But we did have lunch here last week and the quality and value were still good. I had bbq chicken pizza with tomato basil soup as the lunch special and it was just right. Husband had soup & salad and also enjoyed it.“

“We had a great dining experience at Urban Plates in Long Beach. Mariana explained the menu choices in a very unrushed manner, and we decided on the steak. I ordered the Chimichurri grass-fed steak with balsamic brussel sprouts and herb-roasted potatoes. All of it was delicious ( and healthy too!). The deserts were absolutely killer too. We will definitely eat here again next time we're in Long Beach.“

“5 stars for weekday happy hour specials! Popped in before a show at Segerstrom. Made a reservation on Opentable and when we arrived at 5pm there was already a line forming for the happy hour section. We ordered the $16 flatbread and sips: pesto chicken flatbread paired with generous size cosmo martini. Also ordered from the $8 small plates special: goat cheese and 3 piece steak lettuce wraps. Service was fast and friendly, food served hot and generous in portion for happy hour. There used to be live piano entertainment - there wasn’t on the night we went. They were showing baseball playoffs that time. We will definitely return when we go to a show again!“

There were zero slices remaining for leftovers so we had to take an entire pie to go to have more for later. “We've used Taylor Made Cuisine a number of times for corporate catering, and the food is spectacular! I highly recommend the BBQ, and their Hero Sandwich is always a hit with our attendees. While their food shines, the service is where TMC really knocks it out of the park. The planning/ordering process is easy (thank you, Carol!!!), delivery/set-up is efficient, and the team as a whole is lovely to work with. Thank you, TMC!“

“Couldn't find an all-vegan restaurant in Laguna on a Monday evening (so disappointing), so drove out of our way to SeaBirds in Costa Mesa, and lemme tell you, it was worth the extra time and gas money!! Yossi greeted us with a smile and recommended the homemade pesto rigatoni with almond cheese and toasted gremolata (I chose to eliminate the seitan sausage crumble) -- absolute perfection, and my new favorite meal! Since I live 40 miles away, I rarely get to enjoy this place, and I normally order the purple potato taquitos, but stepped out of my comfort zone and so glad I did!!! Then came the homemade vanilla soda (don't forget to stir it) -- a sweet, nostalgic sensory delight! I rarely have room for dessert, but we tried the famous churro waffle with vanilla ice cream and chocolate drizzle (called a chaffle), and the chocolate avocado mousse with homemade oreo crumble -- ohmygoodness!!!! Both disappeared faster than we'd like to admit. I love the food here so much that I would crawl back on my hands and knees for another meal if I had to! Outstanding food and service, and proof that exceptional vegan restaurants still exist -- thank goodness! 20 out of 10 stars!!!“

“HI, I have to be honest. I was trying to find a way to contact Flappy Jacks as I have a proposition I think would be perfect for Flappy Jacks I have what is probably a bit of an unusual idea. Or maybe just a good idea. I know it is an unusual way to contact you but there was no email address. So I hope this works. I am from Columbia Missouri and I am visiting my Son, Grand Kids, and family there, just a few blocks to the East of Tustin. I am a musician, part time, and I like to street busk (play music on the streets) for grins. I noticed your nostalgic decor and your Elvis statues and the mural featuring the St Louis Arch, which is in Missouri on the Mississippi, of course, where I am from, and the 1930s, 40s and 50s nostalgia, and I wondered if you ever considered, or entertained the notion of having a little nostalgic live music, every now and then, perhaps even if only just once as an experiment. I just happen to play that old classic blues from that era, mostly, at least in this capacity, as Mr. Fletcher's One Man Blues Band. And I thought we might make a pretty good match up. As I said, at least, as an experiment. You can check me out at Facebook "Keith Fletcher, musician." Though most of that music is from my original music shows, and not my one man blues sets. I noticed you had a nice patio area where I could play outside and it might be a nice treat for your customers to have a bit of entertainment, just for a change of pace. They might really appreciate it since they obviously like your atmosphere. I don't play loud music. Unless folks want that, but I prefer to play soft. Or at least in situations like this. I've been the house band for BBQ joints and restaurants on several occasions. So I am familiar with the proper decorum. Mostly I was just looking for a little music adventure in CA within a walking distance of my Son's house, where I could carry a very tiny amp about the size of a cracker box, and my guitar to a gig. I thought maybe about just doing a street gig but saw your venue and something seemed to click. I hope you think so too. I estimate you are about a mile walking distance from his house and I only need an electrical plug. And probably some cool beverages. Like I said, I'm mostly in it for a small musical adventure, and so will play for tips, though, maybe you can pay me with free cold beverages, especially if it is hot, and maybe a sandwich or meal depending on how long I am there. It all looks delicious to me. If you find you'd like to host me again, and want me back, that might be possible over the week, and I may be back for the Christmas holiday. I might even be able to talk my Son into bringing the kids and family. Could be a total bust, or could be a very nice thing, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Who knows? If it worked out well enough for both of us, you might even want to do it again sometime, Maybe even offer some kind of fee next time, if there is a next time. Life is an adventure. You / we, might stumble onto something good. If you would like to give it a whirl, what day and time would you think is good to catch a crowd? “Way better coffee than the chain coffee shops, and Chai is delicious too. They offer two chai selections, vanilla and spice, or mix the two. Small selection of pastries, which are average, packaged protein bars and juice shots, and a few breakfast items on the menu. Will try one of those next time. Friendly staff that you don't mind tipping, and cute, simple decor. Plenty of free parking.“

9/29 update: came back for the Tuna Melt, ate within 7 minutes. No notes, 10/10 would recommend, try with hot sauce.

10/1 update: Tried the Turkey and Ham panini, very warm and delicious. Great with Cholula hot sauce. Oatmeal raisin cookie was okay as I don’t like raisins. 10/10 no notes would recommend.

10/8 update: Tried the Chicken Primavera Melt, bit tangy and as if you’re eating pasta in a panini form. I’d assume it would be even better with hot sauce but I was too lazy to grab it. Chocolate cookie was immaculate. 10/10 no notes, would recommend.“

“Balboa Island Baking Company is the embodiment of what a cute, local, and utterly delicious bakery should be.

Walked in for the first time today, and was immediately greeted with a smile and kind service. After asking for recommendations (and realizing we missed the cinnamon rolls and sticky pecan rolls, sadly), I got the pecan roll pieces bag, a strawberry scone, and a coconut almond scone. It all blew me away.

First of all, the pecan roll pieces. They warm them up for you, and it is gooey, sweet, cinnamon-y heaven in a bag. I could not stop myself from grabbing bite after bite. If you are the kind of person who loves the center of a sweet roll, then this was made for you, my friend. Next is the strawberry scone with its delectable glaze. The scone itself is a perfect texture, and somehow infused with that fresh, strawberry flavor we all know and love. Finally is the coconut almond scone, also a perfect texture. While not as sweet as it's fruity sister, it has great flavor and I love how much coconut is studded throughout.

So, if you want a little sweet treat to start your day with the bonus of supporting a local gem, then be sure to visit asap!“

“I had the GOAT cheese with peach salad. It contained goat cheese, sliced peaches, lettuce, mint, basil, roasted almonds, chicken, pickled onions and a dressing on the side. The salad was perhaps the best salad I have ever had. It was super fresh and all the flavors came through spectacularly. You could taste the mint, the basil and everything else. This is a limited time seasonal item. I highly recommend this one.“
