“The barbacoa is delicious and VERY tender. There is a salsa/toppings bar so that you can pick exactly what you want on your tacos. They give you a good amount of tortillas so that you get full. I've had food leftover each time.Service has always been good when I've gone. The workers are kind/respectful and the food comes out quick. The restaurant has tons of open seating and it's a super casual environment. Lots of hungry workers go in for lunch.”
“My wife and I visited here for our first time after a friend highly recommend this place, specifically the Birria Pizza. So, that is what we ordered. It was enough food to feed 3 people with enough left over to warm up in an air fryer, twice more for one person. It was extremely delicious and very filling. It's a lot of food. The staff were all friendly, gracious and accommodating. We WILL definitely be back. Also, we were given a taste of their three different molé sauces and now I can't wait to go back and try their black chicken. Their molé is definitely on my radar now!”
“I've tried so many breakfast burritos in Albuquerque that were ok & overpriced not here. Finally a bomb breakfast burrito with fresh quality ingredients. Taste homemade with love & love is in their red & green sauce made just right for my taste, reasonably priced. Can't wait to try something else on their menu. So glad I found this local spot!”
“Came here yesterday for lunch with friends for the first time! It was a wonderful experience. Food was delicious (we ordered the Monte Cristo and Compuesta plates) and our server was super friendly and extremely attentive! The restaurant was clean and apparently a local favorite because there was not one empty seat in the house! If not done so...I highly recommend giving it a try!Kid-friendliness: They have high chairs for the kiddos!”
“Chicken quesadillas are good. Ive been disappointed by most other restaurants in ABQ but the quesadillas here are reliably good and they actually salt AND season the chicken with more than just chili powder, which sadly cant be said of other restaurants in town. Minus one star because pre-meal chips arent free and you cant get a chip refill, instead you have to order another $8+ paper cup of gauc/salsa to get more chips.”
“We had a truly delicious breakfast here. I had the Eggs Benedict which were properly done. The potatoes are worth noting as extra yummy. Hubby's sausage links were some of the best I've ever tasted, plump and made with plenty of savory herbs. Service was quick and professional.”
“PROS: the food is on point, it was hot, fresh, and flavorful. The prices are reasonable. There’s plenty of parking. The service was great. It’s a no-frills Mexican joint and all the people there were Mexican so that’s a good sign.CONS: cash only, hard to access the parking lot in part due to roadwork, the bathroom was out of order.”
“I just happened to drive by and saw a sign for breakfast burritos. I was very surprised at the service! Very friendly and welcoming for my 1st time. Steak burrito was delicious with Christmas chile. I'll definitely be going back for dine in service next time.”
“Excellent food, great service by our waitress (but they need more staff)! The wait on a table at 1pm was 35 minutes - but worth it. The Carne Adovada was very tasty and tender. I really enjoy the unique salsa and we take it back to Texas regularly!”
“I was smelling the tortillas all morning and they smelled like grandmas!. So lunch rolls around and I knew this would be the place to eat and glad I stopped by being that it has been decades since I last ate here. I am a taco fanatic and try them everywhere I go. La Mexicana's taco's were some of the best I have ever ate. Add the salsa to it and it takes it to another level. The beans and rice were just like g-mas. Sooo goood!! Don't even need honey with the sopa. And for the price, it was a pretty filling meal. Don't second guess this place cause it just might catch you by surprise.”
“I’ve always loved this place ever since they were Chatas. One of the best items they had were their refried beans. They were too die for. I went there yesterday or day before and bought 2 quarts of refried beans because they’re so good. I spent $20 on 2 quarts of beans and then I bought sopapillas and Chili so the total cost me $40 .When I got home, I was disappointed. The beans tasted like dehydrated Beans that you had water to. Nothing like they used to be. I will not go there again. ☹️”
“We sat in the bar area where the environment was calm and relaxing. Service was great and so was the food. They had vegetarian options which included veggie tamales! The manager came by to check on things towards the end of the meal which was a nice touch. We'll definitely be back.”
“Food was good. I tried the huevos rancheros. Had its own unique salsa added on the eggs that I appreciated. Mexican food that didn’t disappoint when I was looking for something that reminded me of mom’s cooking. Patio area was a nice touch. Was greeted by their doggo. If I’m in the area again and wanted something that I know what to expect, I’ll definitely be coming here again.”
“Their website says their mission is to serve authentic Mexican seafood in a family fun environment. To which I say, that was exactly how It worked out. We had a very enjoyable meal of a mixed seafood enchilada and a tostada chicken combo. When I was asked whether I wanted a red or green sauce, I said Christmas like a native New Mexican. The meals were well prepared with chunks of chicken and seafood. Very flavourful. There was a guitar player singing and joining in with those having a birthday party. Quite enjoyable evening - they're fulfilling their mission.”
