“Great little gem! We really enjoyed their veggie croissants. And concha is not to be missed as well. Looking forward to coming back!
Plenty of street parking available, there’s outdoor seats available as well. And they serve coffee.
And best thing is..no long line !“

“Perfect place to grab satiating lunch and dinner when on-the-go AND on-a-budget. Discovered this place on a trip and have been coming back ever since. Communication can be quite tricky but you can also point out what you want and they’re very generous with their portions. The food is really good from the fried chicken/pork to the rice, noodles, vegetable stir fry, shrimp, etc. The lines can be long during lunch rush but they work to get you in & out as quickly as possible“

“It’s one thing when the food is great, but the staff was BEYOND amazing- my boyfriend accidentally left his phone behind and as we walked the man behind the counter chased us down to return it! We’ll definitely be coming back for their delicious bahn mis and their wonderful service“

“This is a beautifully designed Cafe that’s very welcoming! The Horchata latte and almond croissant that I had was absolutely delicious! Only reason why it’s a four-star is because their directional signs aren’t very clear and the bathroom smells really bad!“

“I had an amazing experience with Crumble & Whisk! They catered a community event for me during the holiday season, and I can't wait to use them again! This Black-owned bakery offers the most delicious, fresh-baked treats with a perfect balance of flavor and texture. From the buttery, flaky pastries to the rich, moist cakes, every bite is a delight. The staff is warm and welcoming, making you feel like family from the moment you walk in. Their commitment to quality and community is truly inspiring. Charles is a master at his craft, and both his catering and baking will elevate anyone's event to the highest standard.“

“Hands down my favorite neighborhood coffee shop. There’s a lot of good coffee in Oakland, but this is everything a coffee shop should be — a part of the community, a part of people’s daily routine. Baristas who know your name and know your order. The perfect cup of coffee, zero pretentiousness. Even though I no longer live in the neighborhood, when I want a great cup of coffee, this is where I come.“

“The very long line of happily waiting customers was the first clue that this place was going to be something special. Then we had the delicious bagel, later we had the yummy vanilla strawberry birthday cake. But the next day we popped the buttermilk biscuits into the oven to warm and WOW... BEST BISCUITS EVER! EVER! We still have a baguette and sandwich rolls waiting, but THANK YOU for making a safe and absolutely delicious place for my celiac daughter to enjoy. ( and me too)“

“Gregory’s gourmet deserts is a little peace of heaven on earth! The soul that goes into his deserts are not only filled with passion but also with flavor! Humble beginnings and beautiful cheesecakes are coming out of his paradise! I am from Wisconsin and we know a thing or two about cheese but I can tell you we can’t compare to Gregory and his cheesecakes! I hope he decides one day to create a cookbook because he is just that amazing! I can’t express how heavenly and rich his deserts are but please don’t pass this gem up if you do, you will regret it!!!“

“The kouign-Aman and croissants were the very best pastry I have ever had from Starter Bakery. I am from Eugene Oregon and would drive back down to Berkley/Oakland area for this pastry any day! The bread is amazing as well... Well done Starter Bakery! B"“

“I'm here to rave about the Portugese egg custard tart aka Po Tat
they are $2.25 @. vs. $1.75@ for the regular egg custard. The one I tried today was slightly sweet with a carmelized top and the crust was quite flaky / tender. The custard was fluffy and light, Would definitely be back for these. I usually go to Ruby King for egg custard tarts but they are closed on Tuesdays for now ...... so I went to Napolean Super Bakery / Oakland. So glad I did.“

“A new contender for the best kalamata olive bread (4/5 Green Stars). It’s Day 3 of Shelterfest, sponsored by Coronavirus, and I was feeling kinda satisfied (i.e., less guilty than yesterday) after making an earnest attempt to work remotely. So I took myself off for an afternoon stroll and, landing in the vicinity of College and Alcatraz Ave, decided to pick up some bread if there was any to be had. La Farine was quiet and there was plenty of bread left, even at 4 pm. (So pop in to support them if you’re in the area!) I usually get their rustic baguette but this time bought a loaf of olive bread. The servers were super friendly and one asked me if I wanted some free pastries. Ya-ha I did! I scuttled home with my bag of goodies and heated up one of the freebies – a chocolate croissant (toaster oven, bake for 3-5 min). The croissant doesn’t look that amazing, I have to admit, but it tasted wonderful. Buttery, flakey pastry and just the right amount of good quality chocolate. Later I had the bread – I’m a big fan of Semifreddi’s Kalamata olive bread so the bar was pretty high. I have to say that it was up there with my favorite bread – it was a little fuller than the Semifreddi’s loaf, but that wasn’t a bad thing as I sometimes feel that I’m eating a lot of air with the latter. In summary, I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed La Farine before because I’ve gone there many a time. I recommend the three things mentioned above and also their Irish soda bread is really good and pretty authentic. I just found out that La Farine started out in this location in 1977 – almost as old as I am, said Bilbo. I'm also giving La Farine 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • It seems that they use conventional white flour and organic whole wheat flour. • Their website is lacking on information on ingredient sourcing (compared to, say Acme). I’d like to know more about their flour, eggs, butter, chocolate, etc. • La Farine donates leftover products to area food banks and senior centers • They also support Bay Area schools and other local causes • Their bags are made from post-consumer recycled paper and printed with water-based inks. • Most of the menu is vegetarian and some of the breads are vegan. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me!“

“I got some mooncakes as a gift during the Mid-Autumn Festival, and I was blown away by the lotus paste with salted “egg yolk.” I never thought I’d ever have another mooncake like the ones I grew up with. Now I’ve found the place that will let me eat mooncakes with the “little moons” again! ? They also offer fun and interesting mooncake flavors like chocolate and hazelnut or brownie with matcha chocolate.“

