“Well hidden gem in the heart of Alameda, Utzutzu offers a culinary journey like no other with its exquisite 8-course Japanese dining experience. Each dish is a masterpiece, blending the freshest ingredients with skilled craftsmanship. From delicate sashimi to innovative rolls, the flavors harmonize in a symphony of taste. Impeccable presentation and attentive service elevate the dining experience, making this a haven for sushi enthusiasts seeking a refined gastronomic adventure.“
“First time trying this location BUT it felt very familiar since the interior was similar to the Oakland location. The nigiri combo also started at $25 for 7 pieces with the options to pick more expensive fish. Scallops and toro are available for no additional cost here as well. Honestly, a great addition to the area. Highly recommend their kurodai, aka black snapper, because they sear it very well.“
“Visited this local Lao spot on a friend’s recommendation and wow, it didn’t disappoint! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was cozy and welcoming - exactly what you’d want from a neighborhood gem. The service was on point too; our server was super friendly, gave us great recommendations, and really knew their stuff. Now, let’s talk food because that’s the real star here. I went for the Pad Kee Mao, and it was absolutely delicious - spicy, flavorful, and just packed with all the good stuff. But the unexpected highlight? Their oysters! Affordable, fresh, and just so tasty, they were a total game-changer for me. It’s not often you find such quality at those prices.Overall, this place is a must-visit if you’re in the mood for some authentic Lao cuisine or just in search of a solid dining experience. Great food, great prices, and great service. I’ll definitely be back!“
“One of the best sushi places in the bay! You'd never guess there'd be an omakase restaurant like this in this shopping center, but they're punching way above their weight class. The service is incredible, and the food is delicious! I feel like the texture of the sushi really sets it apart from even other higher end sushi restaurants. This place is a hidden gem!“
“Everything here was great! Ordered baked sushi and some steak sushi for happy hour. My friend ordered chirashi and I can tell you: I regret not ordering the same thing because it looks SO GOOD T_T if I were to go there again next time, I'll surely order chirashi. It was a small restaurant, but sweet and nicely arranged. It was loud though, so be ready to speak loudly! The service was pretty quick for what they are: it's crowded so takes some time to order and get our food, but all in all it's worth to have another visit.“
“Came here for the first time with my husband and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish! It was very fresh and sashimi portions were large and nigiri well made. The restaurant is really small and seems family owned and the chef and staff are all very nice and welcoming. Food was definitely authentic Japanese and the sushi/sashimi is worth the quality you are getting. I will definitely be back to try other items on their menu. Don't pass on this small hidden gem and grab some fresh sashimi/nigiri“
“Great food, clean and nice place and warm staff. I ordered it for lunch on door dash and I liked it so much that I brought my kids for dine in the next day. The steak, curry noodle soup, shrimp plate, their salad and the peanut butter dressing were amazing. The plates are decent size and heartily.“
“This is a great sushi spot to stop by if you're in the mood for fresh fish whether it's in the form of sashimi or hand rolls or sushi. We frequent this sushi restaurant for the great service and food. Even when the restaurant gets busy, the staff still tries their hardest to attend to each table in a timely manner. We highly appreciate it!“
“I called and ordered a roll to go-the Storm roll. It was delicious, and the finest quality and freshness! The owners were there, and the place looks extremely cute inside and also has outside seating. I had never been here before, but will be coming back soon. Very good sushi!“
“Kid-friendliness: Very kid-friendly in that the staff is so sweet to the kids and thoughtful. Like one employee helped show us where the bathroom was just because he headers me trying to get my 5yo to go, and of course he went faster with the ushering… They have the kid chopstick helpers AND provide warm/cool hand towels upon seating!!!“
“Cutest Japanese restaurant with tatami style seating in San Leandro! Be sure to stop by and take advantage of their Happy Hour because things are a bit pricey here!*Kaisen Oyster Shots*Kushiyaki - Kawa - Chicken Skin*Kushiyaki - Buta Kashira (Pork Cheek)*Lion King Roll*Salmon Skin Hand Roll*Salmon Avocado Hand Roll*California Real Crab Hand Roll*Spicy Scallop Maki Roll“
“I was craving sushi so I came to naked fish. I ordered two rolls, a philadelphia roll (you know a familiar favorite, it was excellent) and a Jackson roll (super duper delicious). They were both so good and fresh! I had to order a third which was the iron Man roll. Excellent excellent excellent. Service is spectacular. Super nice people, super chill atmosphere. Nice contemporary art. feels like a homie place. I will be back soon to try out the kitchen foods!“
