“I arrived to pick up my online order of 2 Ruebens and one mint milkshake for my mother's 80th birthday! Low and behold, there was a mistake and it had been taken with another online order by mistake. They graciously paid for my children's slices of pizza while we waited and then refunded the entire order. They went above and beyond and we weren't expecting that. Anticipating needs, attention to detail and gracious with the mistake that can happen. Can't wait to return. I had heard they had the best Reubens you have EVER had and my mother agreed. Just not what I normally expect at an ice cream “shoppe” (shoppe with that spelling always has a quant vibe), with quotes on the walls about dead humans and such. Clearly a lot of love goes into the decor, and I’m not tucking anyone else’s yum- hence the five stars. But I did worry that the mannequins and paintings might give a young kid some nightmares. Fortunately he mostly looked at the ceiling, which is a super cool cloudscape. So, yeah. Amazing service, ice cream, and super friendly… just feels at odds with the decor.“

Weekends start off right with an SBK pizza on a Friday night. I’ve been coming here for years. During Covid, SBK became my local grocery store. “I was in the area for a show at the Vic Theater and saw this place was close by. I'm glad I decided to stop in because this place was amazing. I ordered the country fried steak, and they had it ready within 10 minutes. The meal was delicious. The seitan steak tasted almost exactly how I remember real country fried steaks to taste. The gravy was savory, and the potatoes were super creamy. If I'm ever in the neighborhood again, I'll definitely be coming back. While everything on the menu is vegan, vegetarians can get real cheese and eggs if they ask. Since the restaurant is located in the Northhalsted neighborhood, it's also a safe space for LGBT folks. “Food was amazing. An incredible selection of savory and sweet. I had trouble picking which one of the four very different things I ate was my favorite. The only real downsides are twofold: there isn’t a great coffee selection (since that isn’t their primary function) and there is very limited seating. Don’t let that discourage you because everything is easy to eat on the go or in your car and they will package it for you by default. Adding this place to rotation!“

“OH! Are you in for a TREAT when you dine here. The food is sensational. We have traveled all of the world and lived all over the United States. The cuisine here is unique and out of this world. The recipes are unique to this restaurant. We have eaten at other Ethiopian restaurants. They do not even register next to this one. The Proprietor is SOOOOO nice. And, ask him what brought him to the United States. It's an emotionally moving story. If you haven't had Ethiopian cuisine before, it is NOT scary. There are hardy vegetarian and meatatarian dishes. So, there's something for everyone. And, the dishes that are spicy are mild. So, don't worry about your sensitive belly. The meal is a SHARED experience. So, make sure you bring friends. I love that when I go there they have everything fresh and everything is in stock and if there’s a waiting time, it’s not more than 10 minutes and the cookies are amazing for dessert. I love that the food is gluten-free even the cookie!

This Christmas, I decided to try their take-n-bake kouign-amann; and OMG my family and I were IN LOVE with the Ham & Gruyere kouign-amann! “So today I had a friend in from out of town and we topped off our afternoon with a visit to Miski Bakery. I was dying to try the alfajores, and they did not disappoint! The very delicate morsels melted in our mouth, and the creamy luscious dollop of dulce de leche caramel was a perfect pairing. In addition we tried the Milhojas/Napoleons in two flavors the Lucuma pastry creme and also the dulce de leche. A thousand layers is correct, these were amazingly tall, crispy and filled with air, both were delicious but the Lucuma(a Peruvian fruit) pastry creme was the standout. It had such a delightful delicate flavor I had never tasted previously. After speaking with Carmen the owner I asked whether or not they ever carried Turrón de doñja Pepa. She just happened to have some freshly baked sitting on the tray behind the counter, but alas it was still awaiting its filling. This gives me a great reason to return and indulge in that special treat. It is prepared every other week. The service was warm and friendly. This is definitely a hidden gem in the neighborhood you shouldn't miss out on. I will be returning often.“

“I recently was looking to have our wedding cake recreated as a surprise for our anniversary. Our wedding cake was specific to Europe/Ireland and seems to be hard to come by in the states. After contacting several bakeries, none were willing to attempt it. I finally got in contact with James. The result blew us away. The cake was not only beautiful, it tasted amazing! James and his team were incredible to work with. I recommend using him if you are ever looking for beautiful and delicious cakes or have specific requests. We will definitely be using Sugar Daddy in the future!“

The fried pickles with their dipping sauce were a fun surprise, really good.

Also, I enjoyed the Burrata pizza. Although it tastes great on it's own it could have used a balsamic glaze to sweeten it a bit. My friend opted for the Kimchi fries (slightly spicy) and the fruit pizza. It looked like a healthy summer salad, covered in feta and fruit, and was told it was pretty good.

Parking was a bit of a struggle. We found street parking behind the location in a residential street.
