“My parents and I stumbled across this place on our way home, and what a find it was. From the moment we stepped inside, we knew we were somewhere special. The exposed brick and thoughtful décor struck the perfect balance—classic and nostalgic with just the right touch of modern style. We were immediately welcomed by the sweetest hostess (I hate that I can’t remember her name—she had glasses, a beautiful smile, and the cutest dress). She greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality that’s hard to come by these days. She led us into the main dining room and seated us at a charming table dressed in crisp white linens. The space featured more exposed brick, tasteful artwork, and just the right amount of décor. The temperature was perfect, and the tables were spaced far enough apart to create an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter arrived promptly and was both friendly and knowledgeable. He clearly knew his craft and took the time to walk us through the specials, making sure we felt confident and excited about our choices. We ordered sweet tea, which was perfectly brewed—not overly sweet, just right. The complimentary peanut butter and crackers were something new to us, but after reading about the history behind it, we appreciated the thoughtful touch even more. Our food arrived quickly, and everything was fresh and cooked to order. We tried the spicy chicken sandwich, the cheeseburger, and a special featuring a panini with a cup of gumbo. Each entrée came with perfectly cooked homemade chips. Every bite was spot-on—truly a 10 out of 10. Even though we were full, we couldn’t resist ordering dessert—when in Rome, right? We chose the peanut butter pie and the famous Black Bottom pie. After one bite of those generously sized slices, we all paused and just looked at each other. I don’t exaggerate when I say we unanimously agreed they were the best pies we’ve ever had. What started as a plan to sample a few bites and take the rest to go ended with two completely empty plates. We consider ourselves food lovers, and I genuinely couldn’t find a single flaw in the entire experience. We live nearly three hours away and are already planning a trip back. If you’ve made it this far in my amateur review, thank you—and I truly hope you get the chance to experience this wonderful, history-filled gem for yourself.”

“Christmas eve, and not knowing everywhere is closing, with 2kids my fiancée and i (pregnant) got turned away. McDonald's couldn't make 4-5 mcdoubles, dominoes trying to wave us off before we get in the parking lot, every light on and employees just talking and on there phones. frantically trying to find some food for the kids and i pulled into papa John's, they where closed for about 15 minutes and still sold us food, me and my family will definitely be coming back for more. plus super yummy 😋”

“Best service I have ever experienced at a Chick-fil-A! My husband, 5 month old son and I were passing through on our way to Tennessee. We stopped in for dinner and to feed our little boy. We had already been on the road for about 5 hours so needless to say we were a little worn out especially with our little boy. Kasey welcomed us in and was so sweet to our little boy. I brought a bottle of breastmilk in from our ice chest and was trying to warm it with my hands. Without hesitation Kasey offered a large cup of hot water so we could warm his bottle. She was so thoughtful and it meant a lot to us. I’m not sure if she is in leadership or not, but I think she should be. With that kind of character and care towards strangers, she would do amazing teaching others to do the same. Overall, incredible experience and thankful for such a refreshing place to stop along our trip. December 5,2025 - Kasey made an impact! (I couldn’t remember if her name was spelled Kasey or Kacey)”

“Just ate lunch at the Punjab Palace on the Frontage Road in Meridian, MS. My son ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, while I ordered the Butter Chicken. The location was once the Checkerboard, so it is not a new facility, but it was clean and neat. The staff were friendly and quick. The food was incredible! I mean, incredible. Best Butter Chicken I have ever had. The Naan was perfect. We will go back. Their hours are 11 am to 10 PM EVERY DAY. I can't brag enough about it. Next time I will try the Chicken Currie. I recommend the Punjab Palace for really good Northern Indian Cuisine.”

“No teeth required. First time to eat here , second visit. They’re closed on Sundays and Mondays!! I ordered a rib lunch with two sides. The collards were very good. Of course I used my corn bread to sop up the collard juice. The fried okra was on point. Breading was just right. Now to the ribs, I almost chewed my hand off eating those. I chose the bbq sauce as an option. Sweet and a little tangy. I almost requested a straw to finish straw it! Talk about tasty! The ribs do not disappoint. Juicy, fall off the bone. Definitely recommended. A+++. The staff was very kind. I told them it was my first visit. If you’re in Meridian for a day, stop by this place. It is a must!!!!!”

“Nice set up and layout for eating. Burgers were juicy and delicious and for the bacon burger the bacon was the meeting point of crisp and juicy without being too crunchy. Fries were nice and hot and hot that sweet spot. 5/5”

“The coffee here is excellent. I had a fresh cup along with a chocolate muffin, and both were very good. The staff was friendly, and it’s easy to see why locals enjoy this place.

That said, I wouldn’t recommend it for travelers passing through on the interstate. It took me more than 10 minutes to get here from I-20/I-59, and that’s just farther than I’m willing to go on a long road trip.

If you’re local or already in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit for a quality cup of coffee. If you’re simply passing through, you may want to find something closer to the highway.”

“Update: The Food and Beverage manager, Kolton, reached out to me today and offered a very thoughtful apology for our experience. We are willing to give Boxcar another chance and would recommend that anyone else should as well.

I spent two hours here last night and had one drink. It took 51 minutes for that one drink to come. Then when I asked for our check, I waited 25 minutes before finally going inside and telling the manager (who happened to be behind the bar) that we’d waited almost a half hour for our check and I’d like to pay. We got no apology but she did print off my $32 check for the single round of drinks we got in the time we wasted not being served. There were also only six people there total so it wasn’t like the place was busy.”
