“Would have came here for the third time within 5 days if I could! I tried the basil pesto, arugula and shrimp burger. I'd rate them as follows: 9/10, 8.5/10 and 11/10. The basil pesto burger can get soggy if not eaten right away and the arugula burger could have used more balsamic and arugula flavor profile. However, the shrimp burger with wasabi aioli was perfect. It's genuinely the best seafood burger I have ever tried.

Disclaimer: the patties are thick and they are more of an gourmet burger spot, so you will have to wait some time for them to prepare you food. Otherwise, I wish they open a spot in LA at some point!“

“I was visiting Honolulu from Wisconsin, and this food truck ended up being one of the best surprises of the whole trip. I’ll be honest the walk to it looks a little sketchy at first since you head down this small alley, but don’t let that fool you. Once you get back there, it’s a whole different story. The customer service was awesome super friendly, super welcoming. And the food? Straight-up 10/10. The loaded barbecue fries were insane, packed with flavor and totally worth every bite. The burgers were just as amazing, juicy and cooked perfectly. Everything we tried was out of this world. If you’re in Honolulu, don’t sleep on this place. I’d come back in a heartbeat.“

“South Shore Grill has been part of my routine for close to 20 years. It’s a family‑run business with a lot of heart, and I’ve watched the owners’ kids grow up working behind the counter. The food is consistently good, the prices are fair, and there’s a great variety to choose from. It’s an easy stop before the beach or park, or the perfect place to refuel after a day in the surf. My go‑to is always the fish burrito. The cajun seasoning and macnut pesto are always on point. Truly one of those local spots that feels like part of the community.“

“Operating out of a yakiniku restaurant, this place is a gem! Amazing smash burger. I’ve gone three times in the past couple of weeks and each time did not disappoint. I’m a creature of habit so I got the Double OG3 Deluxe and OG3 Fries. One friend got the Waygu, one the plain cheeseburger, and another the same as me and all loved it. Fries are nice and crispy with the special OG3 sauce. Reminiscent of In-n-out animal style fries, but fries are crinkle cut and much better than In-n-out. Highly recommend if you like a good smash burger!“

“My go to is the Onion Royal (Royal Burger with no Tomato), fries and a drink. They are in the same neighborhood as my shop (in Kaimuki) so I get to go way more often than before but I still have to drive there so it is usually a once a week special treat for myself and the crew. Pro tip: try their desserts. Co-owner Joy is a former pastry chef from 3660 on the Rise so their selection of sweets are LEGIT! Don't forget the Green River drink for a hit of nostalgia. 💚“

“Old review from 2024 -> Best burger I’ve ever had in my entire life. I’m not just trying to hype up this place just because they’re a local business. Seriously the burgers are out of this world. I’ve been to so many burger trucks/restaurants in the island/ Continental USA/ Other countries. And no one has ever made me such a delicious burger. 10/10. These burgers are worth every penny.

Edited : 8/3/26. I stopped by for ur reopening with ur new truck. I’ll miss seeing the small rainbow 🌈 truck since I live close by but I’m really happy for the success of this family business. Now with a bigger truck, you can do much more :). I always recommend this place to family/friends and visitors. Congrats from a silent supporter. I enjoyed the burger and fries yet once again.

“Bikini burger was a perfect fit after a long day of vacation. Fresh, hot juicy burger that comes with seasoned fries. We also got the salad and loved the toppings (pickle, tomato, dressing). Simple but delicious. The uniquely fried Oreos were a fun dessert. My son loved them.“

“Used to be a pool hall bar back in the day called Amy's Place. What an interior transformation! Cool to have a vintage tavern in the throngs of Honolulu! We went for Sunday Brunch...the menu is extensive. We are picky eaters. It is rare we had so many items we liked on the menu. We had the lamb sandwich and the crab cake benedict. Both were delicious. So were the roasted potatoes and French fries! We love to eat and have tried nearly every restaurant in the Chinatown/downtown neighborhood. There are few we return to. We will be back and soon. The girl at the register recommend the beef short ribs and they were amazing. My wife had the teriyaki chicken and it had amazing flavor, though a bit overcooked, I still finished it if for her gladly. My only warning: one dish is plenty for two hungry people! We were getting ready to head to the airport and didn't want any to go to waste, so we have half to a mother with four teenage boys. They were 😊. “Originally recommended to me by my former boss, Island Sub is a classic, no-nonsense spot. I have to confess: in my opinion, they have the absolute best onion rings in Hawaii. They don't make them from scratch—they are pre-cooked, frozen, and shipped—but whatever they do in the kitchen to fry them makes them unbeatable. Hands down, the best.

While I've tried a few different items over the years, my absolute go-to is the Meatball Sub. I usually order the half size, but this time I treated myself to the full. It’s a beautifully simple combination of tomato sauce, melted cheese, and meatballs, and I’ve never had a single complaint about it.

It’s a wonderful family-owned business where the husband holds down the kitchen and the wife manages the front of the house. They’ve been running it this way since well before COVID. The restaurant itself hasn't changed at all in the ten years I've been visiting, even though the surrounding strip mall has undergone some modern renovations. The interior does look a little run-down and dated, but that's alright—I usually take my food back to the office rather than dining in anyway.

We can almost always find what we are looking for including gifts from local artists and made quite a few friends with some of the vendors. There is something for everyone.