“Our party of 19 ate here the night after Christmas. Yo's on Hartz is such a nice and intimate place to eat. The manager, Evelyn, made sure our large party was well taken care of and gave excellent meal recommendations. Everyone enjoyed their food and cocktails. We look forward to dining here again!“
“Look at that fresh, PACKED & beautiful rainbow Chirashi plate . This new addition to Alameda is a must try. There’s Ramen, sushi, bento and boba here, something for everyone! The fish was fresh, they do not skimp on portions. The prices are stellar too. The ambiance is modern with beautiful Japanese touches and a tasteful art piece of the Golden Gate Bridge that somehow all fit together perfectly. Happy to see large parties, couples on a date (seemingly) and then a family came in with a small toddler, the waitress doesn’t skip a beat and brought out a night chair for the little (whom happily ate everything the parents fed her. They shared the same Donburi plate I did plus another roll.) What a great restaurant, I can’t wait to go back. There were so many other sushi choices on Park street, I’m glad I tried this one today. Please come support local and give this place a try next time you are in the area.Kid-friendliness: Has highchairs for the littles“
“Honestly, the food here is amazing! I've ordered multiple things from the menu and yet I have not been disappointed. My favorite rolls so far are the Kibo, Hartz, Salmon Skin hand roll and Isabel!! Isabel, Hartz & Salmon skin hand-roll are my top 3 favorites. For the appetizer, I really enjoy the garlic edamame!! If you're a garlic girl like I am, you should definitely give it a try. The gyozas and mixed tempura are a hit as well!! For rice plates, I really enjoy the chicken teriyaki. I usually never order chicken teriyaki at restaurants but oh man this one is soooo good. I really like the salad and pickled vegetables that come with it.“
“Stopped by on a Friday evening around 7:00 p.m. and the place was pretty empty. My party of five ordered three specialty rolls, two California rolls, some nigiri, along with a few appetizers to share, including mixed tempura, karaage, and hamachi kama. The food came out quickly. I enjoyed the freshness of the rolls and this ended up being the perfect amount of food. The karaage was a bit dry and the hamachi kama was slightly overcooked but otherwise, everything else was not bad. My friends and I noticed our waiter did a bit too much upselling for our liking, but I can't fault him to much for his hussle. If you're looking for a casual sushi spot, Tomsa delivers. Last things to note: there's plenty of off street parking in the shopping center and 20% auto gratuity was applied to our party of five.“
“On days I'm too lazy to make and bring lunch, takeout becomes a fun treat. As there are quite a few Japanese options in the area, this place came up as one I haven't tried before. Pick up for lunch was quick and simple, everything was bagged up very securely in a paper bag (folded and stapled shut as well). There is a parking structure across the ways, but parking outside isn't all too hard to find. Inside, there isn't too much seating available but that's what makes this place the ideal lunch pick up spot. The menu was a little simple than what I'm used to, but this seems nice for an easy simple lunch. I ordered a teriyaki chicken and beef combo (that comes with edamame and a coleslaw like salad). It was a good sized portion for the price, it's a bit more than 1 meal for me (1 meal and an afternoon snack to finish up). I did order medium rare for the beef, but it was more towards medium well - but wasn't all too overcook. I have to emphasize this is a lighter taste of a meal as the teriyaki sauce was very light on the meats, mostly just soaked into the rice nicely. The chicken has a nice sear and wasn't dry even after walk back to the office. It's not what I typically expect from a bento box meal, but I just can't stop saying how much I like the simplicity of it (light flavors of a hearty meal, makes my tummy happy when I don't feel like something hearty/greasy/cheesy).The edamame was a little salty and soft to me. As for the coleslaw, vinegary cabbage mix- it was perfect to add to a bite of meat and rice or on it's own as a bit... I'd like a container of this alone to snack on. I also have to note that the rice was really nice, not too soft but enough with the sauce soaked in for a good bite.Final Thoughts: Portion and price wise - I'm definitely ordering again for lunch; feels like a nice healthy, hearty meal.“
“Wonderful little hole in the wall restaurant. I will definitely eat there when I'm in town. The spicy miso base was everything you would want in a bowl of ramen. In-house made sushi was great. I would certainly recommend this place if you in the mood for a great bowl of ramen.“
