But Khairi stepped up and made me my order. She was the sweetest, took a look at my drinks and immediately assured me that she will take care of them!

This made me and my whole family's entite night, 10 of 10 for everything!“

“Natives/Tourists/Passerby- Run, don't walk to the Lot 38 coffee shop! This must be your first pitstop in Navy Yard.

Do yourself a favor and skip those gross burnt bean chains with sketchy customer service where you feel like you're interrupting them as they forget your order. IYKYK.

Instead, head over to family-owned Lot 38, opened and operated by the sweetest folks who know the Navy Yard area well. Corner of L and 2nd SE on the same side of the street as the lobby of the Courtyard Marriott and across from the park.

The espresso brews fresh and the coffee drinks are consistently a 10/10. Lot 38 has breakfast and pastry options, both breakfast and lunch sandwiches too if you need a bit more filling bite with your brew to start the day's adventure. One of the friendliest places, this shop is always hopping and a fun community atmosphere. Even when it's packed, there's not a long wait for drinks or food. If you come by long enough they start to know your name and drink order. Good place to pop by, a nice (CLEAN!) place to meet up with your friends, or come by for a tea or coffee pick-me-up at the tables upstairs.

“This is hands down the best cafe in the DC area. They take coffee making down to a science and do it with attitude. The ambiance is great.

It’s a big bike (bicycle) hang out spot over the weekends, lots of folks riding on the Rhode Island Ave Trolley trail divert here.

Their food options are very light but they do have decent pastries and bagels with cream cheese.

But all that other stuff aside, if you are a coffee enthusiast, you MUST check this place out. It raises the standard for coffee in the greater dc area.“

“I love the atmosphere of this place. When you enter La Cosecha, you’re welcomed by a variety of restaurants and small local businesses — it feels vibrant and creative.
But I’m focusing on Café Unido, because this coffee comes from my home country, Panama. So every time I’m in Washington, I have to stop by.

The space is filled with beautiful natural light coming through the large windows facing the street — perfect for enjoying a slow moment with a cup of coffee. The aroma and flavor are exactly what I expect from good Panamanian coffee: rich, smooth, and full of character.

I believe they could take even more advantage of how special it is to have a Panamanian coffee franchise in Washington — it deserves to be highlighted and promoted more. I truly hope they open more locations around the city so more people can experience it.

“This is absolutely one of my favorite places to go! The Roost was my go to during the pandemic with tons of outdoor seating. Since it was in my neighborhood we frequented a lot. The staff watched my little one practically grow up there! It became our meeting place and neighborhood watering hole. Quick and efficient and some of the best food and customer service! We’ve moved from the area but always stop by when in town because it feels like home!“

“When I moved to Capitol Hill, I was blessed to find I live within a block of Jacobs. This coffee shop is cute, cozy with the nicest owner (Jas) and staff. Its quaint inside and has a larger patio with lots of seating outside. The patio is perfect during the fall and spring. It's also a dog and dog owner's dream! They had a little tin of treats for the dogs near the door, my dog knows and drags me to Jacob's anytime we passby.

I always get their iced caramel macchiato and my favorite food is the bacon egg and cheese on an english muffin. It's perfect everytime!

I love the consistency of this place and always bring my out of town friends here. Do yourself a favor and pop by the next time you're on the Hill.“

“Cute spot, good oatmilk cappacino, and fast food made on order. They have a lot of bread options and turkey bacon or sausage as we as the regular ones. Limited seating in winter but enough and looks like a fun patio for warmer weather. It's in a a neighborhood and good for people watching and just being a part of daily routine of DC.“

“I come here regularly to work or just grab a drink, and it’s easily one of the best coffee spots in the area. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and you’ll notice a lot of regulars who enjoy coming here. “Was in the area and just dropped by to check it out Ko's Kitchen. Was greeted with a friendly smile by the owner (I believe) and restaurant was nice and had plenty of tables for eating. I was hungry so I ordered the Loco MoCo platter with a fruit smoothie. Good flavorful dish for putting some meat on your bones! Nice local small family business to support.“

