit of an after taste which is why I gave it a rating of 4. Next time I’ll just ask for the broth because that gets a score of 5/5!
The lady who was working was pleasant and cheerful. There’s plenty of parking.

“Ordering is a little confusing. There is a monitor that allows you the option of dine in or carryout. But then you need to go to front to pay before they make the order.

Food was ok. Yellow rice was a little dry, and the chicken thigh was tough and dry. Egg rolls were very good. People were very nice. Probably should have gotten the pho.“

“small Vietnamese restaurant with a very sweet owner. we came for lunch with a medium size party but she was so nice and quick to help. not too big of a crowd when we got there.

while we all wanted to try the pho, we all got a rice or a vermicelli dish which were each phenomenal. meat was very well-seasoned and lots of veggies in the bun dac biet. while it was too hot this time, next time we will definitely come for the pho.“

“honestly its one of the best spots in town and i keep coming back like alot, service is quick even when its packed which is every time im here. the broth has that deep richness you cant find everywhere, definately tastes like they put in the work not just tossing a bouillon cube in water. i've probably been like 20 times easily and I still order the same thing because why fix what isnt broken. only thing that bugs me is the parking situation, tommorrow when you come be prepared to hunt for a spot or park way out.

but the noodles and the meat portions are always on point so thats what matters in the end. like I said four stars because I love it but that parking lot stress keeps it from being perfect for me“

“Enjoyed a family lunch here. I ordered takeout since our kids were asleep in the car, but they woke up while we waited for it to be cooked so we asked to dine in instead. They were very friendly and accommodating to the switch, didn’t mind our kids at all. The ambiance was clean and quiet (not overly busy or crowded) with Kdrama love songs playing. Staff was attentive and friendly. The drinks were a very good value! Large sizes. We had the matcha latte and the peach lemonade and they were both super tasty. Two adults and 3 young kids shared the shrimp fried rice, one beef banh mi and one pork banh mi. We brought half of one sandwich home for leftovers so the serving sizes were generous. Macarons made a fun special treat at the end of the meal. Everything was very fresh and hit the spot.“

“Stopped in here for a quick lunch and had orange chicken, black pepper beef and some various dim sum items. Everything was good, the chive dumplings were HUGE and so flavorful we went back two days later to order more. Staff were very friendly, service was quick and the outdoor patio was nice.“

The chef was friendly and gave clear instructions and encouragement to the children. The children had the chance to learn the process and also be exposed to different ingredients. Bring on adult sessions too I say! It worked really well at 3pm, clearly a lull in diners so it was really quiet and I think the customers in actually enjoyed listening and watching- it didn't seem to disturb them. To help only feed back I would give is a need for some napkins on the table and to encourage participants to wash their hands before as I didn't feel we had time to go and do that before instructions began.
