“Cool place to go eat. I came here for the first time during my birthday and I loved everything about it. The decoration, the food, the service, and the cleanliness. I'm surprised this place doesn't get crowded. It's a must-go for Oakland people. The food was delicious!!! I'll keep trying more of their dishes. Also, I'm thankful for the service because people were so polite and patient. I 100% recommend.“
“LOVE this place. Absolute best Eritrean food we've tried anywhere - including LA and Seattle where they say has some of the biggest populations outside of Eritrea.THE PEOPLEIt's owned and run by the family. The mother is the chef and daughter is pretty much always there waiting customers. It looks like the restaurant itself is an extension of their home (or at least A home).THE FOODThe best part is that they have an extensive vegetarian menu beyond just the standard "veggie platter" you can get at any Ethiopian or Eritrean place. MUST TRY THE MUSHROOM TIBS. Every carnivore we've taken here has loved it. Also get the veggie sambusas (similar in concept to an Indian samosa or a fried dumpling). Always super fresh. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Like any good fried things should be.“
“Decent Ethiopian food. My friend called beforehand to make sure they served gluten free injera but when we arrived they didn't have any in stock. They offered me more protein in my order as a compromise which I accepted. Before ordering, we asked for our food to be spicy but it was on the bland side. Food was decent but not the best Ethiopian food in the Bay. Server was nice.“
“Very good coffee, nothing fancy. Very good food options (I usually get the shihan ful). Hangout for a portion of the local Eritrean community. Very friendly place.Dietary restrictions: I've gone with a friend who has a serious food allergy. They were great about accommodating.“
“Excellent choice for those that prefer vegan gluten free! There are a lot of restaurants in this area but this is the place for VGF food. Very fresh and tasty. The staff are friendly, upbeat and welcoming. Recommended for everyone. What a gem!“
“We had the Doro Tibs, Beg Alicha, Azifa, and Vegetarian sampler. The injera fermented bread was amazing!! The food was excellent, service was great, and the servers were very friendly and fast. Multiple spice levels are available (the normal options are not very spicy for those with lower tolerance). Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Highly recommend to anyone!“
“I had the best red lentils I've ever tasted here. The vegetable wot is especially good, well seasoned greens, cabbage, corn, etc. on injera. And the parking's good, especially for Berkeley. My companion and I each got parking spots right in front of the restaurant.“
“Offering a slight update on Ethiopian classics, Mela Bistro is an excellent option for healthy and flavor-forward meat and vegetable based stews. The housemade fermented injera unique in its fluffy airiness, leaving one still feeling light by the end of a meal.A tasteful interior and very friendly service make for a great date spot.“
“Blue Nile was my first taste of Ethiopian food, and I'm glad I tried it! The Meat Combo Platter was a hit! The Doro Wot, a traditional chicken stew with its rich and spicy sauce, was a standout, perfectly showcasing the bold flavors of Ethiopian cuisine. The Alicha Yeb'ge, a mild lamb stew, offered a delightful contrast with its aromatic blend of spices. And the Beef Bamia, with its tender beef simmered alongside okra and tomatoes, was a savory delight. The only hiccup was the slow service during lunchtime. We were the only ones eating inside, and it took a while for the server to bring water and menus. Plus, we waited another 30 minutes for our food. They could work on being quicker and more attentive. But despite that, Blue Nile is a great spot to explore Ethiopian flavors.“
“MAN, OMG! This is our NEW order-from/hangout place. NOT ONLY is the owner VERY FRIENDLY, KIND & HELPFUL but the FOOD is EXCELLENT (KUDOS to the Kitchen Chef whom customers often NEGLECT/FORGET about congratulating/commending in PERSON!). VERY VERY EXCELLENT (TOP NOTCH!) tuna sandwich! This place KNOWS what they're doing!!! And, NOT too many places know HOW to make a GREAT-TASTING tuna salad! Many either put TOO much mayonnaise or make it TOO dry. Places also tend sometimes to use brand/suppliers of tuna which tastes TOO FISHY!!! However, NOT SO AT ALL here, at Jebena Cafe! Their (female) cook makes a REAL "BOMB" (THE Bomb!) of a tuna sandwiches we've tasted in a LONG time (&, TRUST us! We've tasted tuna sandwiches in MANY-a-PLACES before!). This place makes one of the BEST ! NOT too salty; NOT too creamy; BOT too dry! JUST well-balanced good-fish taste with very FRESH & CRUNCHY lettuce & JUST RIGHT, well-toasted slices of bread!!! This sandwich ALWAYS gets even a HIGHER-MARKUP/"upgrade" when you ADD their SLICED HARD-BOILED egg to it!!! Their avocado toast is ALSO WONDERFUL-highly recommended (we always order BOTH the TUNA but ALSO, the AVOCADO toast & combine them, eating one half of each then, are left with the 2 other halves to go/for later (except that one must remember that avocado tends to darken if/when not eaten fresh)!!! Finally, their MOCHA & LATTE are great!!!“
