“Love Pacific Cookie Company they are truly the best cookies in town other than my homemade cookies I make. The renovations that they have done to the store on pacific garden mall which is the flagship store are beautiful. I just love the colors and it just brightens up the place. You can't go wrong with any of the cookies. My favorite is still just the chocolate chip, but the almond joe and dr.midnight are all in my top 3 rotations every time I go. I also like that they still have bags of days olds that you can purchase for a discounted rate and trust me they are just as good a day or so later. All you have to do is wrap them in a wet paper towel and put them I. The microwave for about 15-20 seconds and they are perfect.“

Lox Deluxe

“Best drip coffee outside of my house hands down. Shook me! Dark and deep, not bitter or acidic. Wow ?!Great bagels, split the Deluxe Lox and it was perfect. Tomatoes look like they grew them on the spot, ripe and juicy. Everything bagel is my jam.Bags of day old bagels up for grabs but you better get there early cause people were walking out the door with their arms full.Very ample fish and cream cheese to bagel ratios. ??Full and satisfied but looking forward to my next visit.“

“Their tamales are absolutely delicious and a decent price. Moist and savory, lots of meat inside. The green chicken tamales are especially good. Service was fast, employees speak both Spanish and English. Lots of Mexican snacks and ingredients as well typically harder to find in Santa Cruz. Easy going environment.“

Pecan Pie

“This review is only for the Pecan Pie which is incredibly delicious. We bought the smaller one as we've never tried their Pecan Pie. We will definitely be buying the regular size soon. The Pecan Pie is a 2023 winner at the National Pie Championships! We've eaten several types of their pies in the past and they're all delicious. The Cherry Pie, Pumpkin Pie and The Berry Bomb were all 2023 winners in their divisions. You can order the pies online or at many Farmers Markets or some grocery stores. I would highly recommend giving them a try.“

“The only thing we actually buy there are cornmeal blueberry scones which are absolutely fabulous. The small mall of the northern side of Santa Cruz and generally the patrons are nice. Staff sees three fast and efficient and getting the awful long lines through service and paid “

Black China Bakery Bakery • $$
216 Fern St b, Santa Cruz

“As a vegan, finding a truly delicious birthday cake is tough to find. But Black China Bakery outdid themselves! My husband ordered the vegan raspberry chocolate cake for my 64th and it's the best I've had in a long time. Kaitlin outdid herself with the decorating as well. As a long time vegan cook and baker, I'm not sure how she manages such a delicious frosting, but it was divine. I wouldn't hesitate to order from Black China Bakery. They were kind, accommodating to my husband's requests and all around a business that deserves our support.“

Sorbet

“Both the service and the ice cream flavors were so on point. It was such a warm day and hot inside this place, but the women working were SO friendly and kind and gave us samples of everything. The Turkish coffee is sublime, and the mint chip was really good too. My husband had scoops of both. I enjoyed a chocolate milkshake with the dark chocolate ice cream. Would definitely go back!“

Pacific Cookie Company Bakery • $
303 Potrero St STE 40A, Santa Cruz

“I've loved these cookies since I was a student at UCSC in the late 80s. Every time I visit Santa Cruz, I make a beeline to their store for the "peanut butter w/chocolate chips" cookies. I close my eyes and savor the peanut buttery goodness and I'm transported back to 1987. The cookies are EXACTLY THE SAME. In a world where things constantly change, Pacific Cookie Co. has remained remarkably consistent throughout the 30 years of my going there. That cookie in my mouth is the closest thing to time travel I've ever experienced. The perfect 1987 lunch starts with a vegetarian burrito at Tacos Moreno and then the Cookie for dessert. I invite you to grab those items to go, then drive over to West Cliff and chow down with that fabulous ocean view and cool breezes. Note: whether you get your cookies at the bakery location or retail store on Pacific, the cookies are equally delicious. You can get the broken or malformed ones at the bakery for a discount. Your mouth won't care if they are broken!“

Aunt Nettie's Kitchen Bakery • $
2100 Delaware Ave # D, Santa Cruz

“It can be rare to find in a grocery, but it's the BEST Hummus EVER! Really, if you prefer FRESH hummus that tastes like the genuine thing--garbanzos/chickpeas/ceci combined with good olive oil, tahini, lemon juice, parsley and garlic--this one wins a blue-ribbon. It's got a crunchy texture. It's more flavorful than those common hummuses that have preservatives and are thinned with other flavors. We found that Nettie's is even better than making our own homemade hummus. Bring it home and it'll quickly get gobbled up: no worries about an impending expiration date! This is our #1 spread for the best bagels around--from The Bagelry (their hummus wins a red-ribbon for also being great, but it's oilier). We recommend that when you find Nettie's hummus for the first time--sometimes New Leaf Market stocks it--buy it and try it!“
