“I almost don’t want to leave a review as this place is such a hidden gem. We got a dragon roll, chicken teriyaki, and a miso ramen.
We devoured the roll, it was incredibly fresh. The miso ramen was very flavorful and massive.
What really made our visit memorable was the spectacular customer service. We came in 30ish minutes before closing and not once did we feel rushed, the waiter was so welcoming. Must visit, you will not regret!“

“Great little hole in the wall poké place in an area where there's not a lot of options!
The portion sizes are great - we got a small bowl that was more than enough for 2 people to share. We got it with Ahi tuna, spicy crab, and salmon with their quinoa kale, brown rice, avocado, seaweed salad, edamame beans, and crispy onions. The sauce was spicy aioli and truffle aioli with a dash of sriracha added in for extra heat.
Overall the fish was very fresh and the flavors mixed well together to great a delicious experience! Staying at the nearby AC hotel, this was a brisk 3 minute walk on a drizzly night.
They also had mochi ice cream we didn't try at the time but perhaps next time!“

“This place offers delicious food coming out of an adorable (and clean) sushi spot, and has a positive, communicative staff.
I purchased the Half-Baked roll (to-go), which I suppose is their version of a Lion King roll, except that it doesn’t have the cucumber. It has avacado.
Notes: There was more than an adequate amount of wasabi and ginger with my order, which I appreciate. Their to-go presentation and takeout packaging overall is one the cleanest, and best, I’ve ever seen.
Thank you,
C Mars
10/30/24 update: i ordered a roughly $12 with tax salmon avocado roll after hitting the gym at 24hr van ness and it was delicious and refreshing, a bit lighter when I don’t want the spicy mayo sauce on the half-baked. ?“

“This is a really upscale place that only serves omakase for $250 per person. when you factor in tax and tip it comes to $350 per person. although the service and quality are very good, I have has this type of omakase in various places around the country and I think the price is way too much. I think it is worth $150 per person. the meal was great - I Just don't think it's worth the price. the Nigiri was excellent. wasn't a fan of the desert and several of the appetizers I didn't like either. the quality of the fish is amazing.“

“I've had better Sushi but this was absolutely high level. I had a select Chirashi Bowl and she had 8 pieces of chefs choice nigiri. We had tap water to drink and a tofu appetizer. $168 after tip. So I felt a bit shaken down. I was hoping it would be that ridiculous high level that you never forget. This was just high level but not full tilt world class.. parking was a PITA.. but it is everywhere pretty much. Not sure I'd return.. I'd look for a more traditional place in Japan Town next time.“

“Unassuming- soon to be addictive. So just about the best kept Secret on Union Street- I am sure to come back, again and again and it is just hiding in plain sight! restaurant. If you can't get to Japan try this- Excellent quality, unusual rolls and exceptionally fresh- crunchy and tasty. High quality. High end details. Like the chef and his no nonsense approach. One Wish- that they would include side of wasabi though with to-go orders.“

“A true gem in downtown SF! Came on a week night and was half full, with some takeouts here and there. May not need to make a reservation if weeknights. I was astounded by the variety of the sushi rolls, sashimi, and the appetizers. The octopus wasabi and agedashi tofu were fantastic, the octopus was very fresh I could eat a big bowl! I devoured my sashimi, sushi and roll set and wanted to come back for more!“

“We really liked this place! We were the only ones in here, with a window seat view to people watch. We got the cherry blossom roll, spicy rainbow roll, miso soup, chicken karaage, gyoza, endamame, and some nigiri (we were hungry lol). The cherry blossom was a bit plain in taste, but other than that everything was really good. The karaage was not to over fried, and the portions of fish were great.“

“After having this place saved on my list for a some time, I finally got a chance to visit Sushi Zone today.
We ordered the Castro, Toro Toro, Spicy Tuna rolls and a pair of blue fin tuna nigiris and everything was outstanding.
The service and ambience were also 10/10! This has probably become my favorite sushi in SF, we’ll be coming back many times!“

“It was our first wedding anniversary and had the best time here. The vibe, the chef, the service, and of course the food were top-notch. I would never forget this place and everybody including the chef was very respectful and kind to us. Arigato gozaimasu Chef Toshiaki Ono and Sushi Hashiri. It was an unforgettable night. Thank you so much for everything.“

