“All the food was great specially the Sushi, one of the best I've had in awhile. Service was ok for me, but I overheard the waiter talking nicely to some folks that seem to be "usuals". The atmosphere was wonderful as we had great views of the ocean. This place could be a wonderful place for a date night.“
“Some of the best poke I've ever had. I feel like all poke places skimp on the fish, but that didn't ruin my experience given how fresh it was here. Good selection of toppings, and the avocado was incredibly fresh - score! Worth the price for sure. Would definitely recommend.“
“A rated. I eat poke all over town and hands down this is the best poke on the Westside. The quality is great, a good selection and variety of veggies and protein offered which result in great taste and the portions are honestly huge. Price wise..... Definitely good deal!Parking may be a bit on the short side but I have never found it challenging....always got a meter on the street within a minute's walk.“
“Okay nothing this good should be in Redondo Beach but it is? Shame on all of the other pretenders. It’s just that superb. Chef Jen scales the culinary heights of Parnassus with ease and grace. A superb experience! You have to slow down and adjust to the tempo of the space and service. You have no better place to go! Trust me!“
“My go-to place for sushi when I happen to be in LA. There are no reservations, so you typically have to wait, but for not a lot of time. They have the right match of service people to tables and their system works well. The fish is always fresh and the tip is a flat rate on the bill at 16%. It’s a pretty small place, so probably not good for groups larger than 6 or with picky eaters (this is a sushi restaurant and doesn’t have too much else). The only ding is the their app sometimes calls you for your table too early and you have to wait in the restaurant before they call you back up.“
“First time visiting and we had the omakase. The staff welcomed us like they have known us for years as soon as we walked in. The service throughout the omakase was amazing and the sushi was the best weve had since visiting Japan! Toshisan is passionate and friendly. Cant wait to go back asap! I wish I could keep Toshi Sushi to myself and not tell anyone about it, but they deserve to be successful so I chose to write this review. We are incredibly lucky to have sushi of this quality, at s reasonable price, and in Gardena no less. If you're reading this, dont think about it any longer and just go.“
“I like this place! Japanese food, Hawaiian music, it's like I'm in Hawaii visiting family, lol. Parking might be a little inconvenient, but not a problem. I parked in the back. It's pick-up style and the hours are limited. Definitely will be coming back to try other things“
“We have come here a few times and each visit has been great. The food is always fresh and delicious. Highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Definitely try the soba! They make it in house and it’s so good! My absolute favorite is the Asari appetizer. The flavor was amazing!!!!“
“Vegetarian options: There is a vegetarian bowl option.Parking: Slightly small parking lot but there is more space behind the restaurant.Kid-friendliness: Not too many options but the kids bowl is quite simple but good, it has imitation crab and sushi rice.Wheelchair accessibility: There’s a ramp at the front of the restaurant.“
“Had such a delicious dinner here. We knew they were known for their soba and tempura and we enjoyed these for sure, but I can’t stop thinking about the Berkshire pork rice dish! The atmosphere was cozy and the service was so friendly. Also thought the prices were reasonable for the quality and portions. I’m looking forward to going back!Parking: Limited free parking lot in the back“
“Super friendly service! After 20 years since my first time, they STILL have $1 salad. Nothing has changed. I love that about this place. It's like a little family. It's very hard for me to pick pasta since i am not familiar with the names, but every time i pick something (always different), it comes out good. Would always come back to this. Plus, there is an ARMY cashier here. IYKYK. ?“
“it's worth seeking out Kurisaki, probably the best sushi we've had in LA, at least since the 90s when we used to go out to San Bernadino. There's a lot of choice here, delicacies you won't find on menus you might put some blind faith on... The service is super friendly. Next time in LA we will be back.“
“Parking is really easy even on weekends. The restaurant is spacious and the staff is friendly. The menu has lots of different food options. This place is great to hang out with friends and family to catch up or meet up. Our party had a baby, they have high chairs and staff were very accommodating, we did not feel like a nuisance while dining here. When the baby was rowdy and there was a lobby area just a short walk away to calm the baby down with various Japanese decor.“
