“We had minced pork on rice, beef noodle soup, Dan Dan noodles, basil eggplant, pork belly bun, shaved ice and dou hua.
Overall, the food is pretty good. With some fine tunes, it can be closer to the yummy level of food in Taiwan, like some red beans in dessert are still hard, Dou Hua is too dry and needs some liquid or shaved ice to go with it, traditional shaved ice is too sweet though I like it much better than Korean style shaved ice, and brown rice is too hard. Service is good. Staff is nice. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable. Order at the counter, self service for water, extra bowls and utensils.
We live in the west side, and we will come back to try other stuff on the menu.“

“Totally worth the 70 minute drive. Delicious food and great Taiwanese hospitality. Friendly, attentive staff and wonderful atmosphere. Minced Pork (Lu-Rou) Rice, fully loaded delicious stewed pork with egg. Meats are juicy and tender, kinda on the sweet side. Clamshell bun (Gua Bao) comes with tender thick cut pork, a bit on the salty side, but very well cooked. Fatty but not greasy. Thousand layer pancake with egg and basil was crispy and flaky. The basil flavor is a wonderful addition. Scallion bread sandwich was what we expected. Same tender thick cut pork, very happy to eat this. Next time I will probably get the beef, too much pork belly today Wonton soup is very classic, if you like shrimp wontons, you have to try this. We ended the meal with Hakka mochi and Oolong tea, the mochi tasted just like the ones in Taiwan. The tea was fragrant and is just the perfect compliment to the mochi. Overall an amazing meal with warm and friendly people, highly recommend!“

“Waited in the rain for about 40 minutes. Was glad this place didn't dissappoint. Beef Bowl, Dumplings, and Beef Noodles were really good. I got so full I couldn't try the Dan Dan Noodles or Spicy Beef Soup. Not pictures was the shrimp fried rice which was also tasty. Would come back again.“

“I enjoyed this place a lot. It was a little bit hard to find at first, as it is located above the supermarket. The server was very friendly, helping me to find a good vegetarian option. The cold sesame noodles were tasty and refreshing, and the price is not bad ($8.99). The dining area is spacious and comfortable.“

“Best Taiwanese food you have ever eaten! So far, everything is delicious 🤤. I ordered their fried pork chop, and it's so juicy. I enjoy their mustard greens but they are good with pork belly rice. The rice was delicious because the fatty and lean meat was evenly portioned in every bite. I ordered the pork intestine with oyster vermicelli, but I prefer only the oyster because the intestines, to my preference, are a bit plain. The oysters are fresh, and it would be nice if the menu had fried oysters as appetizers 👍. The popcorn chicken wasn't my favorite because it had less basil and was sweet, which was different from the ones I had. But overall, it's good, and I will be coming back.“

“This place is a gem for its beef noodle soup, cold noodles, and the squid side dish. The food is simply amazing! However, the issue is the limited operating hours. The last time I visited at 2:30 PM, they were hesitant but eventually allowed me to dine. Unfortunately, during my recent visit at 2 PM, they were completely out of beef noodle soup and many other items, leading to an early closure. The friendly lady was nice to still let me order the dan dan noodle that had to be cooked and the cold noodles that were readily available. Ended buying a bunch of side dishes too to eat in the parking lot.“

“Classic Taiwanese food. They hit me with the Mandarin the minute I stepped inside and I was totally unprepared for that to happen but it was chill.
Service is very fast. The price is not super cheap but it is reasonable. We got 麻辣豆乾 (spicy bean curd), 香腸 (Sinbala sausage), 炸排骨乾麵 (fried pork chop dry noodles), and 扣肉飯 (pork belly rice). The portions are pretty large. The pork chop was dry but crispy, so I have mixed feelings about that one.
They take card if you order more than $30 worth of food. I’d love to come back to try their shaved ice because I hear it’s better than Meet Fresh!“

“We stopped by Monja Taiker in Arcadia before heading to Santa Anita Park to watch race horsing. Ordered three combo meals and one beef noodle soup—classic Taiwanese flavors, and the noodle was especially good. Prices were fair.
Only downside: the combo plates are like kids’ trays. A larger plate would make the meal look and feel better.
Will definitely return when we are in this area again.“

“We ordered Taiwanese fried rice noodles, green onion and sesame flatbread, Hakka stir-fry, Shacha beef water spinach and dried lentils.
Hakka stir-fry, it is really fried with dried squid, which is something very few restaurants do. But why stir-fry satay sauce? At first I thought it was dried shredded pork until I tasted dried squid. The dried tofu is cut so well!
Taiwanese fried rice noodles, fried very well, there is no sauce at the bottom of the plate, amazing! ? The rice noodles are very elastic and delicious!
The dry lentils were just average.
I will eat it next time and will continue to order Taiwanese fried rice noodles, Hakka stir-fried rice noodles and other dishes.“
“Jayden and the team at Blue Magpie pulled out all the stops for our family Christmas Eve dinner, in the midst of an epic storm. I could not have been more full or happy with all they did for us. This new and absolutely beautiful restaurant on the site of the former/infamous Rod's Grill will not disappoint.“

