“While exploring Hilo we stopped at Hilo Iced Coffee, which operates out of a mobile truck and feels very much like a local staple. It is casual and no-frills, but that is part of the charm.

I ordered the ube iced latte and it was easily one of the prettiest drinks I had on the trip. The purple color is vibrant and eye catching without feeling gimmicky. More importantly, it tastes as good as it looks. It was lightly sweet, well balanced, and still very much coffee forward, not overly sugary like some flavored lattes can be.

Service was quick and friendly, and it is the kind of spot that makes you slow down for a minute and just enjoy your drink. If you are on the Hilo side and want something a little different from your standard iced coffee order, the ube latte is absolutely worth trying.“

“The chef welcomes you and personally comes to your table to tell you about the food and menu of the day. Then you you see him and his assistant prepare your food in a tiny cooking area behind the counter. A more personal experience you cannot find besides having a personal chef. We showed up without a reservation, got lucky getting a table, and came back in about an hour for a spot at one of only 3 tables in the whole place. And for the quality, presentation, and value of the food you cannot find a better dining experience in Hilo or anywhere else. It was great food.“

“I only drink light roast coffee. I was excited to find this Starbucks in Safeway along the main road. The gal working was delightful.
I was surprised my Starbucks app payment would not work and the system would not allow me to tip.
The Barista was so delightful I made a purchase in Safeway so that I could get funds to tip her!

“First, food is excellent! They do a very nice job, make it fresh and the place is very cool...right next to two other food counters, also right around the corner from the market. One is Thai, very good as well and another acai bowl place which we also love. I took a star because of the hours, twice now we have gone wanting this and they are closed?? Both times were within what they say open on here, but nothing there but a closed sign, frustrating because we love the food.“

“A nice surprise with singing and guitar music while we ate and had a drink to start our vacation. We ordered lechon and 2 pina coladas. Service was nice and efficient, the view is lovely. Day 2 we ordered Caesar salad and clams. The bread dipped in garlic sauce was nice. The brownie with ice cream dessert was divine. Day 3 we ordered chicken wings, espresso martini and poke during Happy Hour. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. Poke was good, we ordered a side of rice. Loco moco and coffee for breakfast. Plenty of meat variety, thin beef patty, rice a little undercooked. For most evening meals, it took 30-40 minutes after ordering to get food, at breakfast about 15 minutes.“
