Guinness Open Gate Brewery – West Loop Brewpubs •
901 W Kinzie St, Chicago

“Beautiful interior, great bar and impressive wooden harp. Nice selection of food. It's a bit unclear which beer is local and which isn't. The Guinness is tasty but still a bit overpriced. The CHICAGO DIP sandwich was absolutely top class. Very very tasty. The service was nice but a bit too pushy. It wasn't that crowded there, so it was more of a mixed, semi-good experience.“

“It’s a great spot for a variety of craft beers on tap, and the ambience is lovely as well. The menu is nice, but it’s a little more pricey than you might expect out of a craft beer spot. That said, I agree on the prices listed after trying the dishes offered. The short rib is delicious, as well as the chicken sandwich. The service did leave a little to be desired, I kind of felt like I was looking around for the individual waiting on the section I was seated in, but overall it has always been a pleasant experience. I would bring guests here maybe the second or third time they visited me in Chicago. Not a first draft pick to represent the city, but it’s a nice place to feel like you’re part of the scene here.“

Alulu Brewery and Pub Brewery • $$

“Alulu is great, they have two floor levels, and an outdoor patio. They have a lot of themed nights like chess night, video game night, etc. They have daily food specials and a solid happy hour. They brew different types of beer and have solid cocktails too! It's also really friendly, everyone who works here is awesome and their patio is dog friendly.“

Hop Butcher For The World Brewery • $$
4257 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago

“If you love hazy ipa's this place is a must. I've been drinking their beers for a handful of years and I couldn't wait for them to open a taproom. If you know anything about Hop Butcher, you know they're constantly making new beers. It's nicely designed, prices are reasonable and they have a store to purchase their beers on the other side. Definitely worth a visit. Great service with a pretty laidback vibe.“

“My husband and I dined in their dining room for their tasting menu last year and we loved it! The food was outstanding and was paired well with their beer. We enjoyed it experience and wanted to try their bar menu so we came back today try it out. We also loved the food at the bar and the quality was top notch. Don't be fooled that it's a bar menu. It's extremely upscale and just as good as their Michelin dining room tasting menu. We love the dark library vibe of the bar and the service was great too. I highly recommend this place and we will come back again and again! Oh and did I mention that their beer is amazing!“

Anti-Hero

“TL;DR - If you’re even slightly thinking about coming here, just do it. Revolution has the best beer in the city, fantastic food, and incredible staff.A lot of breweries in Chicago excel in making their one or two specialty styles of beer, and that’s it. Revolution, on the other hand, is able to guarantee high quality and incredibly drinkable beer across just about every style you can think of. I normally hate those dark, boozy, 15+% ABV beers, yet I drink every single one that Rev puts out and I love it. Their “Hero”-series IPAs will make even the biggest IPA hater second guess their hatred. And their sours (usually released during the summer) are so good, you will question how something this good can be alcoholic. Revolution doesn’t put out a beer that isn’t incredible, so you can pick a beer at random and be sure to enjoy it.Recently, the Brewpub renovated their space and, with it, re-did a lot of their menu. The space is cozy, yet upscale (the seating is significantly comfier than it once was with new plush seating). The new food is also really high quality - much higher than you would expect from a brewery. A lot of detail is put into plating and presentation (Mushrooms & Tofu, for example, looks like a piece of art), and still it tastes somehow even better than it looks. In addition to more upscale menu items, you’re also able to get a lot of that “typical” bar food here that fully delivers (pretzel, cheese curds, fries, etc.). The only gripe I could possibly have here is on the pricing of some of the food. This does not apply to the whole menu though, just some items that feel like they are priced higher than they should be (e.g. Lion’s Mane mushrooms, a starter, costs the same as the Mushrooms & Tofu, an entree, despite being significantly less food and sharing some similar ingredients. Why?!). If you can view this less as a bar and more like a nicer restaurant (which, with the renovation completed, is easy to do), then the pricing is a lot more palatable. The ambiance, food, and drinks are all great, but it’s the staff at Revolution that keeps me coming back though. They’re all so friendly, personable, passionate, and professional - they are the kind of people that make your night out feel special. My fiancé and I have celebrated birthdays, engagements, job offers, anniversaries, and so much more here because of how wonderful the staff are in celebrating and creating such a fun environment to be in. They make Revolution a place we want to go whenever we want to have a good time out. There are just too many people to name (Magnolia, Drake, Erwin, Makenna, Amy, Matt, just to name a few) - but rest assured that we love just about everyone who has served us here. So much so, that my fiancé and I are getting married here later this year! This is the easiest 5 stars I have ever handed out. I have so little to say about places that are “meh”, so the length of this review should show how much I love it here. I’ve come here at least every week for the last 2+ years, and I don’t have any intention of slowing down anytime soon. If you’re still reading this, please stop reading and start drinking, and do it at the Brewpub! You won’t regret it!Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options here. Standouts include the veggie burger (vegan by default), Mushrooms & Tofu (vegan), and a delicious pretzel with beer cheese (vegetarian and oh so good).“