“Cash only pastries shop. It is interesting chinese cake and pastries shop. From outside you won't know itvis a cake shop as it looks a bit run down. I feel like I am back to my childhood when I saw so many pastries which I had when I was a kid and the taste is still the same. I bought some home and had some at the store. The husband and wife baked cake are authentic. The worker is friendly but mostly cannot speak English well but cantonese.“

“Did a special order for a birthday party, Meyer lemon cupcakes, and salted caramel cupcakes. They were all delicious and gorgeous. Every guest gushed over them. They've ruined me for any other cupcakes tbh! As I told my husband, "Now you know what to go get me next time you mess up!" My suggestion: get more than you think you'll need, because there won't be any leftovers!“

“We love the pastries, cakes, and bread at La Farine. They are delicious and expertly made. We were disappointed this morning with the service in the morning, when we requested that the savory pastry be warmed. They said they didn't do that, and when I asked for honey for my tea, they said there's the sugar. It was rude and uncaring
, inconsistent with the quality and care that goes into their baking. When we went to pick up the cakes this afternoon, we were pleasantly surprised at the amiable and professional service from the afternoon staff, offering lettering on the cake and being warm and attentive.“

“Called and told them I wanted a pizza. I was skeptical at first, but man the pizza was delicious! Every slice was so cheesy and mouthwatering. Eating the pizza fresh is a must as the bread can get hard. If need to reheat, do not reheat inmicrowave, reheat in oven or in a pan over the stovetop.“
“I got the horchata frappe with soy milk and it blew my mind ?Most delicious coffee I’ve had in a very long time!!!It easily beats Starbucks, McDonald’s cafe, Peet’s and even hasta muerte’s coffee up the streetsoooooo bomb you won’t regret it! I can’t wait to try the other flavors ?(I had a few sips in the pictures, whipped cream was up to the top when served)“

“I ordered a carrot cake for her birthday. Spoke to Phoebe the night before I needed the cake. She was incredibly helpful in putting together the custom options I wanted for the cake for the next day. The turnaround was super quick. The cake was beautiful, delicious and super moist. A thing of beauty. I will have for my order from Ladyfingers again.“

“Ummm... This is the best place ever!!! Food is good. Employees are good. Emile, Abe, Jose, Brenda, Mario and everyone else who works there TOTALLY ROCK. It is a DAILY ritual to walk and get a coffee. I hope they are around forever. And I LOVE what the new oven-warmer does to the breakfast sandwiches. Good call.“
“I've been to their original location, but not this one until today. Lately, I've been on a sugar binge since I will be heading back home to vegas today is the day to treat myself. The shop is located midway up the block between International and Foothill Blvd there's no seating only to-go. There's not much to say about the place, its dated with couple of display cases, coffee station, and plexiglass counter. When I walk in my mind was racing thinking if they sold out of tres leches, but discovered they just put out a fresh batch. Girl at counter greeted me just business as usual for her, but for me, I was like a kid in there. I got me a slab of tres leches USD$3.50 with big smile and immediately ate half of it before taking off. After a recent trip trying grocery store version Los Mexicanos is on a level of their own. This slab was moist and soft made-fresh well balance not overly sweet and not much excessive liquid. Would've definitely eaten another slab if my life depended on it. #saintelizabeth #meteredparking #offthebeatingpath #noseating #to-go #social-distancing #mexicandessert #bakedgoods #coffee #juice #soda #jello #flan #cheesecake #tresleches #cashonly #highlyenjoyable #homemade #bakery-fresh #light-as-air #milky #traditional #friendlyservice“

“I was looking for Rosca de reyes and I came across this bakery, and with the news that the bread is super soft ?, if I recommend it, I would like to encourage you to make a batch of Ate-filled bagels with fruits uff. A year ago I bought a 3 milk cake and it was also very tasty ??“
“Excellent bakery very similar to the ones common in Japan, Korea and Hong Kong with delicate cakes & pastries.
It’s a small outpost inside Koreana Plaza (a large scale Asian grocery store) and mainly catering Asian customers who used to buy similar baked treats for afternoon snacks.
The delicate rolls with coffee flavor or green tea (macha)with thin spread of buttercream is very popular. Perfect cake with a coffee or tea for a dessert.
The whole roll (serve about 10 slices) is for $21.50. Great to bring it to a dinner party.“

“Their pan dulce especially the conchas are delicious! Reminds me of my childhood getting bread from Miramontes or in Mexico. Its a small grocery store, the bakery is in the back and I always grab the breads fresh off the racks . The conchas are fresh, soft in delicious probably the Best in Oakland to be honest, I come here every weekend early morning for my pan dulce fix. Soon as you walk towards the store you can smell the delicious fresh bread baking. Don't let the neighborhood deter you from trying the best bread out.“

“I've been coming here for years. You can almost always find what you want. No worries about things running out. It's hard to pick just one bread. Prices are always fair. Staff are mostly Spanish speaking only. They only take cash and there isn't an ATM in store.“
“The best Chapin bread and that's it. I am Mexican and Mexican bread is very delicious but I like this bread better. In addition, Oakland is already getting its act together and is cleaning the streets of all the trash there is. So now the bakery is more accessible.“

“We were gifted our first ever Bake Sum box. After trying just one bite of a Yuzu meringue bun I knew I needed more. Ordered our second BSB last week and shared amongst the roomies, huge hit. Well baked, not too sweet, great flavor combinations. 10/10 would recommend the Bake Sum box. If you can’t grab a box, you can grab al a cart day of pick ups just to tide you over until you can get a box 😋“
