“This is a really special restaurant. Their waiting staff is very attentive and deals quite well with children. They also go beyond with regulars in treating them as close friends. It’s quite unique and very special. I’ve also never had a meal here that wasn’t fantastic. I highly recommend any steak dish on the menu. The bread is real good as well. I recommend this restaurant for an upscale family gathering.“

“Best Açai bowl in San Diego!!! Not only does this place have the best tasting bowls, but they come in at the best value by far. They have the largest variety of toppings I have ever seen. When I walk in I feel like a kid in a candy shop, except I am an adult, and this is way better than candy. It is a make it your self custom style bar, and they always make the bowls so artistic and pretty. It is one of my favorite spots to bring friends to. Only a 5 minute walk from Fletcher’s Cove beach. The staff is always friendly. I come in so often, the owner Nick has my order memorized. Generous servings, always, served with a smile every time. I love this place. Even their plastic wares are compostable. I would give it 10/10 stars if Google would let me. If you’re looking for Açai, this is the spot. You won’t be disappointed!“

“The food is as good as it looks! I couldn’t believe it when my parents asked me if I wanted to go to a Revolutionary War tavern replica & museum near the beach in northern San Diego. Like, huh? But the building reminded me of growing up on the east coast, and the museum reminded me of how lucky we are to have this country & those who fought for it. I loved the cozy interior with brick and wood. My parents are regulars, so they know the server, and he was super nice. They have a great Old Fashioned, and we all got the Seafood Trio (mine with double cod). The fingerling potatoes were to die for. It was all delicious. Amazing Caesar salad, too. Definitely had leftovers. Excited to go back for their happy hour. Can’t wait to try wagyu sliders, mussels, and clam chowder. Seriously, it all sounds good. Definitely worth a trip! And you’ll be back to try it all 😁“

“This place is beautiful. A wonderful atmosphere and great decor, we had a great view with lunch! We had great drinks and our appetizer was basically a charcuterie board, which was good. A little mediocre for the price but it looked beautiful! I had the fish and chips which was melt in your mouth delicious and my fiance had the short rib pastrami sandwich and she said it was delicious. Overall a good view with good food!“

Let’s start with the firebird .. amazing sweet and spicy taste with big nice pickles to maintain the heat overall recommend this sandwich . “Every thing was very tasty , the home made pasta was delicious .. good service - authentic Italian choices. A couple of food issues could be addressed; the chicken substituted for the veal piccata was very dry and tough . The bread served before dinner was also dry and cold , not warm and crunchy. It was not the usual crusty warm Italian bread we are used to in good Italian restaurants , and they didn't not serve it with olive oil , salt / pepper, we had to request it . Also the olive oil would be good if it was seasoned with garlic or if a dry seasoning was offered to season it . A very easy option . We had to ask for the salt and pepper for the bland olive oil. Small things can make a big difference !“

“The food is quite good. Recently I’ve been disappointed with two things:

1) their removal of the Ahi Salad, one of my favorites which has been replaced by the Mediterranean Salad (just so-so)

2) the increase in prices since I first started dining here.

Otherwise, it’s a great spot for a burger and brew, to take the family or catch the game. I suspect that its proximity to Legoland is why their prices are so high. You can find similar or higher quality food for more reasonable prices.

For example, any salad here (that includes a protein) is going to be $20-25 which seems really steep. They’re not particularly gourmet im a way that would justify that price.

Pretty much any of their appetizers are $15 or over. Likewise, all of their burgers are $20 or over besides their most basic pub burger which is $17. Steep!

You’re looking at easily spending $100 out the door for two people: drinks, mains and an app. There are a lot of places I can recommend within a 15 minute drive that would either cost less or be better.

Anyways, I do like Karl Strauss. The food is good, the staff is great, you won’t be disappointed but your wallet may hurt. This functionally puts them in the $30-50 pp. range when they should be in the 20-30. Just my .02

“Been coming here for years. As a local born and raised in Encinitas, there is no better restaurant for drinks and great food that has withstood the times. As for the service from the staff it has always been exceptional. Most recently Saul has always taken care of me with recommendations on drinks and food. “Haven't been here in years! Met up with friends for dinner on a Saturday evening and there were lots of open tables on their patio. All the tables against the Japanese pond were reserved.

I ordered the Salmon and quinoa dish and it was pretty good. The portion was a good size. We also ordered the carne asada fries appetizer and I really liked that one too. We don't recommend the Pastrami plate though. It was fatty and falling apart. But the side salad substitution for fries was delicious.

Forgot our server's name but he was great. I couldn't decide on a couple of beers and he offered to give me samples before I ordered. He also took great care of us all evening.“

“The happy hour is 1000% worth it. The shredded beef slides were filled with a good portion of protein and you can't beat the drink prices. Everything was great except the server consistently trying to close us out. We were a group of four girls catching up and couldn't help but feel she was trying to get us in and out. I would definitely go again, but if service is the same, I wouldn't recommend it to people trying to enjoy a relaxing, social outing.“
