“I didn't know this restaurant was there because it isn't advertised at the entrance to the shopping center. But I'm so glad it's there.
Parking: There is parking next to and in front.
Kid-friendliness: There is no recreational play area but it is comfortable for children
Wheelchair accessibility: It is suitable and has enough space for a wheelchair.“

“I had Jipai Jianbing and it was delicious. The staff said that the one with raw pine was the best, but since I don't like raw pine, I ate it with jianbing and have no regrets. The jianbing is so big that you will be full even if you only eat half of it. Those who are not familiar with the spice may not like it, but those who are familiar with it may enjoy the nostalgic taste. The cream fries were also delicious. The fries were clean, but it felt like they were fried in clean oil. The Shojwabing was a little disappointing, but the Jianbing and cream fries were so delicious that I want to visit again the next time I go to Chicago!“

“Absolutely delicious! The hot and sour soup brought the heat, but didn't over power the flavor. We also had a variety of the dim sum, the best was the pot stickers. Fun atmosphere, great service“

“This is definitely some of the better dim sum I’ve had. I’m not sure what it’s called but my favorite one is like shrimp amd egg and it’s a little toasted. And the custard tart is so good. The crust is so flaky“

“I had a craving for some good halal Mexican food, and my friend recommended this place! I wasn’t sure what to order, but the worker Shayaan gave me lots of options and told me what he recommended! I had a great experience, and the food was delicious! Will be making this my regular spot!“

“Amazing food and fast!! My friends and I really enjoyed dinner at Sun Wah!!“

“This spot is primarily for takeout, so dining in wasn’t the best experience, as service was minimal. The food was decent, though the options were limited and nothing stood out above what you’d find at an average Sichuan place. The garlic pea pods were a solid choice, though.“

“I been going to this restaurant since 1989… original owners are still there. Food is tasty and full of aroma. I take family here when we have visitors. I live an hour away now so I make sure I stock up. Portions are perfect! I Recommend a 100%“

“This place is SIX stars. The dumplings are actually homemade and you can see them making them. The quality is like Din Tai Fung (Taiwan based) or Koi Palace (Daly City/San Francisco) but in a small Evanston strip mall. ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC.
Order ahead because they steam to order.“

“Our favorite Chinese food restaurant in Chicago. Staff is friendly, food is delicious no matter what we get. Some of our favorites are the Wash Sun Chicken Wings, Noodle platter, Ma Po Tofu - but honestly anything is delicious from here.“

“This place caught me off guard all across the board. The building is unassuming but it’s fire in those walls. The portions were huge of course. The general tso and sweet and sour were crazy. We got the egg rolls too. 45$ including the tip. I’m so full that when I got home I didn’t reach for any sweet snacks. Just go in there.“

“I can't believe I haven't review Young's before! I've been going here for years. Best American-Chinese takeout in the area. I've tried half a dozen within a few miles' radius. Everything is tasty, great value, and the owners are terrific. My personal faves are Governor's Chicken and Beef Chow Fun. Strongly recommended.“

“Western Union sponsored my fortune cookie. My fortune said, "Your heritage and values define your journey - embrace them as you move forward". Then on the back there was an ad for Western Union. I don't want my fortune to be sponsored, but maybe this is just the world I need to get adjusted to. Any unused space is wasted space. Instead of just having things be, we should look for how things can be used to promote a message. So that's what I've started doing.
There is so much wasted space on grave tombstones. Instead of just having a person's name, birthday, deathday, and small quote...why not throw in an ad. "Allstate, you're in good hands", that could be reassuring for loved ones and could drive business for Allstate, win win.
If you want a sponsorship on your tombstone, first you have to live a life worth sponsoring. No company is going to sponsor a tombstone that is getting zero views, that's just bad business. They need the best cost per view. A person that positively impacts a bunch of people throughout their lifetime is going to drive way more traffic to their tombstone than someone who isolates themselves from the world. Anyway, the advertisement in my fortune cookie threw me off, but it didn't take anything away from how amazing these Korean vegetable dumplings were.“

I have to say after reading the reviews it's definitely a must buy. Im literally addicted to this food as of right now. It is soooooo good and always fresh. The service is quick and the lady at the front desk is always so kind and respectful. I would recommend anyone to go get a bite. Thank you for your service and good original food.“

