“A not so hidden gem as of late now that reviews are catching up with the imaginative menu and exceptional dining experience Community Tavern has been consistently providing over the past several years. Menu is full of unique dishes… elevated dumpling and noodles are a signature. Beautifully plated and generous- but not overly. Cocktail menu is fun, with zero proof options that are spot on. Save room for baked Alaska. Oh, and ambiance is chic but allows the focus to be where it belongs. On the food. Upscale West Loop experience in modest Portage Park for a lot less and no pretense.“

“Gather is simply my favorite restaurant in Chicago. Every dish is incredible: the ricotta-honey spread and buttery toast, citrus cured salmon with fried egg, carmelized brussels sprouts with aioli...and that's before you even get to the entrees. Truth be told, I've never actually made it to dessert here because I'm already so stuffed from everything else. The decor is classy but comfortable; you'll dine by candlelight with a list of appealing cocktails ready to hand. If you're lucky, you can sit with a direct view of the kitchen where you can watch the magic happen.Incredible spot--if this place ever closes, you can rest assured that I will weep bitter tears for it. Please go eat here so that doesn't happen.“

“Very kind and careful staff cared about our experience from the moment we booked all the way till we left feeling happy and fat. My beautiful bride and I enjoyed their tasting menu with obvious tweaks to her vegetarian diet. Everything was delicious, surprising, and fun. The NA drink pairings were wonderfully inspired and amazing. 11/10.“

“Stopped in for Saturday brunch. Was seated after a short wait. Everything was wonderful… the food was excellent (crazy delicious lemon raspberry brioche French toast), attentive service, and very reasonable prices. Looking forward to going back (want to try the breakfast bread pudding)! I took one star off atmosphere for a bit of noise (acoustics), but it didn’t detract from the overall experience.Parking: Metered street parking“

I highly recommend Volo Wine Bar for anyone looking for a cozy and inviting spot to unwind and enjoy quality wine. A definite 5-star experience!“

“We were three women. Everything was very nice. The food was perfect. The only thing that bothered my friends was that the asparagus was cold under the salmon. It didn't bother me, but they would have liked it a little warmer. All in all, great experience.“

“My steak was great, juicy and delicious, however my Husband's salmon was raw in the middle. Waiter never checked on us, after the food was served. By the time he came around the other 3 people were finished. Mixed feelings about our experience. We dine here frequently, and will return.“

“My boyfriend and I come here frequently and Abigail's never disappoints! It’s our favorite place to eat out because of how exceptional the food and service is. You can tell this is a restaurant that really cares about the experience you have and somewhere you know you are in good hands. It’s pretty rare to not have even a small hiccup at a place you go to a lot, but somehow, they manage to nail it every single time.“

“I was always resistant to trying bar food but my son loves going there with his friends so, I had to give it a try and to my surprise, the food was absolutely amazing. I used to only order the sample platter, steak sandwich and chicken wings but last night I tried their steak fajitas and it was surprisingly spectacular. Their margarita didn't taste as authentic as the food made by authentic Mexicans. However the manager was kind enough to offer me an amazing old fashioned and the bartender nailed it making my experience even more special. I'm not a fan of dive bars but they make you feel very welcome definitely turning into one of my regular places to go!“

“While unassuming and a little out of the way, there's nothing better than a restaurant/bar with a small town feel, cheap drinks, and an interesting menu. The bartenders were easygoing and helpful, the other patrons were very chill, and we were able to find our own spot and enjoy the day. We went on a Saturday afternoon/evening and had an excellent time.“

“My first visit there. Saw promo on TV. However, I was not aware that there was a cover charge. I assume coverage for the live entertainment. I enjoyed both the Irish band music and the Trinity Children Dancers. The food was right on point! Authentic Irish corn beef/cabbage. It was a bit crowded and noisy, but that was to be expected--it was St. Patrick's Day!“

“Took the family out for Sunday breakfast and we were excited to visit this spot. I was looking forward to the Llpingacho Benedict, which I was so curious about. The flavor was very good and unique with the potato cakes and grilled tomatoes. Surprisingly, the most tasty item we had were the pancakes. My son ordered the oreo pancakes and I had a bite of it. I was floored by the rich taste and texture of the pancakes. I'd return just for those. Before ending this post, I cannot forget to mention that they have outstanding service and hospitality. Check this spot out, you won't be disappointed.“

“Beers were great as expected. We were not impressed with the nachos. The meat was tasteless and hard to separate so lots of meat in a bite or no meat. The cheese sauce had a nice wang to it and chips were ok. Will try something different next time.“

“It is so refreshing to meet an owner who is actively present in his restaurant. Mark Salmon enthusiastically and creatively arranged for my friend and I to dine outside (our request), despite the rain. We stayed dry under umbrellas and thanks to Sandra, our amazing waitress, we celebrated my birthday with fine food (impressive menu choices and food presentation) and great company! It was my first time dining at 501 Local and this restaurant met and exceeded my high standards in every way! It is a hidden gem and our new fav restaurant. Highly recommend!!“

