“Little mom and pop shop. Serves up some awesome Black Garlic Ramen and Tempura.

Tempura with light batter, crispy and crunchy. Just perfect.

Grilled whole squid was a little over cooked and tougher than my preference.

Ramen noodles was al dente, tonkatsu broth was flavorful and not overly salty like most places.

Servers was surprisingly nice, especially in a crowd Asian joint.

Complimentary tint portion of Edamame and Sorbet was refreshing.“

“This is my 3rd omakase experience (once in Japan) and each has been different but all wonderful. Tancho is a small restaurant hidden in a shopping plaza in Castro Valley where there’s plenty of parking in the evenings. The Maple Bar seats seven and worth the extra money as you get to see Chef Jason prepare each delicacy and you get a couple extra courses that you don’t get sitting at the table (behind the bar). A party of four with a bottle of Dessai 23 ran us a little over $1k. It’s a great place to go for an anniversary or birthday. We’ll be back soon 😊“

“I love Angry Fish. I've been coming here since the day it opened. The food is always awesome! I love the oysters ($1.50) delicious! Must have apps Spicy Garlic Edamame & the Angry Crush appetizer. Also they have many amazing specialty rolls but by far my favorite is the Angry Mermaid. Oh my gosh it's like an explosion of flavors & it brings me JOY! LOL! The staff is super sweet especially the managers Vincent and Jackie they are identical twins, you will never tell them apart... I don't care how many years you been going there LOL. And Michael he's a sweetheart and always treats us like vip. But I think they treat everyone like VIP? it's a special place. The owner puts heart and soul into the food he's serving and I appreciate that. I will never stop going there.

“Good quality sushi, and sashimi. Already tastes good without wasabi and soy sauce. Our server was excellent. The restaurant is small, only good for group up to 4 people. The only thing I didn't like is they provided the bill to you after you finished your meal. It made me feel that they want us to leave now. If they have customers waiting, I understand that, but they are not busy at that time.“

“Wow - what a special place! The ambiance, atmosphere, service, and attention to detail crafted in each course is perfection. The sushi chef is so talented and does an excellent job at pacing each course / nigiri bites. The fish is mostly imported from Japan with a few pieces from the PNW. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun elevated sushi experience. Definitely worth the splurge in my opinion! Can't wait to go back again soon.“

“The sushi here is seriously good - fresh ingredients, creative rolls you won’t find anywhere else. The Fuji Roll? Absolutely delicious. Prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly, even if the vibe inside feels a bit cramped and could use a deeper clean. It’s a small spot, so I’d recommend takeout or delivery over dining in. For the quality of food though, it’s worth it.“

“My partner and I live closeby, been to a lot of sushi restaurants but this has got to be one of the best ones. Don’t let the slow traffic fool you, this place is a hidden gem for us. As much as we want to tell our friends about it, we don’t want them to discover this place and make it busy.

We usually order the polo bowl, karaage, veggie caterpillar roll, chicken bento, and ocean roll.

Great date place, great pickup for eating at home. Highly recommend. Also Jeanette is really nice :)“

“Been a long time since I dined here and forgot how good everything was. From the garlic edamame to the variety of rolls we tried...all were delicious! They have a smaller, but nice patio for outdoor seating.



Parking: Dinner time is also workout time for the gym next door...so parking can be a little tough.“

“Great place with delicious food and a nice interior. There weren’t many people (lunchtime), and only a few tables were occupied. We had a reservation, but for some reason, we still had to wait about 20 minutes while our table sat empty—kind of strange. Other than that, everything was great!“

“The oakland hill roll was surprisingly good. We mostly ordered bento. One was shrimp tempura and katsu bento. We came here to celebrate a birthday for a party of 8 and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They even let us bring cakes and they also helped us light the candle on it. It was a sunny and hot day and we were surprised that they didn't have an AC but the customer service is very good. Will definitely come back.

“I tried their Poki Bowl and was very happy with it. The ingredients were very fresh and the portions were big. The one thing I really loved about this place was the friendly service. They lady taking my order was a bundle of happiness. I will definitely be going back here again.“

“I wouldn't change a thing. Poke bowl was generous and delicious. They made sure to let me know that I could add more ingredients than I asked for. Utensils came with a toothpick for the seaweed teeth. 10/10

Parking: Small parking lot that is shared with multiple stores in the strip mall. Parking will be difficult during peak hours. There is off street parking nearby.“

“Stopped by for lunch at 2pm and plenty of seating inside. I used the self order kiosk on the table, which made ordering a breeze. The sushi rolls came out in about 8-10 minutes and they were huge rolls.

I typically eat two, but I coule barely finish these. They were incredibly filling and each roll was less than $12, which is a great deal in 2024. Service was excellentand I really enjoyed the meal. I get work done on my car across the street often, so i'll be stopping by whenever i'm in the area from now on.

Parking: It seems like there are about 12 or so spots, but also plenty of parjing along E.14th in front of the restaurant, as well as the side street which crosses it.

“Rather expensive sushi with indoor seating as well as a large backyard patio. The omakase selections (chefs choice) are great, go for that and savor it. The rest of the menu is pretty standard for the price. Service is ok, can be slow when it's busy - just be aggressive about waving down the server.

Parking: Park on side streets, but don't leave visible stuff in your car. I've seen a lot of "Oakland diamonds" on the street at times.“

“I hardly ever leave reviews but I stopped by here today for my second time and I have to say this will be my go to when I'm passing through hayward. I absolutely love their bento boxes I normally don't ever get beef teriyaki but this place did not disappoint. The portion sizes are really big compared to most places I've gone to plus you can't beat the prices super reasonable. The fish was super fresh especially the tuna. Even my toddler loved it. Thank you again for serving us we will be back again.“