“I absolutely love this place. I’ve had 2 other Cantonese restaurants I can say I’ve enjoyed and honestly Hunan Star is by far my favorite now. Pan fried noodles, veggie fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, Mongolian beef. All amazing. Do yourself a favor and grab this when you are in Evanston.“

“Been going to this place for 5 years. Place is always fantastic, service is always good and professional. Love the food.
Dietary restrictions: You can always tell them if you want to cut down on salt for some dishes. Such as msg, sauces, and having your food at a certain spice level. Really helped me a lot.“

“This was my first time in Glencoe to watch a show at Writer’s Theater, and I stopped by this place for a meal before the show. It seems to be the only Chinese restaurant in the entire town and also one of the few places both open at night and relatively affordable.
My friend and I ordered the Walnut Shrimp Special and Sauteed Green Beans. We were told it would take 30 minutes, so we sat inside to wait, and the food came out right on time and piping hot. You can’t dine in the restaurant though, as they don’t have a dining license.
9 times out of 10, Chinese takeout will always hit for me, and Shanghai Garden was no exception. The green beans were flavorful and well-sauteed. The walnut shrimp had a nice crispy texture, tangy taste, and also came with broccoli and crispy noodle pieces.
The portions are large for the price and they also included a large box of rice with our order. For just $15 per person, we had a good amount of leftovers. Overall great value, tasty food, generous portions, friendly service— I would love to return if I’m in the area again!

“I have been eating here for over 20 years! I used to live right around the corner! Even after moving out of state, I ALWAYS come back to eat here when I am in Chicago. They have always been great. The food is amazing. I’ve been to more Chinese restaurants than I could count all over the country and not one can compare to Lee’s Chop Suey. Hands down 10 out of 10 stars. “I live near the Chicago Marathon, and it’s rare to find a Chinese restaurant in a residential area. I have to say that the price is really cheap, and the portions are American-sized. Three people ordered a portion of fried rice, egg rolls, and a bowl of hot and sour soup, and there was more to take away. go back. There are also additional snacks, which together with the service fee are $26. It's a pity that I was too hungry and forgot to take pictures. It's really worth recommending.“

“Every now and then you run across a hidden gem. Like a former Chinatown chef who has opened his own place. I have enjoyed superb Chinese food from this restaurant for decades. You know it's good when you'll go out of your way for simple dishes like their BBQ pork fried rice. Try the shrimp in garlic sauce, or orange chicken. Most highly recommended. Family atmosphere.“

“Gorgeous and fresh food, cozy dining room, great smells welcome you as soon as you enter the restaurant. The combination fried rice and three delights with three chilies entree were delicious. The restaurant is decorated richly and feels expensive but unfortunately the dining experience doesn’t match that. We dined on a Friday evening and they were extremely short staffed, literally one waitress running the whole dining room (which isn’t small) and the pickup orders (which was also a lot) and one other person bussing the dishes from and to the kitchen that was all. They basically had to run around to make it. The service was still not slow though, just out of breath and rushed. The menu is extensive with over a 100 items on it, it might be overwhelming for some, it comes as a takeout menu printed on thin paper and twice folded. We never received a drink menu, when we asked they said they had only beer, coke and ginger ale available. The vibes make you think they would have a full bar with a cocktail and wine menu ?♀️ Overall it felt like watching a movie with un-synced subtitles. I would come back here for the wonderful food and not expect anything more than low key vibes, which is fine.“

“For me, this is THE best Korean-Chinese spot in Chicago. Sure, there are places like Yu's Mandarin, Chef Ping, Great Sea, Great Beijing, etc but they don't focus only on Korean-chinese food like Lai Lai do, hence in my opinion, Lai Lai serves the best Jajangmyeon and Jjambbong.
Now, Jajangmyeon comes in many varieties, but most people aren't aware of the differences:
Regular Jajangmyeon: All ingredients are stir-fried, then water and starch are added, resulting in a familiar starchy texture with added sugar or salt.
Gan Jajang: Cooked with just oil, it tends to be more oily and has a stronger "fire" taste from longer stir-frying, often more salty.
Uni Jajang: Ingredients are minced, so the dish lacks visible ingredient shapes and texture but brings out most flavor.
Sam seon Jajang (precious ingredients from sky, land, and sea): Originally with expensive items like shrimp, abalone, and pork, now often substituted with squid and cheaper ingredients.
Tray Jajang: Essentially +2 portions of Sam seon Jajang without the expensive ingredients.
I mention this because in Chicago, there are very few places offering these varieties, and even fewer doing it well. No one specializes in it quite like Korea, and the closest I've found to matching Korean taste is regular Jajangmyeon from Lai Lai.
I can also go on about Jjambbong and the chicken as you see on the picture but perhaps on another review...“