“Humble mom and pop sushi shop with yummy, fresh, made to order sushi. Best part: at supermarket prices! They have to compete with the likes of Nijiya, Tokyo Central, and Mitsuwa nearby, so they have brought their A game. Bonus: the interior decor is a must for any baseball fan! No interior dining yet since Covid, so don't be late to your potluck with your mom and pop sushi! Let the adorable sushi clock lead you“
“Sushi Island is a great place to eat at! Most of the time, I order takeout and I usually get the same thing every time. I order a combination plate with Japanese style meatballs and sesame chicken. The meal comes with rice, salad and miso soup on the side. The food is delicious and the people who work there are always nice and helpful! I love coming here and will continue to do so. I definitely recommend eating here if you haven't tried it yet. :-)“
“Been to many locations for their infamous ramen? including the 'Shin Zen Gumi to go' d just down the street from this location.Me, the wifey, & daughter came here because we usually like to go to the 'Jedaya' Japanese restaurant which is in the same plaza. There was a 45 minute wait on a Sunday evening and we didn't want to wait.Since Shin Zen Gumi was just a short walk away, we decided to come here.We didn't realize that it was based on Yakitori grilled styled Japanese and therefore I wasn't gonna be able to get any tempura like I normally would, however a change in pace would be just as fine.We studied the menu for a few minutes and were easily enticed to order some yakitori meats ? which was surprisingly delicious with a garlic dipping sauce, couple bowls of Shio ramen which was delicious for that style of ramen they didn't have tonkatsu style available , some grilled gyoza ? for our daughter, karaage which also was delicious and fried to perfection , and finally I ordered a plate of their garlic shrimp ? fries?.Now I normally do not ever get fries at a Japanese restaurant however I randomly chose this item and didn't regret it one bit. The shrimp were tantalizingly grilled to perfection with its own unique flavor accompanied with their own amazing sauce They drizzled the fries which were straw style and just perfect with the way they served them up.Last but not least a large Sprite, Kirin Ichiban Bottled Beer, and some water to wash it down. The place was crazy busy, however the staff made you feel at home with the way they shout their welcoming and departing greetings. The restaurant was clean, organized, and outstanding service which made our first time experience an awesome one. I give it a 5 star rating for their excellent dining experience ?We'll definitely come back here for more of their Yakitori style cuisine!Awesome job Shin-Zen-Gumi ?Parking: There is a huge parking lot that is free, however spaces may vary during dinner and peak hours.“
“I wanted to love this hole in the wall Japanese spot. The portions are borderline grotesque large (bang for your buck I guess), but the food itself had some misses. The potato croquettes were pretty good, and the chicken katsu curry generally had a good taste, but the curry itself had chunks of chicken that were so overcooked that I felt like I was chewing dissolving erasers. My friend’s teriyaki chicken was similar in that it tasted good, but was mostly over burned. The staff was hustling and were nice, albeit straight to the point.Vegetarian options: I did see a fair amount of vegetarian option, but meat dishes are definitely more prevalent.“
“This is my early young childhood and adulthood! I love the people here and have been a long time customer for them forever!A bit late for the review but would definitely say that the wait is worth it! Love my chicken katsu plate I get from them <3“
“I’ve been coming here for well over a decade now, and it remains remarkably consistent. The ramen is delicious, the topping choices are vast enough to never run out of potential combinations, the service staff are always friendly and enthusiastic, and the vibe is always bustling with life. The spot continues to thrive for this long for a reason – it’s a definite stop for anyone that enjoys ramen and Japanese food generally.“
“Oishi desu!! (It's delicious) I found this place by just searching for Japanese food near the botanical garden up the street. Needless to say, my search didn't fail me. The omakase meal set was so good!! We went here for Valentine's Day and I made a reservation a week ahead of time, just to be safe, but I don't think it was necessary. I think walk ins were being accepted. We both got the omakase set, one NY steak and one filet mignon. So good! Cooked to perfection. Ending the meal with dessert, we had a wide variety of selection. We got one green tea crème brûlée (WHICH IS SO GOOD! Would come back just for this) and one mango cake, which was also so good, tasting like a gummy. Overall, this place is presentable, and also surprisingly affordable for what you get. I would come back here for a special occasion.“
