“I’ve been coming to Kenbey every week for the past couple months and it genuinely hasn’t missed once. The fish is the freshest I’ve had in the States since eating sushi in Japan, and I don’t say that casually.

I always get the tuna and salmon specials because I truly can’t resist — the seared toro and the salmon with the yuzu truffle are the best bites of sushi I’ve ever had. Every single time.

For my birthday I did the Omakase solo and sat at the bar, and watching the chef work was a work of art. Their classic miso soup was already my favorite, and then the crab miso came with the Omakase and I genuinely don’t know how I’m ever not going to order that now. The ice cream finished it off perfectly — denser than what you’re used to, almost mochi-like. The chef talked me into it and I’m so glad he did.

The staff is warm and attentive in a way that actually feels natural, not performative.

Kenbey is such an underrated hidden gem and I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about it. It’s my new neighborhood spot.“

“First thing first, the sushi is really fresh. We got the toro, salmon belly, and the yellowtail belly. Saba is a little fishy. The rice is a bit mushy but good enough.

The cooked food is not as great. The agedashi tofu has too much breading and taste average. Kaiju tar tar is okayyy.

The service however took forever, and they never come to check up on us. Servers reach over to get dishes for other tables. Maybe they are short staffed but they should still handle us probably.“

“okay i could write an entire novel about my experience here, but i will keep it brief. my sister and i came to the WeHo Uchi to celebrate my birthday after hearing lots of buzz about it. When we entered, we were immediately greeted warmly and had a lovely exchange with the host. The ambiance was beautiful, everything was pristine and curated, and everyone member of the staff were friendly and comfortable to speak to. Our waiter—whom i sadly cannot remember the name of— truly went above and beyond with his service. We ordered the omakase for two and a few other small dishes, but he threw in two on the house— one being wagyu as a “birthday present” and the other being nigiri. We were choosing between the nigiri and a roll, and when we ultimately chose the roll, our waiter brought us both dishes anyway. Everything felt incredibly thoughtful and personal; there was even a little handwritten card wishing me a happy birthday. The food came out very swiftly—and speaking of the food, it exceeded our expectations. Everything was fresh, beautiful in its presentation, and very unique. “We had the chance to celebrate Sushi Zanmai’s 1-year anniversary, and it was such a fun experience from start to finish. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, and you can tell they truly care about quality and hospitality.

One of the highlights is that Sushi Zanmai has its own exclusive house sake, which made the experience even more unique. We enjoyed a sake tasting, and each bottle had its own smooth, well-balanced flavor that paired beautifully with the food. If you enjoy Japanese sake, this is something you definitely shouldn’t skip.

We ordered the Zanmai Gozen, and it was the perfect way to experience a variety of the restaurant’s specialties. The beautifully presented set included fresh sashimi, crispy shrimp and vegetable tempura, flavorful appetizers, a creative specialty roll, and perfectly cooked bites finished with rich sauces and just the right amount of spice. Every item was fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and showcased authentic Japanese flavors.

The presentation was stunning, the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh, and every bite reflected the attention to detail that Sushi Zanmai is known for. The chefs were welcoming, and watching them prepare the dishes added to the overall dining experience.

“We visited this restaurant as a couple. Unfortunately, reservations are not accepted, so we had to wait on the street for about 45 minutes to get a table.

Normally, I would not be willing to wait that long, but I had been told several times that the food was well worth the wait because of the restaurant's outstanding cuisine.

After entering the restaurant, the first thing I noticed was the rather high noise level. The interior design also seemed quite simple and functional rather than particularly cozy or stylish. On the positive side, the service was attentive, friendly, and pleasantly unobtrusive.

The quality of the food was excellent. Every dish we ordered impressed us with its freshness and flavor. Particularly noteworthy was the selection of seafood specialties, including some items that are not commonly found in many restaurants.

“Katsu-ya is my neighborhood sushi spot, and it is a good one. This is not the place you go when you want the best sushi of your life or a meal that is going to blow your mind. This is where you go when you want good, consistent sushi any day of the week.

It is the Toyota Avalon of sushi restaurants, on the upper end of reliable, and I go there constantly. They are always busy and have many celebrity clients, if that matters to you. Service is consistently great as well. If you want a table, it is best to make a reservation since they are often very busy.“