“Two friends from out of town were visiting and wanted some west coast sushi! This place was so perfect. Quiet, cozy vibe on the inside with beautiful wooden tables. The sushi was incredible- two of us got the omakase and two of us got custom rolls. Both were so good and we ended up ordering more tuna/salmon belly for the table. Ben our server was hilarious and well. 10/10. We will be back!“

“My family has been dining here every couple weeks since it opened 3 years ago. The owner Paul always greets us and does some special things for the kids: salmon sashimi in bite sized pieces and steamed tofu. Our favorites are negima, the local halibut nigiri, agedashi tofu (I would argue best in the city), grilled butter fish, and okra. All washed down with Echigo lager and our favorite sake Drunken Whale. Highly recommend for a casual but delicious meal“

“We were in the back room and the lightning is horrible for a nice birthday room felt more like the cheap school cafeteria room, with a camera right on your food and the seats, omg those seats, we all left with sore butt cheeks . No pillows nothing just a hard wooden board . Table so big you cannot stretch your arms long enough to get the food from the person sitting on front of you. Next time I'll make sure we seat inside the restaurant and in one of their regular tables. Overall, Food is great really tasty and well prepared. I had one of the best butter fish sushi I ever had. Amazing Sake selection.“

“Love the water sushi boat carrousel, but very limited seating. Recommend coming at opening to avoid wait. Very close seating and narrow walk ways. Food is solid for verity and turn out. Can't be afraid to speak up for check, water, special rolls, etc.
Parking: 26 slots for sushi boat carousel“

“My sister took me here for my first time because I'm from out of town. The head sushi chef was a great character! He knew my sister and was very engaging and treated us to some wonderful selections. I would highly recommend this place. We sat at the bar. They could have been a little quicker on the sake ? but we were pretty quickly consuming it.“

“This has been my go to sushi spot since living in Snohomish for the past few years. Akisan is the main sushi master and he was always fun to talk too. All the staff is very friendly and attentive. The rolls are very fresh and generous portions. I always get the salmon lemon roll and Philly roll and it's great for the price. I took my daughter there for her birthday and ordered her the banana tempura ice cream and they took it off the check and put a candle and lit it for her. Definetly recommend for sushi rolls!“

“Exceptional hidden gem sushi spot. So glad we found this place. Very small, only about 6 small tables inside. All the sushi was exceptional, wide variety of foods including a sushi taco which was not a gimmick or stunt food, so so good. Prices were fair, they had a range from simple to fancy based on what you wanted. Miso soup was also delicious. The water cups were made of heavy stone, the miso bowls were handmade wood. I almost don’t want to recommend this place since it’s so small I’m worried it’ll get too busy! But they deserve it. Best sushi in the Bay Area.“

“This is my cult favorite sushi spot in San Francisco. Do you want to support a small business? Feel like mom n pop restaurants are dead?
COME TO HOT ZUSHI, it's cozy, and the green tea is perfection. Connie and her husband are a kind, efficient, duo that spin up fresh sushi every time.
We come to Hot Zushi monthly, take our friends here, and visitors. If there is a wait, since there's only a dozen tables - promise it's worth waiting for, just grab a drink across the street at the Woods.
We haven't tried anything that wasn't great but here are our favorites we rotate:
- House salad is a MUST
- Edamame
- Miso
- cucumber salad
- wakame (seaweed)
- Hamachi lime
Jalapeno tuna
- big team
-Big poppa
- chronic
- smashing pumpkins
- tiger
- any sashima“

“After a visit to Ocean Beach I found this place and it has been quite a discovery. A shame I didn't find it sooner! Delicious sushi with a large amount of fish inside at a very good price. Also the teriyaki salmon is very delicious and a very well served dish at a good price. Excellent service, very friendly. They serve miso soup as a starter. And the prices are super good, they don't seem like they're from San Francisco.
The bathroom is also very clean. If I were in this city for more days I would repeat without hesitation.“

“Kamu Sushi in South San Francisco is a cozy, small gem that really makes every visit special. Their beer and sake is top-notch and pairs beautifully with the meal. The extra spicy edamame is a fiery delight, while the seafood options like lobster and mussels are impeccably fresh. The nigiri and Spicy Spider Roll round out an unforgettable culinary experience. A must-visit for an intimate evening of great food and drink. Cheers!“