“This place is a gem, I am so glad to have finally tried their food. There are lots of scrumptious options to choose from and right when I think I've made up my mind on what to get I spot the daily specials board. Mind you I did get in late for dinner so they were mostly sold out of their specials but I did not leave disappointed. The staff is friendly and very attentive, they make you feel like family. The chili is DELICIOUS! I loved it, I even took a pint of it home. Their poke is good, it was marinated with sesame oil and green onions. I also ordered a bento box and the somen salad and brocolli medley were the best parts. Overall a solid place to have a satisfying meal.“
“If you are looking for amazing atmosphere, excellent service, location and excellent food, this place is for you. It been our favorite place consistently for 2 years and is 10 out if 10.Try their lobster baked roll and these will blow you away. Today we also tried no rice sushi wrapped in cucumber and these are amazing for calorie conscious people. They are delicious!“
“They're this small mom and pop shop and it's really just so so cute! She's super friendly and sweet (i believe its the owner?)I wasnt that hungry but got one roll, and omg it was delicious.I def am coming back here- and knowing it's a small shop, it makes me wanna support even more.its a to go place tho i think? but just take it, walk down to the beach and have sushi by the beach. in the sand. 10/10“
“We've been coming here for many years. The go-to order for us is the Ox-tongue, Slightly Salted with Green Onions. Other good choices are the Skirt Steak, Liver, Garlic. Be warned it does tend to get smokey inside, so you'll come out smelling like bbq. Plenty of parking in the lot. Reservations help on weekends.“
“An interesting cafe location inside a bowling alley, but it gives you that homey island life like you would find in Hawaii. We ordered a bunch of dishes to try and test out the authenticity and I must say they are all legit. Their Misoyaki Butterfish has a nice texture, a bit of sweetness and flavor from Miso and a buttery taste. The Lau Lau (steamed pork wrapped inside Taro leaves) and Kim Chi fried rice with Portuguese sausages are savory and super flavorful to each bite. The Saimin (Hawaiian soft wheat egg noodles with char siu) is exactly how it should taste just like in Hawaii. We got a Loco Moco plate to go and it did not disappoint because the gravy has a nice texture and flavor to it. We will definitely be back in the near future to try other dishes.“
“TL;DR Solid (hand and cut) rolls, sashimi and overall experience, no complaints Story: Been here for the second time after about ~6 months. Both times with family, both times seated pretty promptly. Ambiance: Parking hasn't been a problem both times, but the lot only takes ~10 or less cars. Service was adequate as more folks filtered in (cater your expectations to a restaurant with a few waiters) Generally clean (restroom was fine), and I didn't feel uncomfortable with any of the decor/music/lack of anything Food: Definitely solid roll choices, they have other things like teriyaki but can only comment on the fish/rolls Soy paper and rice less options are appreciated I'm all for handrolls and these hand rolls are definitely hefty (Lobster hand roll/Vicky hand rolls were very solid) Rolls were good and fish was relatively fresh (no complaints) Value: Decent value considering the quality of the fish and that it's a sushi roll place, would definitely give this place a chance if you're in the mood for a solid roll (but shout out to those large hand rolls).“
“Jessica is awesome and her team As well, she was able to accommodate my family of 20guest on New Year's Day (1/1/24) on a last minute request. Would recommend. P.s food was delicious. And great show/entertainment provided with there fire stick throwing.“
“I'm a very big sushi lover, so I was recommended to try this place out. Oh boy, i was not let down!!!! Super friendly, great hospitality, good vibes, amazing sake, ?? ? ?? ??.... I recommend trying both the red dragon & regular dragon roll!?“
“A wonderful place with amazing food, we came here because the kids wanted sushi rolls while the grownups wanted Peruvian food, the selection was amazing the rolls are very creative with a Peruvian flair, we tried the Acivochado roll which by the name you can tell what it is, it was absolutely amazing and the other dishes were also great. Overall great food, fast and friendly service and definitely affordable. Highly recommended.“