“This is a Taiwanese restaurant, nothing fancy but old style Taiwanese comfort food. It's not even a big restaurant, but a small one. Their salt and pepper chicken with basil is top notched as well as stinky tofu. They don’t really have a server but only the owner and yet they provide good service. This restaurant has hand made dumplings which you can buy and bring home to cook. Overall, a good and authentic Taiwanese food.“

“Got the pork chop rice, veggie purple rice roll, and milk tea. The rice plate came with pickles, cabbage, and whole braised egg. The meat was flavorful and tender and it good portion size for $12. The milk tea was also very good. The only thing we would not recommend is the rice roll. The chinese donut was tough and not crunchy and overall was very plain with only picked veggies included.“

“Stopped in for a boba after visiting my favorite Indian restaurant next door.
I ordered a chrysanthemum, oolong tea with boba, 50% sweet, lite ice.
The boba is delicious and the tea was so flavorful.
Coincidently, the owner’s wife, Cleo, owns Sharp Tea in Little Tokyo, another tea shop that I go to all the time. Sharp Tea is delicious, too, if you find yourself on the Weller Court.
I will return to Why Thirsty again. Everyone here is super nice and have positive spirits.
Thank you, Why Thirsty and Cleo!!
P.S. The air conditioner works very well!! (:“

“88 is a neighborhood classic -- a family-friendly mom n' pop shop with great noodles and quick service, and free parking outside.
Their speciality is beef noodles, which is a must try if you're in the area. The broth is savory without being overly salty, and the beef is nice and tender. I recommend having it with their mustard greens on the side. The noodles are bouncy, and the meal overall is comforting and especially satisfying in cold weather.
They've been around for quite some time, and I highly recommend stopping by.“

“A real gem of a place among a lot of average Chinese restaurants in this area. The Peking duck itself is done in a style that seems authentic to Beijing, though it may not suit everyone's tastes especially those with a canto preference. Majority of the banquet restaurants in SGV have a Cantonese slant to Peking duck dishes (lotus buns, sweeter hoisin sauce, slightly more caramelized skins) but I'm not trying to draw too much of a comparison here as its just fundamentally different.
Duck House was fantastic in terms of flavor and preparation of the duck. The skin was super crispy, the meat tasted fairly lean yet succulent, and the sauce/condiments paired very well. Delicious, and upscale, though I would say for one duck and only 10 pancakes, it was nearly $100 and I don't think it was so outstanding to warrant that price. We added 5 lotus buns and 5 add'l pancakes which bumped it to $110. It did however feed 3 adults and 2 young kids fully, so about $20 pp is pretty decent for fancy duck.“

“Craving Asian BBQ but don't really want to over-pay and under-eat? This is the spot for you! This Taiwanese BBQ is a self service spot. Get your chunky butt up and pull plates of meat, veggies, desserts from the freezer! Don't forget the butter!
The unlimited rice, porridge and soup helps fill what the meats don't.
The meat here is pretty basic. It's thin cuts of maranaded beef, pork, chicken, lamb, etc. Not the highest quality, but you're paying $4.99 or so per plate. Whether you grill or hotpot, you're charged for what you grab.
They have happy hours here too where you save like 15% or so! Definitely some cheap BBQ eats. Great for groups. Very interactive without overeating and without breaking the bank.
I went today with my senior parents of (group of 3) and our total was $41 after tax. Insane in 2025! If you want to go ham on the protein, maybe do a AYCE KBBQ.
My only complaint is everything is a but sticky from the bbq smoke. Definitely wear some clothes that are ready for the wash. Not a first date place. More like a go in your PJs as a fun date night after the fact. Cheers.“

“Kitty's Cafe is a Taiwanese style eatery in the north side of the SGV. We stopped by to grab a quick snack. This used to be Copycat Cafe as a heads-up for those wondering. When you come inside, you'll notice a retro look as there are things that still are in transition from Copycat. But that doesn't mean that the food itself was solid. We ordered a set of popcorn chicken for the road and after about 10 minutes, we got our bag full of popcorn chicken goodies. The chicken was delicious - not too crispy and super flavorful. Had a slightly sweet flavor and was nice and hot. The only thing that would've helped would have been some sweet and sour sauce. At least on the weekend, there's plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. The owners are super nice. Know they commented to us that they have been having a tougher time during the pandemic with some lost business around town so they could definitely use the help!“