“I travel all over California from my work. And so I order from mini different restaurants...I ordered from them today and I got a roll that they didn't mention There was tempora in it. I have a severe gluten allergy and so I took it back. They immediately fixed it without question and made it without tempora. I really appreciate that they did it. They were very helpful and very kind to me. The food was excellent! The service was great! I highly recommend them.“
“O'Sushi in Newark has always held a special place in my heart when it comes to sushi delights. The range of flavors and the meticulous presentation always lure me in. Among their expansive menu, two rolls stand out for me: the Seattle Roll, packed with rich, cooked salmon complemented by creamy avocado, and the M&M roll. The latter, adorned with spicy mayo, adds that fiery touch that gives each bite an unforgettable zest. However, the experience goes beyond just the food. Like many others, I've faced challenges that deter me from a complete dine-in experience. The last time I decided to visit, I was met with the sad sight of homeless individuals seeking refuge near the entrance. Such a scene tugs at one's heartstrings, making one wish for better facilities and care for them in the city of Newark.Parking, another concern, often turns out to be a mini adventure. The limited spaces in their lot force me to park farther away, adding a bit of a walk to the experience. While the food remains unparalleled, I genuinely hope that Newark takes steps to improve the overall ambiance around businesses, ensuring comfort for all its residents and visitors.“
“I just discovered this amazing place and I am in love with it. The food is delicious and satisfying. The restaurant itself is amazing with lots of indoor and outdoor seating, a full cocktail bar, and a very large sushi bar. Please go check it out cuz it is cool and a great find in Castro valley, California.“
“Under new management! Amazing service, felt so welcome. Some of the freshest sashimi I've ever had. Also they make home made ice cream in house you can take to go. The best I've ever had try the miso caramel! Can't wait to come back“
“Pleasantly surprised! For whatever reason I had never tried Akira before. I'm so glad I finally have. I met up with a couple of friends and we enjoyed drinks and shared a bunch of sushi. There are lots of options on the menu and everything we tried was tasty and super fresh! We were chatting so much that we closed the place down. This might seem random, but I was so impressed by the extensive cleaning they did at the end of the night. This alone will have me frequenting Akira from now on.“
“OMGOOODNESS, Delicious food! I got a poke bowl and let me tell you! I enjoyed every single bite to the end. The bowl was so packed, it was a lot more than I even expected. The price is definitely worth it and looking at the menu makes me want to go back because those prices were definitely calling my name. Service was so fast and she did a really good job with our bowls, just look how delicious they came out! Will definitely be coming back to try everything else.“
“We all enjoyed our dinners here. I'm not a raw fish fan so I had the tonkatsu, which was excellent. I prefer it served over a mound of shredded cabbage but it was very good, lean and pounded thin. The salad and miso soup were great. My dinner companions had a variety of sashimi and other sushi and seemed to enjoy them quite a lot. We will be back!“
“The food is tasty and spicy, which I like, I ordered the Mongolian beef. It wasn't clear or stated on the order platform that this was just the Mongolian Beef. Apparently it does not come with rice which is very disappointing. It should be clear on the order app that this doesn't come with rice. This is first time I didn't get rice with my Chinese meal.“
“TL;DR - Excellent selection of quality fish.Hashi Gawa is a very good "middle-tier" sushi restaurant. They don't serve mediocre sashimi and huge sushi rolls like lower-tier restaurants that cater to the masses. And they don't provide a fine dining omakase experience. What you will get is excellent fish in a casual setting with reasonable prices. We came on a Saturday as soon as they opened to ensure us a table. My wife and I ordered their "Omakase" 10-piece special. Please note that it's not a true omakase experience. It is 10 nigri pieces (sashimi option also available) served all at once. The kind waitress provided all the types of fish, but it was hard to remember the order so I wasn't sure which piece was which towards the end. You will have a selection such as snapper, butterfish, salmon, salmon belly, otoro, chu-toro, ocean trout, scallop, amaebi, etc. We also ordered some extra single pieces to make sure we both had our favorites. One negative was each piece was glazed with a light soy sauce that I would have preferred not to have. The sauce masked the taste of the fish. Next time I'll ask if they can hold the sauce.Overall, I was very happy with our meal. I will go back for sure.“