“Service was very attentive. Different wait staff will take away plates and refill beverages. they come around often to see if anything is needed. Food is prepared very well and all are shareable sizes. Nice Ambiance and relaxed atmosphere. Overall a good experience and a solid place to dine.“
“Located in the Nijiya Plaza in Torrance, I stopped in for a late lunch since I wanted to try their Sliced Beef Don.Greeted and seated right away since I was dining alone, the place was still packed, which is a good sign.Ordered the large Amercian Sliced Beef Don (with egg) and waa impressed. It was tasty and filling, everything that I had hoped for. Looking at the menu, there are other Japanese style dishes that I would cpme back and try? 5 stars.“
“This place is great it you come at the right time. They open and close on random days..Recommended dishes:- Mixed baby scallop and shrimp tempura bowl-Black pork cutlet with starchy egg bowl-Hamburg steak w/ demi glace sauce combo-Fried OystersThe meal set comes with miso soup and pickledveggies.“
“Great Japanese bistro style Gardena restaurant in the Pacific Square shopping center that serves up Japanese Wafu style Hamburger steaks, Katsu, pilaf, and some good pasta dishes. Friend took me here since hes been going here for over 20 plus years and I was very impressed. Ordered the Kinoko (mushroom) Hamburger Steak with Demiglas Sauce which was tender and tasty, friends had Carbonara pasta with bacon and Seafood Pilaf. Dinner also came with bread and salad or soup, a filling meal. Would highly recommend, friendly service and great food??Parking: Lots of parking in front“
“This restaurant offers plenty of seating and welcomes walk-ins during weekdays, making it easy to visit on a whim. The place is vibrant and arguably the best spot in the Torrance area for authentic Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices. I had the Shirasu Ikura Don, Roast Beef Don, a seafood bowl, and curry. Although primarily a sake bar, it serves substantial meals that are highly recommendable. A must-visit for anyone craving genuine Japanese flavors!“
“Dining room is still closed. CASH ONLY. The Best Teriyaki place. Prices remain very consistent, even with every one else going up.Parking: About a dozen spots.Wheelchair accessibility: Everything is ground level. Handicapped parking is very close to building.“
“We do recommend using the yelp waitlist for this restaurant. This allowed us to get seated immediately. The service food and vibes are all well here!We got a total of 4 things:Jalapeño Bombs- great appetizers although some pieces were spicier than others.Lomita Roll- this was our favorite roll, it had a good mix of crunch and soft on the roll.King Kong Roll - this one was also good but lots of creamy texture, if you don’t like creamy texture I would recommend another rollCali Tempura Roll- this one was a safe bet roll and really good to get!All this and glass of water + sprite came out to $60~ which isn’t bad for pretty great sushi!“
“I randomly stopped in here to grab some take out. They were only going to be open for another 20 mins. They greeted me with smiles even though they were about to close. While waiting for my take out I noticed just how vibrant the environment was. And it all centered on the two main chefs at the front that night they were very energetic and full of laughs and smiles with the other customers. I will definitely try to come here more if my work schedule lets me.“
“Everyone at the table agreed this was some of the best sushi we had ever had! In addition to the excellent food, the service was outstanding. Even though the restaurant was very busy, some of our starters came out so fast, which was satisfying because we were all very hungry! I really appreciated that the waiter helped us pick our dishes and decide how much to order for the table. The experience from start to finish was five stars, thank you for having us!“
“Been here twice for dinner and once for lunch within a few weeks.Lunch specials are a bargain. For dinner, am a fan of their:Hybrid RollShogun Warrior RollSeared Ono Roll was just okay, probably won’t order again; not bad but not as wonderful as I had hoped. Not a fan of their crab rolls—too much mayonnaise for my taste.“
“Our family unanimously savored the finest teriyaki, flawlessly prepared chicken and beef paired with perfect rice. The to-go packaging was meticulous, including all essential condiments. I highly recommend experiencing it yourself; each dish is cooked to order. Opt for online ordering to skip the wait and relish a culinary delight!“
“Old school nostalgia in a box. Take out and cash only, phone orders preferred. Lucky i went on a weekday on my last trip to Gardena and ordered up a 10 piece sushi box with the popular items walking up, the lady at the counter handpicked them for me ?No joke, this family owned business has been around since 1962. The California roll is straight bussin. Fresh avos and real shrimp used. Dunno how much longer theyll be around but im happy i got to eat here again 5 stars?Parking: Parking on street or in the back of the building.“