“I’m fairly new to road biking and had just bought a new to me road bike from FB Marketplace. I had sent an email through their contact form which Laurie answered and gave me enough reason to bring my bike to Proteus. I brought my bike in this past Saturday. The first person that greeted me was Paul. He checked over my bike and let me know that my bike was really in great shape and made a few minor adjustments that he didn’t charge me for. He replaced my seat and clipless pedals with flat pedals. Literally everyone in that shop made me feel comfortable and welcome. Laurie, Jeff, Duncan, Andy, Paul, yall are amazing and made me feel at home. I live in DC, but Proteus is my go to bike shop now!“

“What a welcoming little Ethiopian coffee shop! Once a market, Dire Coffee opened in 2020. Family-owned, Dire Coffee serves Ethiopian coffee beans in all different ways- black coffee, lattes, and more. I ordered the Pumpkin Spice Latte. It came out hot and strong. The woman behind the register, who's the wife of the owner, asked how sweet I wanted my latte. She was very kind!

To eat, they have a variety of food. I ordered one sambusa and it was filled with lentils. It hit the spot!

The space itself is small, but comes with many places to sit. There's a small parking lot out front.“

They did forget one of our food items so I had to ask, but they solved it right away and the worker in charge of calling food helped us find a spot to sit. That being said, the atmosphere is kind of hectic, it was SUPER busy, which this place is popular so it makes sense. Seating is super limited and it seems like they have more people going for food than to sip on a coffee and work so there were a handful of people sitting with laptops at huge tables working while tons of people ordering food didn't have a place. Feels like they need to just kind of lean into what they want to be and have a order first system then get seating. Other than that, inside is a vibe and very aesthetic!“

“This place is ALWAYS clean and it’s something I personally look forward to when considering repeat visits. This is a consistently delicious and welcoming business in the area that’s starved for quality restaurants and shops. The service is always notable — whether a chance meeting with the owner, or a young person who greeted me as I walked in, I always get a warm feeling about making the visit. “One of the BEST coffees you can get in the DMV! Seriously, espresso was dialed in perfectly and milk was steamed exactly as it should be. I enjoyed the roast & flavor profile of the espresso beans. Service was quick. Inside was super super pretty with plants and abundant seating, but it may be too popular of a spot (I like quieter spots to relax lol.)

“The food was delicious and Alejandro was a great server! He was very personable and prompt! We had the salmon cakes, banzino fish, w/greens, red beans & rice. The only thing that needed a smidge more seasoning was the fried green tomatoes. The first time I ordered them they were seasoned perfectly. Other shops tend to miss the CRITICAL mark on creating a space conducive for working and studying. This place offers comfy seating with good background music just low enough to still take work calls. “I recently visited this Dunkin’ Donuts, a location I’m familiar with since I grew up in the area. I generally enjoy their food, and the quality has remained consistent. Mornings can be a bit slow, and at times I’ve had some difficulty communicating with staff due to strong accents, though I want to emphasize this is not a criticism, just an observation. I’ve also noticed that the store seems less busy than it was before the pandemic. Despite this, I find the service to be good, and the overall experience is positive. “Oh my gosh I seriously bought an espresso and was about to give up on Starbucks completely although I’ve been a loyal customer 13+ years. The two in the Navy Yard kept disappointing me, and my last pumpkin spice latte was a mess. I swore I wasn’t going back. But since it’s winter, I decided to try one more location… and wow. 2800 Alabama Ave SE completely changed my mind. The customer service was amazing everyone was upbeat, funny, and full of energy, even early in the morning when I was half asleep. Their vibe LITERALLY lifted my mood. The line looked long but moved super fast, and honestly, I’ll happily drive the extra 14 minutes across the bridge to come here. It’s worth it. And the guy with the dreads? He’s Hilarious! His energy was perfect and he seriously makes everyone smile. I hope he’s at least a manager because he was that good. This is officially my new Starbucks. Best team ever.“