“Visited Crushed By Giants Brewing Company during the bustling St. Patrick's Day weekend in Chicago, and it was a refreshing oasis of calm. After hours of being on our feet, finding this quiet, relaxed spot was exactly what we needed. The beers here are exceptional - a wide range of flavors, each more delightful than the last, truly showcasing their brewing expertise. What added to our pleasant experience was the service. Our waiter was the epitome of laid-back and friendly, striking up easy conversations and adding to the relaxed vibe of the place. He was knowledgeable about the beer selections and had great recommendations, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The atmosphere of Crushed By Giants is its biggest selling point. In a city that can often feel overwhelming, especially during a festive weekend, this brewery provided a much-needed respite. It's a place where the hustle of the city fades into the background, allowing you to really unwind and savor your time. While the place ticks most boxes for a great brewery experience, the reason for the four-star rating is perhaps the desire for a slightly wider food menu to complement their excellent beers. Nonetheless, for anyone looking for quality craft beers and a place to decompress in the heart of Chicago, Crushed By Giants is definitely worth a visit. A big thumbs up for their beers, ambiance, and service!“

Life on Marz Community Club Brewery • $$
1950 N Western Ave, Chicago

“Found a spot that's perfect for remote work! I love the laid back, artsy, and friendly cafe vibe of this nano-brewery! I came by on a weekday afternoon with my laptop and ordered a matcha latte. I was a little worried I had missed coffee service because it was just past 2pm, but the barista was friendly and accommodating and made the perfect cup of matcha! The space itself is perfect for working because it has ample table space, comfortable chairs, and several outlets to plug in your laptop. My favorite part is that it stays open late until 11pm (as opposed to most cafes that close around 3pm-6pm). This means I don't have to rush to finish my work, and I can switch from coffee to beer without having to move locations! Between 4-7pm they have a happy hour deal for draft beers. Once I closed my laptop around 5pm, my friend came to join me and we ordered some beers, and grabbed a card game from their collection. They have a variety of board and card games that you can borrow while you drink and hang out. We played Sushi Go, which was straight forward and easy to learn and easy to chat while playing. I drank the Mystic pale ale, which I really enjoyed! I love that they have a variety of snacks available! And a staff member mentioned that we could bring in food if we would like. There's a lot of good food options in the area. What a relaxed spot to hang out, do some work, and drink some delicious craft beer! Will be back soon :)“

“I came here with a group for the chess club night, which I honestly was not expecting to have as much fun as I did there. The pizza was ok, I really liked the crust, just not enough sauce, essentially the only pieces that had any were the 2 middle ones. The music selection was really good and they had a good selection of beer or hard seltzer. The establishment was clean over all as well.“

“First discovered IBW while waiting in the car wash lane, like I am now. That led to a visit and exploration into a world of loud guitars ? where mountain bicyclists and ex-skateboarders would feel welcome. Start with a beer flight, and you won't go wrong if their 'Trust' is one of the lager-type brews on the menu. Next time I'll time my car wash better -- on Saturdays they open at 2pm.“

“Fantastic vibes, ciders and food at this place, I couldn’t fault it! The venue is huge, spacious and classy. They are more cider heavy than beer, as a cider person this was heaven to me!! We loved ordering flights or small little glasses, we tried all ciders on the menu. I would totally recommend the van van mojo, blush and the strawberry rhubarb ciders. They also have a cider malort combo which was vile to me but each to their own. Food is also fantastic make sure to order the fried pickles even if you don’t particularly like pickles cuz they were that good. Burgers and the fried chicken sandwich was also great. I think they use house made buns they were perfect. I had my burger on a gluten free bun, it was a little crumbly yet a very good tasting bun. Their thick cut home fries are also phenomenal. I love how they have healthier side options as well! Our servers were quite friendly and helped us allot with our selections. Though it wasn’t that packed when we were there, servers were barely making ends meet. Im guessing service might get slow on a busier night.Vegetarian options: Vegetarian and vegan options are clearly marked on the menuDietary restrictions: Gluten free items clearly marked on the menu. Many options to choose from. They have a dozen ciders as well. Gluten free bun for burgers is available and tasty.“

Cody's Public House Sports Bar • $$

“Cody's is a great time. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Although it can get very crowded on the weekends, if you can claim a spot by a dart board or the pool table, you won't want to leave. It's also worth mentioning that the back patio is a very chill vibe on summer nights. The only thing keeping me from giving Cody's 5 stars is that if you go earlier in the day, you will find adults who bring their children who will often times run around unattended. Cody's is also pet friendly which is awesome. However after having a few drinks, it becomes worrisome that you can easily step on some of the small dogs that are hard to spot. Overall, Cody's is great.“

“okay, so we’ve been to Ørkenoy several times before and we always enjoy it. the food has a unique twist (Nordic modern) relative to Chicago’s culinary scene but it’s very accessible, a good value, and the drinks are solid. it’s usually just us, but this day we were a party of 8, including 4 children, which is kinda daunting for most restaurants. our server was totally great, friendly, and informative, and really welcomed the 5 folks who’d never dined at Ørkenoy before. the burgers were delicious, the kids loved the meatballs with lingonberry sauce, the pickled eggs were a hit, plus we adults all enjoyed our cocktails. one cool thing about the space is there’s a claw machine and freethrow hoops at the other end of the Kimball Arts Center, so the kids (with adult supervision) were able to divert their energies while the kitchen prepared everyone’s meals. i am uniformly amazed when i talk to chicagoans who have yet to dine at Ørkenoy, as it’s obviously very much worth checking out!Parking: Plenty of free parking options.Kid-friendliness: We brought 4 kids to lunch and nobody batted an eyelash. The kids were down to try everything and generally had a great time! Plenty to explore!“