“Ate here for a late lunch, around 2. Was not busy at all. Waited on right away, and thel food came out quickly. Waitress was very pleasant. They give you free chips & salsa to start. My husband had the small bowl of Posole, and it was huge! I got a combination plate with rice, beans, taco, enchilada, and a chili relleno. All were good.”
“One of the best Mexican restaurants in Albuquerque. The food is always fresh, plentiful, and tastes good. Service has always been top notch. The atmosphere is that of a cafe, not a dinner house. The best part is this is a place you can take your out of town family and friends to and they can enjoy what they are eating, without their face melting.Parking: The parking area is large, but the restaurant has many tables so the lot might fill up.Kid-friendliness: This is a family type restaurant.Wheelchair accessibility: I have seen people in wheelchairs eating there without issue.”
“First time I went there. They are not open on weekends so that makes it harder to go. The huevos rancheros with green chili was great. They threw in, I didn't know they were, a couple of sopapillas, which were good as well. They don't take cards, so make sure you have cash or a check when you go.”
“Ordered from a new place through Grubhub and I loved this red chile. Reminds me of my grandmas. Those fries with weenies was smothered and I loved it. Dipped my torta in the red and washed it down with a beer because it’s spicy ?️ but soo good.”
“Excellent New Mex lunch. Their menu is pretty expansive, with lots of great options that make it pretty hard to decide, but I went Adovada stuffed Sopapilla w/Papitas. It was an Herculean effort to finish the platter, but it was delicious, and that sure helped the cause. Real nice decor to set the mood, too. Staff were pretty busy, but we were in no rush, as three old high school buds gabbing away and reminiscing of decades or yore. I'm not local, but visit every year, so I can see another visit in the future with that great menu...”
“I ordered typical breakfast eggs bacon and green chili. The food was great! They offered tortillas. They have a traditional NM menu. The servers were very friendly. I was impressed with the quick turn around. The food was hot as expected. I will definitely return. This place is a family business and it shows. Well worth the visit. They also have a shop with NM gifts.Dietary restrictions: They will accommodate special requests!”
“Oh man that food was so good, I had the chicken fajitas and they were awesome. This goofy clown I was with had the steak fingers dinner, his was also very very good, If you want to a homestyle atmosphere with good old customer service, excellent food, I highly recommend coming to this place.”
“Have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. Great ambiance, and quality food, and staff that is attentive without smothering the dinners.True New Mexican dinning that isn't all about the heat but more on the flavor.”
“This is a great place if you're in the mood for home cooking with great service. There are often long wait times, but the wait is worth it for the food and atmosphere. If you're in the downtown area and want to experience true New Mexican cuisine, I couldn't rate this place higher.I will note that they have their own "twist" on Sopapillas which are very good, but basically it's an an empanada.Logistically, there is very little parking around the area so you might want to try streetside or at adjacent lots.”
“Might just be because I was starving, but the nachos were deceptively a little spicy and excellent. They looked sketchy at first, with cherry tomatoes and lettuce on top, but some complex tasting, crunchy and crispy nachos were hiding underneath. Also really enjoyed the fancy, self-serve coke machines.Did not enjoy security walking around with visible guns, but maybe that’s part of being on campus. The place was filled with college students.”
“A gem along Gibson Ave near Kirkland AFB. This restaurant has comfortable seating and a menu that will amaze you with numerous options. The breakfast skillets are incredible, the eggs are cooked to your liking, and the French toast is delightful. The corn beef hash was the best, and don't forget to try their homemade breakfast sausage. The papas are delicious! Great service and very reasonable prices.”
“Awesome experience here I definitely recommend it to anyone that wants the benefit of authentic home made tastinng food, cozy welcoming and relaxed atmosphere , toped off with polite and friendly staff. Glad I got the opportunity to experience Papa Nachos Mexican food restaurant.”
“This Hole in the Wall Restaurant is absolutely worth putting on your radar. I have been driving tested for years, and finally stopped into try it. The food is really amazing, and the service is fast and friendly. My chicken burrito came with a very unique rellenos sauce, and I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu.Parking: Enter from Carlisle, and drive past the other businesses set away from Gibson. Google Maps did not do a good job with directions”
“Came into micks today to try a new place. The menu looks tasty as it has some great choices for you! Today I picked the Frito pie with red Chile and beef! I got the half serving which is huge! Lol . It tasted awesome ! Will definitely be coming back to try some more food ! Next on the list green Chile cheeseburger!”
“Amazing food, amazing owners, great music! Everyone was so welcoming, gave off warm home vibes! Like eating at your grandparents house & they take care of you! 10/10 highly recommend to everyone! They’re awesome with kids in general as well, they didn’t pass off judgement like other restaurant owners do! This was overall a great experience!Kid-friendliness: They didn’t pass off judgement & they were just overall great with kids being around!”
