“I don't know how I've never been here before but it wasn't just dinner, it was an experience. There is much to be said about an elevated staff that is perfectly poised in how to treat their guests and create an "experience ". That is just what they did, from the hostess, to the server, to the sommelier. And I haven't even started talking about the food!! The ambiance is beautiful, the food was spectacular and fresh, we had the Omakase. It was served with a sparking rosé that was just wonderful! The whole experience was a 10 and I can't wait to go back! Unbelievable hidden gem!“
“Chicken katsu was great, big portion, tender chicken, came with a pretty and delicious salad and the curry was also very good. It was totally worth the price. Takoyaki was one of the best I've eaten. The portion is also generous and there were definitely big chunks of Tako inside the balls. Presentation was very pretty too. However my lemon roll was not as good as the other dishes. The spicy tuna was overly spicy and it took away the flavor of the entire dish. The size surprised me positively though, it was much bigger than rolls in other places. The fish was fresh and the proportion with rice was good too. I would definitely come back.“
“I was looking for a new sushi spot (you can tell when old favorites start going through the motions) and The Big Fish is right on the money. We had the Caterpillar roll, crunch roll, and baked salmon roll, all very good. The baked salmon roll was actually one of the best I've ever had - perfect temperature. Interior of the restaurant has a nice vibe, and friendly folks work there. Pricewise this might be slightly higher (for some of the rolls) than other places, but you can taste the difference. This is in a part of town I hadn't been to in years and the location is in a "blink and you'll miss it" strip mall at Riverside and Coldwater Canyon...so thanks to Yelp's new restaurant email and all of the other reviews: this is a sushi place worth visiting!“
“Been coming here since I moved to LA in 2012 and to this day remains the best sushi I've ever had in my life. The service is impeccable and speedy. The ambiance is quaint and makes it feel like high end dining but with reasonable prices. Always recommend to people looking for a good sushi spot!“
“Hidden gem!! Very lovely sushi spot. Its very cozy ambiance and feels very secluded. Everything is delicious. Highlights are spicy tuna crispy rice, BBQ ribs, crunchy tempura roll. I eat sushi all over the valley and this is becoming my favorite spot 100%!Parking: Parking Lot“
“I love the new outside setup the vibes are amazing ! Best sushi i had in a while, great place :)Parking: A good number of spotsKid-friendliness: They are great with kids and patienceWheelchair accessibility: Good for outside not too much room inside“
“Super delicious Omakase experience! I'd definitely like to go back on a week night for a few rolls. We did a double date here the other night and there was a mixup with our order and we waited a long time but they made it right. I definitely recommend the Omakase experience! My favorite was the nigiri and sashimi. Super fresh and all the details on top of the fish were delicious. Creamy caviar at one point ! This place is in a busy area, so parking is hard, get there early! I appreciate the upscale vibe in the midst of a lot of restaurants, its stands apart!“
“I selfishly want to gate keep this place , but it deserves a 5 star review. Not fine dining, but it is the perfect neighborhood spot. Consistently good with high quality fish. I have been dining here a few times a month for the past few months. Best neighborhood sushi “
“Food taste so good and very tasty and savory. Workers are so kind and polite they leave such a positive and warm welcome in the space. I've been a few times and every time i have been there they are very accommodating while offering some of the best hospitality. Highly recommend!!“
“At first glance, there was nothing special going on. The decor was clean, simple and casual. It was also more expensive, especially for a Van Nuys location. But the servings had good size and freshness, not to mention chefy garnishes here and there. I was also pleasantly surprised when they had my coveted favorite, Sea Urchin!I’ll be back. This is now my go to Sushi place! ????❤️?“
“Enjoyed a very nice lunch here recently. The food was very good and the staff friendly. Our only complaint was the music level was a little loud for conversation and the staff could not adjust it as it was controlled by the manager. If you're looking for a tasty meal and can talk over the music this is the place to go.“
“Street parking on Van Nuys Blvd as well as a few spots in the back. Not crowded at 11:30 on a Monday. Great variety of sushi and everything we tried was fresh and delicious. Service was friendly. Prices were not excessive. There were no pets when we were there but knowing that they are allowed does concern me and gives doubts about future visits. If they had an outside area JUST for furry visitors and restricted the inside area I would like that much better. The serving sizes were average. Spent $100.00 on lunch for 2 which for me is becoming the new norm.“
“This place is wonderful. Friendly and attentive staff, delicious, high quality fish, an intimate date night spot. It can get noisy, but it's an Izakaya! That's to be expected. My husband and I have tried many other popular local sushi spots, but Izakaya M is by far our favorite. After coming back from Japan and eating some of the best sushi possible, Izakaya M is our way of getting a bit of that quality back home. Not only do they have delicious fish, but their robata items are delicious as well.“
“First time here! It was a fun experience. Will we be back? Probably not.The wait was LONG. But the waitlist system works fine. You need to sign up on the machine first, then it will tell you a ball park how long the wait will be. For us on a thursday night, it was an hour wait. After seated, we started grabbing dishes from the belt. There are lots of choices of sushi. Some appetizers. And some dessert options too. (Oh you could also order from their expanded menu for ramen or other stuff that’s not on the belt)Overall, the fish was fresh. The taste was a little underwhelming. The price was reasonable. We ate so fast because we were starving after the hour wait. lol.We ended up eating 20+ dishes within 30 minutes and spent $50/person.“
“I'll admit I've been coming here for about 15!!! This was THE SPOT in high school!! I remember the wall had a generic menu for every roll and they charged by the plate.... Oh how times have changed. What hasn't changed though is their rolls and the spicy mayo. I love their spicy mayo. I appreciate having a place I can go to for over a decade and it be consistent. Love sushi Mac!!!“
“Food is always great. Ordered the rainbow roll. Shishito peppers, Sapporo pint and seaweed salad during their happy hour. Note that the seaweed salad, although in the happy hour menu was not eligible for the happy hour price. Service was amazing. Very attentive and I was able to seat myself. I was studying my lines there so it was a quiet and peaceful ambiance. Nothing too distracting. If I had friends with me I would get the Sapporo pitcher for 7.99 but I didn't wanna over indulge so just got the 3.99 Sapporo pint.“
“Been coming here for years! I must say my most recent visit , Uriel went above and beyond! He provided great costumer service and does it with a happy and friendly attitude, which makes my experience nicer and just adds to great food !I love the California roll and oriental salad !I am a regular for the spicy chicken bowl too but I must say it’s a great place for quick and yummy food + friendly service!“
“Went here after we were referred by a friend and it was well worth it! Food was so good. Our waitress Sarah was very friendly and even recommended great food choices. The pork belly was amazing, crispy Brussels are amazing and the crispy rice spicy salmon ?“