“Very happy that found this place has reopened. We used to come here for lunch and dinner, there is no other Asian restaurant in north shore we feel good to enter to eat. The menu with varieties and many Asian popularities dishes. Think this may be comparable from south Canal street China Town and the best one in the north shore neighborhood.
Parking: there is plenty free parking spaces.“

“We order for pickup from En Lai a few times a month, and their food is always fantastic. My faves are their Orange Chicken, General Tso's, and their chicken with cashew nuts. They give us lots of rice, and the orders always have a ton of meat and veggies. Make sure to come hungry, because you will have a lot to eat!“

“I ordered the egg foo young and kung pao pork dinners, plus pot stickers. All were good, and I was very happy with the portions for the price. I just wish I'd known that there were cashews in the kung pao pork. It's difficult to see the ingredients in their online ordering options. I hope they get a real website with menu information one day. The pot sticker skins could have been thinner as well.“

“First time doing hotpot! You select your broth, I like that they have a half/half option so you can try a couple flavors and spice levels. You can order the main meats and the rest is self serve, you go up and grab whatever veggies/ additional meats, they also have a couple of cooked sides and a build your own sauce station. Fun experience, fairly priced, I'd go back!“

“My Mom and I were looking for a new (new to us) Chinese-American restaurant. Palace Cantonese surpassed all expectations. Every plate we had was delicious and food was hot. The service by Calvin was outstanding.
We entered the restaurant and were the only ones during this late lunch time. We sat in the comfortable and cozy booth (firm for what my back needs). Right away, Calvin brought delicious hot tea and water. The Fried Won Ton, which is hard to find without meat, was perfectly fried, not soggy. The cup of egg drop soup was a generous portion, more like a medium bowl. The veggie egg rolls were large and tasty. The Chicken Szechuan, was like a kung pao chicken and very flavorful. I loved the touch from Calvin bringing extra peanuts without us asking. He also asked if we needed more tea even though our steel carafe was half full. At similar restaurants, I’ve not seen that service.
The final touch was receiving 2 almond cookies (plus fortune cookies), which my Mom and I love.
It’s my new favorite restaurant which I will be patronizing every time I’m in Chicago.
Parking: Restaurant in small strip mall.“

“Found out about Jin Asian Cafe from a local Facebook Group. It’s one of if not the ONLY place in Chicago that has ABC- Almond Boneless Chicken (War Su Gai) which is a Southeastern Michigan / Northern Ohio staple. I ordered it immediate and was blown away by how deliciously authentic they prepared it - just like what I grew up with in Michigan. Crispy breading, tender chicken, and mouthwatering gravy. Jessica the owner was so welcoming and recommended other specialities which I’ll try on the next visit. Definitely check it out!“

“They're fine for what they are which is a city version of a strip mall Chinese restaurant. It's not particularly inexpensive unless you get a lunch or dinner combo. That's their strength. Otherwise they sometimes close a little early if it's slow. They're not very friendly though not rude. And the quality and timeliness is very inconsistent. My advice, go well before closing and get a combo. If you need more than 3 packets of sauce total, ask them or you won't get it. And they never include hot mustard sauce if you like it, which I do. It's average but not bad.“

“Thank goodness this place exists. This is your classic Chinese-American take out joint and the food is simply delicious. We ordered two dinner specials and a crab rangoon app - generous portions, hot, fresh, and tasty. Specifically, there is an element of “wok hay” (a Cantonese phrase denoting smoky aroma and flavor) present in the cooking that makes it 5 stars for me.
Don’t expect any level of “service”; that’s not the point here. This is a mom and pop shop operated by weary food industry veterans. Just pick up your plate, quit yapping, and enjoy what you ordered because you won’t regret it.
Friend chiming in: Regarding the service, the woman is lovely. You get everything you need and neither more or less, perfect in my opinion.
Parking: Small parking lot but easy to navigate“

“I had the orange chicken and crab Rangoon. It isn't your typical Chinese takeout. When you walk in you may think so, but the food is definitely above the normal Chinese takeout. It was crispy and the sauce was great. The crab rangoon were huge and had a lot of filling. I will be back for sure.“