“Sushi was excellent, service was top-notch, staff was friendly. Only thing I would say knocked it down a rating was the calamari appetizer could have used a bit more flavor but I am being very picky. Still finished the whole thing! Not from the area but if I come back, I would go back here. They played electronic music, which I personally love, but can see how some folks may not like the vibe because of the music.“
“If you have good taste in katsu then this is the place for you. If you don't then byeeeee. I love this place because it reminds me of this famous spot in Tokyo, called Butagumi. Both of them share this premium flaky crispy batter on the outside which I love. I know most katsu uses a thicker more dense batter but I prefer this. I will DEFINITELY be returning. If I had to describe how the batter is, it almost looks like bonito flakes were fried on it, but that's a good thing with the flakiness. The katsu does take a little bit of time to make as I'm under the impression it's fresh but in my opinion worth the wait. You can always go shopping in Tokyo Central for a little or order a snack at one of the other food places. This location is inside the Tokyo Central and to the right of the entrance. Parking: free lotSeating: indoor table cafeteria styleWifi: noPayment: card or tapVibe: food court diningDress code: casual. But be warned your clothes will smell like fried food after you leave.“
“Tried out the pork buns at their food stand during the 626 Night Market at OC Fairgrounds and fell in love!THE FOOD ELABORATION. - Pork Bao | Fluffy, slightly sweet, steamed bun with flavorful shredded pork and shiitake mushrooms inside. Recommend trying this out. - Melty Bao with Pork | Steamed bun with shredded pork and shiitake mushroom inside. It's then cut in half with cheese slapped on each open side and melted on the grill. Absolutely, mind blowing delicious. All steamed buns should be made like this. Highly recommend... and buy one for me. Please and thank you. THE VIBE EVOCATION. Fair vibes. They have a bright red sign you can't miss. There's a grill next to their stand so you can watch as they melt cheese onto the steamed bun. The staff were friendly and helpful as they navigated me through the menu. THE PARKING AFFAIR.As I mentioned, we tried Nikuman-Ya at the 626 Night Market on the OC Fairgrounds, so parking pertains to that location. Arrive early to get a spot close to the entrance. How early is early? About 15-20 min before the 4PM opening. Parking is $12. THE RETURN QUANDARY. Yes. It's worth the drive, the wait, and the money.“
“I came here to order takeout. Miku greeted me and took my order promptly. She was friendly and personable. My food was packed well for travel. This was the first time I ordered takeout. Food was delicious as expected and a nice variety of tempura.“
“Details... there are many Sushi spots but Japonica has someone experimenting. The Soy Sauce on the table is an example of this. This option of a Smokey flavor on some dishes gives a different complexity than normal Soy Sauce. Then Dessert.... try the Mochi Strawberry ? I would return just for this reason. Then Service.... fast during Happy Hour and attentive. Japonica for me continues to be on my top 5 places to try in Los Angeles. I can go on but I have to finish my dessert.“
“Definitely comfort food. Excellent price for the amount of food that you get. Got the Teri Special that came with such variety! As long as you're not expecting gourmet food you will not be disappointed. Will be coming back! Very friendly staff. Not big enough for sit down so recommend take out.“
“In conjunction with the delicious food, I wanted to make a comment about the employees. All of the workers are so kind and courteous. They always make each take-out visit so pleasant.Parking: The parking lot is spacious.Kid-friendliness: Yes.Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, they have tables for people in wheelchairs.“
“When I first walked in I was a little leary as there were only a couple of tables with people at them. My opinion quickly changed as the flavor of the food and the service was really good. This is a little hole in the wall place but I would definitely go back and recommend it.“
“First time trying this place after moving to the neighborhood during the pandemic. We ordered the miso soup, toro sashimi, blue crab roll, rainbow roll, crunchy rice and tuna, and the nigiri sampler they had - all were top notch. The menu is simple and the chefs focus on the quality and execution.Service was great, waitress was always checking in.When you step in you instantly notice that you stepped into a place from the 90's, somewhat nostalgic. Place is small and somewhat intimate giving all diners visual of the prep which is good. All in all will def be back.“