“Usually we have a go to spot for sushi, (JUDOKU) but this is another! Fuji summer is really really great! We usually get the special rolls and special is an understatement they are wonderful. We had ordered a bit too much food at this time but it was ok my husband nearly ate all of it without any complaints. The octopus balls are his favorite appetizer. I really enjoyed the dragon roll, unagi rolls are my fav! The pink lady roll is incredible and we accidentally ordered the teriyaki chicken skewers but by far an incredible mistake so yummy! This lunch was by far an excellent experience and fuji summer is a great restaurant to visit no matter what season lol. On our next trip we will try the ramen and bento bowls. And definitely eat the octopus balls. The service was great our waiter was super nice even when we We ate faster than we took pictures. Great local spot in Oakland highly recommend if you in piedmont area!“
“It's a very popular place in Fremont, love their sushi and their special rolls. The staff are nice and friendly but unfortunately, it's very busy at weekends and ordering food for pickup takes at least an hour since they don't have enough staff for all the orders.I recommend Dragon, Crazy and Tokyo rolls“
“I think we've been coming to this place for the better part of a decade and just started again (after a covid break). We were probably going here every other week before covid. It's still the same place with the wonderful hostess. It's fun for adults and kids to gather around the boat carousel and pick off your meal as it floats by. Or order from the hostess or the sushi chef behind the counter. It is a relaxed atmosphere, oftentimes with relevant sports on the telelvisions. The sushi is consistently good to great and reasonably priced. I'm really happy we we've re-established the tradition and look forward to many future visits...“
“Ok, let me start by saying the food here is amazing. I've been twice, and both times I got the Special Keisen Don and I was really impressed by the selection of fish and seafood. Everything was so fresh and included yummy specialty items such as hotate, ikura, nishin, fatty tuna, etc. The food is so good that I believe this place deserves better service. The second time I went, there was only one front of house staff who briefly greeted, served us, and seemed to also be preparing the food as well as bussing tables. We ordered our food from a QR code on the table, and it was a bit confusing because all of the orders from the table are combined together on one check. I believe there should be an option for separate checks. It's nice to have the option to order though QR, but honestly nothing really beats old fashioned good service, and this place could really blow up if the service was as good as the food is. I'll be returning for the the food though as long as the quality remains consistent.“
“I love coming here. The food is fantastic; the servers are knowledge, friendly, and helpful for novices of sushi, and the atmosphere gives an air of privacy and intimacy to the meals. While the food does come at a substantially higher cost than fast food, every penny is worth it.“
“So good! Second time here. Rolls are large and very fresh! Love the Double Sake salmon roll.Everyone seemed to be ordering the Dragon roll (shrimp tempura, avocado, jalapeño, eel, …) - waitress said it is the most popular. Definitely coming back soon to try that one soon“
“Came here for lunch on Saturday and there was no line. It's a pretty small place, so i imagine there would be some lines if it was busy. There is a small parking lot right next door which is awesome. We were helped when we walked into the restaurant. We ordered a mixed tempura, chirashi don and a 8 piece nigiri with a California roll (sushi combo). Everything came out pretty quickly. The chirashi bowl came with a bowl of ice on the bottom which is very different but awesome. The sashimi was sliced nice and thin and was very fresh as well. The mixed tempura had the cutest little basket. The tempura was fried perfectly. The sushi combo with 8 piece nigiris sun California roll is a pretty good deal. The nigiri was a good size. Overall everything was great.“
“I wouldn't change a thing. Poke bowl was generous and delicious. They made sure to let me know that I could add more ingredients than I asked for. Utensils came with a toothpick for the seaweed teeth. 10/10Dietary restrictions: I have food pollen syndrome. I was still able to get a multitude of veggies, which is rare.“
“One of my favorite Japanese spots in Hayward. Kinda hidden on a side street.I love that they let me order salmon sashimi in the bento box, and I can have it with salmon teriyaki for even more salmon! Very tasty. They've got a double salmon sushi roll that my 7yo daughter loves, because I've apparently gotten her hooked on eating too much salmon as well haha. My sushi-disliking husband doesn't mind coming here either because they've got a variety of other things for him, like beef teriyaki and udon bowls. The service is pretty minimal, but not unfriendly. The server just tends to disappear and is pretty quiet. They're part of the Together For Hayward program, so if you can snag one of the limited-time deals on those gift certificates, the already low prices here are even better.“