“I haven’t been back to Los Angeles for eight years. “Rolling Pot” is an element of Los Angeles that remains in my memory. Millet porridge, sweet potato porridge, various side dishes, and biscuits, as well as the World Journal for sale. I’ll check it out next time I go back. Look, I don't know if the two sisters selling rice are still there? I miss the days when I first came to the United States, the days when I struggled for half a day to get three small dishes or five, those who had dinner together, hope everything is ok!“
“Taiwanese person review:
This place is a sleeper hit for Taiwanese style beef noodle soup — round cut beef shanks (not cubed or chunked), homemade pickled mustard greens, and homemade chili oil.
Came here while visiting and was blown away given there are other options that look good too.
Probably still relatively unknown or gate kept bc it’s easy to miss and doesn’t look like much.
Get the beef noodle soup and be transported to the beef noodle soup stalls in Taiwan. Like most legit places, they will have their own homemade take on the pickled mustard greens and chili oil.
Seats like 10 people comfortably or maybe 15 people as a squeeze.
Has a bunch of traditional side dishes or take home meals and also frozen dumplings for sale. Saw 6 aunties come in while I ate and buy loads of stuff and bounce bc they know what’s up 👀“

“God! It's a touching taste
We came to play from AZ and were recommended by relatives and friends to try it out.
Shacha water spinach and mutton is simply the taste that I miss in my memory
The scallion chicken is super tender, the oyster cakes are also delicious, and the kids love the sausages.
But the shredded ginger intestine is not sour enough, and the intestine is a bit too soft after cooking.
What’s even more touching is that if you spend $30 or more, you’ll get a free Taiwanese beer!
It’s just a quick-service restaurant!
Fast food and great service!“

“I’ve been on a Taiwanese food binge lately and have been searching everywhere for some good, authentic Taiwanese dishes. This little mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall spot really hit the mark. The food tastes just like what I’d expect from back home or from the night markets in Taiwan.
I tried the stinky tofu (a must-have for any true Taiwanese food lover), the pork chop rice, and a few other dishes—and every bite was delicious, flavorful, and comforting. The portions are generous without being overwhelming, and the seasoning is on point.
The owners are super friendly and welcoming, which makes the dining experience feel even more like you’re visiting family. The restaurant shares a plaza with other shops, so there’s plenty of parking available, which is a big plus.
A couple of tips: it’s best to bring cash, as not everything is set up for cards. Also, they do have a restroom on site, which is always nice for a small place like this.
Overall, this is the kind of spot you want to keep coming back to—and the kind of hidden gem you almost don’t want to share so it stays special. Definitely one of my new go-to Taiwanese comfort food spots!“

“If you like Mama Lu's or P P pop, this is another similar restaurant with the same type of comfort foods that you'll also like as well. And like the other two spots, this place can get packed fast for both dinner and lunch. They have great portions (peep the giant cup of lemon iced tea) and the beef noodles and XLBs are the go-to's. Stir fried udon is one of my faves. Parking can be difficult though!“

“The human touch of a bowl of noodles⋯When I used to work at a newspaper in Mengcheng City, I would go to this Shanghai aunt’s noodle shop with other reporters to dine ?She remembered our preferences and faces after several visits. We didn’t meet for a while after leaving the job. One day we met by chance on the road, and my aunt still remembered me!After chatting for a while and saying goodbye, she said that she wanted to treat her to a meal next time she went to a restaurant. I didn't take it to heart. Until a few days ago, I drove by and wanted to eat their bowl of noodles. When I walked in, she was talking on the phone to take orders. When she saw my eyes widened, she asked me to sit down. Not long after, my dry noodles were served. Plus a red oil snack as a treat. This bowl of noodles is quite special. It is neither fried noodles nor sesame noodles, but fried sesame noodles mixed with two sauces. The menu is called "Strange Flavor Noodles". The taste is quite rich. When eating, you should mix it with raw cucumber. The noodles, sauce and refreshing cucumber naturally form a delicious balance that makes you want to take another bite.Maybe it's so strange. After eating it for the first time, I ordered this bowl of noodles from the store every time I came back. Several times when I walked into the store, my aunt yelled at the kitchen, knowing that this was what I ordered. While eating noodles, we talked about many things, including the decline of the newspaper office, and many people left! There are all new faces now, and the lively scenes before are no longer there. I smiled and said, many old employees should come back to see you, right? She laughed and said that it was true. Every once in a while, old faces come to reminisce, including me who showed up today. When she was leaving after the meal, she waved her hand and said don't give me any money. I said give me a tip! I just left the money on the table and emphasized that I would still come back. Not only was this bowl of noodles the most important thing, the human touch was priceless.“