“Food options and preparations were excellent. Dishes creative. Service outstanding and gracious. Choices of desserts superlative as it also had a patisserie. Wanted to try them all. “We had dinner here during our visit to Chicago. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The server made us feel right at home and was so helpful in giving recommendations. I had the steak salad and taco soup and my husband had the carnitas sandwich, all were phenomenal. We had such a good time that we decided to stay and move over to the bar after dinner. Highly recommend and we will be visiting again!“

“Everyone who works there is awesome. One of the guys there gave me some game changing recommendations/modifiers to try in the breakfast burrito! Healthy and delicious. It’s pricier than I’d like, but that’s everything these days and you can’t beat the fresh ingredients found here. They’ve hooked a repeat customer!“

“Breakfast at 11:00! Yes! Love a Sunday late breakfast! This is the place to go for breakfast! I haven't tried their lunches yet. My breakfast was a veggies skillet. The potatoes were the best I've ever had, nicely seasoned and crispy. Veggies included were spinach, “

“The staff, management and Chef are amazing. We are regulars at this establishment for a reason. The reason is their ability to understand their guest! My special needs son had a moment where I have to leave before I ate and with his to go food. The Chef, Manager, and servers took amazing care of my daughter and hubby and made sure to send my favorite items home with him so I had dinner.“

“This is one of my husband’s and my favorite place! We were a big fan of Creperie St. Germaine so we are so happy that they haven’t completely changed the delicious menu and the interior is the same cozy place we love! And the crepes are to die for! This place is freaking AWESOME!!!“

“I LOVE this spot. The previous location had a lot more character, but I’m so glad they kept the fun tables. I definitely miss the late hours from the previous spot. My hubby and I had lots of date nights/mornings at that location. But nothing bad to say about this spot either. Just my own personal opinion.I’m glad they’re still open. Food is amazing! You got to come and eat here if you have not!“

“First and foremost, the staff of any restaurant are the ones that truly keep an establishment running and thriving and are the heart and representation of the business. The hostess / order-taker and crew at Stacked and Folded, were super friendly to us and offered such great customer service! The atmosphere inside is very nice and offers an elevated casyal food experience.Even though the average taco is around $6.50, it is very large and offers a lot of the actual ingredients. This was the case with my short rib taco. The short rib taco did offer a little bit of that spicy hot but not too much which was good, and yes, was slightly sweet in the sauce as advertised. Overall, the flavor combination was very good and would rate it a 3.9 out of 5. It was just tender and juicy enough, but could even be a little bit more tender in the meat. I know it is not easy when it comes to short ribs and believe me they did a good job here! It is worth getting! We had also ordered the short rib sandwich, but I recommend to have the short rib in the taco form. It just taste even better with the corn tortillas! The sweet potato fries are a five out of five star! Some of the best I’ve ever had in my life. They are cooked perfection, and have that right texture on the outside and perfect on the inside. Amazing. Now as a cook, my (James’) critique is focused on the shrimp taco. Like every other item, Katherine and I had, the shrimp taco is made in a very fresh and flavorful, non-greasy and healthy tasting manner. What observations and what can be worked on from the creators of the menu is the following:The shrimp in your shrimp tacos-at least when we visited—was just plain cooked shrimp and was actually dry. My advice based on the best shrimp tacos I have ever encountered or made are taking thawed raw shrimp, then marinate them of course, and grill them briefly and just right so that they come out juicy and tender and with that amazing flavor profile. That would make your shrimp tacos a five out of five.“
“We came here for Restaurant Week and ordered the menu with wine pairings! Every pairing was delicious and chosen well! And the waiter was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the notes in each wine. I'm a huge fan of beef wellington so I was a little disappointed at the portion size of the short rib wellington but it was tasty. Overall, we had an enjoyable meal!“

“We were celebrating a birthday of a relative, and the food and service were great. However, there are two rooms where we were in one of them, and the sound of music and laughing and stuff carries from one room to another, interfering with speakers and conversations. Also, to get to a bathroom we had to walk through a room where other people had their own party, essentially violating their privacy. Still a good choice with reasonable prices.“

“This was probably our fourth time at this place, so we enjoy coming back. We find it to be just the right combination of elegant and down to earth. We arrived on time for our reservation, and we were seated right away. The service was very pleasant but this night the kitchen service was quite slow, so not the best there. From the menu's standpoint, it's hard to pin down but I feel like I get a strong french brasserie influence with a couple of quirky but fun dishes like escargots and steak tartare, although most of the menu does not necessarily go with that theme. Also, bear in mind that the menu changes from time to time, which I think is great but which might throw off the creatures of habit out there.I had steak tartare for appetizer. It was fantastic. I had the braised pork shoulder for dinner, which I thought was good. My table mates had burgers, which they said they enjoyed. We also had the Caesar salad. It is a very simple deconstructed version. It was good.I almost forgot. The cocktails were good. I had a cocktail with beet juice. I know that sounds weird, right?! But, it was great! Sorry, I don't recall the name.I'd recommend this place for repeat visits to try what they have on offer between the different iterations on the menu.“

“We had a really nice dinner here a couple days before Christmas. It has a really cozy neighborhood feel and the waiter was super nice. They have a daily happy hour which was awesome, we got mussels and cocktail shrimp for a really good price. It is very family friendly, they were very kind to our toddler. The best thing we ate there among many good things was the apple galette dessert, it was amazing.“