“This place was a surprising find!We moved recently and had never been here until family of ours visited. The sashimi, rolls, and chicken kaarage were all yummy. My family loved the tempura and udon noodles too. The pricing is definitely on the cheaper and was super good. They also have an all day 'happy hour' that was more than reasonable.I've had lots of great sushi and sashimi from socal and was super impressed with this spot.9/10Great restaurant<3“
“This is a true neighborhood gem. It's hands down the most reliably fresh and affordable sushi restaurant I've found in Oakland. The ambiance is quaint, the service is quick, and the fish is delectable. The agadashi tofu is the best I've ever had! It has the essence of ginger!“
“One of my go to local Japanese restaurants. Mainly because of their Godzilla roll. I don't think I've had or seen Godzilla rolls at other Japanese restaurants and the one here is quite good. The sashimi pieces are thick. However, their rolls are on average smaller than many Japanese restaurant I've been to. The service is good. I also really like their decoration.“
“Quiet night with all the trick or treaters about and, I guess, no one gives out sushi on Halloween. Their loss, my win-- I had the sushi bar to myself and the full attention of a very talented and friendly sushi chef. I chose some things (nigiri, rolls) and all was fresh, super tasty, well prepared and nice portions. The miso soup was tasty but lava hot! I also asked for and enjoyed some recommendations by the chef and will definitely be back for more!“
“Hands down best bento box place! Most of the places I've been to, their chicken would be super dry or they don't give enough sauce. I've been going here for years and ever time I get a bento box it doesn't disappoint. Their salad and noodles ARE THEY BEST (although some of my friends haven't been big fans), I personally love it! Service was quick, you just order and sit down and when your food is ready they'll let you know. The inside may not look the best or look the cleanest, but the bento boxes are amazing!“
“Good was YUMMY! I was eyeing the seared tuna salad... but that tuna tataki had the "main event" ingredients I was craving. Added a small green salad to create the effect I was looking for. Also had the soft shell crab. Two apps and a side made the perfect indulgent experience I was looking for.Plus my homie, the Rottweiler puppy, got to hang with me in the outdoor area too!“
“A ´Must’ every time I visit my family in California. It beats any Sushi I ever tasted. The food and atmosphere is totally authentic reminding me of a tiny ´hole in the wall’ eatery I happened to pop into in the 60’s in Kobe, Japan. Service is excellent and extremely courteous. Always a delectable and memorable experience. A Must Visit place! You won’t be sorry!“
“I keep coming back to Satomi when craving sea food. My experience has been great and consistent. I’m please with the freshness and quality of fish served here. I appreciate the effort behind preparing these delicacy’s. My experience is inspired by the Thornton Location in Fremont Ca.“
“I hesitate to really share about this place because it is such a gem. It's a great little unassuming neighborhood place. I feel like it is my treasure. It is always pristine and the food consistently really good. I get the bento box with salmon teriyaki. My kids key the nigiri and are always eat every bit . . . Even my daughter who is super particular“
“My party was the first one to arrive for dinner, so we didn’t have to wait to be seated.Food came out piping hot(fried stuff) and fresh(sushi), took about 10-15 mins for first round, and eventually got longer as there were more tables seated, normal stuff.Service was great, servers were attentive. Good ambiance, it was on a Cantonese playlist though haha.Definitely recommend getting the sashimis, tasted like it came straight from the ocean.“
“I tried the spicy chicken donburi. It was exceptional. I really liked the taste and the spice was perfect, anything less or more would have ruined it, they nailed it. Comes with miso soup which is good as well. Chicken was fresh and juicy. They did not include the soy sauce in my takeout, which was a disappointment, but don't forget to grab some on your way out.“
“Well balance diet. Lots of vegetables. 1scope of rice and No MSG in the food & soup. Meat is plenty. What else can you expect from a takeout. NO MSG is the BEST you can get these years. Lots of Asian run restaurants are using MSG, intensively.Way to go !!!!!!!!“
“Great atmosphere. We ordered gluten free. There was a little confusion in the beginning which was sorted out quickly.Friendly staff. Great service and food.Uni was not available today. I am definitely coming back to eat here. Great food for affordable priceParking: Easy“
“Oh fish is sensational. Not only is it a local favorite, it's affordable and high quality Japanese cuisine. I love their sushi, I feel like that's what they specialize in--there udon is also yummy. I haven't had their ramen yet but I'm definitely looking forward to trying it. The staff here is amazing, really nice and attentive. It's a small interior but they always accommodate with your group. Additionally, there's to-go orders readily available.“