“You got it all, Loyola's! So happy I found you a couple of years ago. It took months for me to move past the steak and enchiladas with a pillowy-soft sopaipilla on the side -- they are so damn tasty.... If I like a place, I like to move through the menu very, very slowly so it is hard to comment much on other items. But the Carne Adobada and Chicken Fried Steak are delectable and my family all tell me the other dishes are awesome! All good NM food is based on excellent Chile and both red and green are delicious here. BUT, I have to say the Natillas alone are worth the trip! The space is a fantastic hold-out of those 1950 -1960s diners with the funky mid-century architecture, but the family has made such tasteful New Mexican additions to the decor that it is truly a unique place on Route 66.The service is wonderful. Never have to wait long and the staff is always super-nice and pleasant. I have never had an issue. If there is any one complaint, it is that the restaurant closes at 2pm and not open Sun-Mon. So if you want to enjoy, get in before 1:30p... or earlier because those tasty Natillas run out quickly!”
“We decided to try a new place for lunch and this was close by. It's a small place with a little parking, but what a little treasure! Homemade chips and salsa at your table, the chips still warm in the basket. My BFF said the salsa was "a little zippy", which means hot in the real world. LOLHe got the chicharrones burrito and I chose the 3 rolled cheese enchilada plate. (red on the side) I didn't use much of the red since it had great flavor, but had a punch after a moment. To be fair, my spicy tolerance has lowered, so if yours is average, go for it. The beans were delicious as well. The big surprise was the rice. Layers of seasoning flavor this and I liked it. I normally never like the rice, but this was the first good one I've had. I got the sense this is yummy "grandma-style" cooking. It's only open until 2:45pm, but we'll definitely be back! (I also love those Mexican cokes in the bottle. So much better.)”
“I don’t usually add reviews but this place is so worth giving them one.The tacos were amazing!!!!I’m visiting from Cali and had gone for a dinner at another place that I was so disappointed and then I found this place. The girl that helped me was very friendly and explained their menu to the T…..thank you so much and when I come back to Albuquerque I’ll definitely come by.Vegetarian options: Good options”
“Looooove this place. The food is great, service is awesome, and the family that owns and operates it are awesome! Amazing people and food made with love! The burger… get yourself a green chile cheeseburger and enjoy! Thanks again you guys, can’t wait to visit again!”
“I eat here almost every Tuesday. The food is really good, and the value is incredible. $6 for 4 street tacos with a good amount of meat. No skimping on portions here. Owners are super friendly as well.My only complaint is that sometimes when you request a certain chile (red or green), they don't give you what you ask for.”
“Stopped though and found this gem! For the size of portions compared to prices it’s a steal! We loved it all. Tons of options on the menu. Wait staff is super friendly! California burrito will change your life. It’s massive.. eat here. Eat here often.”
“First, Stranger Things was filmed here! Even if everything else was terrible, this is reason enough to go! But the food was great - we had chorizo and eggs and eggs over easy and the beef green chile stew. The hash browns and sopapillas that came with our meals were wonderful. The price so reasonable, our server attentive and welcoming- we couldn’t ask for more.”
“This on the Pueblo and has such great food. No waiting, just walk up and order from an extensive menu. People at the window are very helpful. They are usually open Friday, Sat and Sundays. Wonderful stuffed fry bread and they still make tasty, hot and crispy funnel cakes. We can never figure out what to order because we want it all!”
“The birthday breakfast includes the carne adovada plate (with beans and rice), papas and a chili relleno smothered in hatch green chili and cheese on the side, and a couple of sopapillas and honey for good measure. Bonus is leftovers for tomorrow ?”
“The food is absolutely incredible. The al pastor was delicious, the chicken chimichanga left me speechless which I didn't think was possible because at the end of the day it's a chimichanga lol, and the steak burrito was so tender. All of the food was so elevated. The portions left us absolutely stuffed after we had skipped breakfast too. The wait staff was so kind and helpful. This place is also spotless! Tables, floors, bathrooms, hell even the lemons were washed before they gave them to us for our drinks. I wish we lived closer so we could make this a regular spot to come eat so please go eat here for us every chance you get.”
“This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've eaten at. It started with just chips and salsa and I tell you that this was the absolute best chips and salsa i remember having in a very long time. The chips were perfectly salted and fried. The green salsa was a little spicy but I didn't care and still just kept eating it because it was so good. The red sauce was just as good only not quite as spicy.I decided on the ribeye burrito because I've had Carne asada burritos, beef burritos, chicken burritos, but I've never had ribeye burritos. It was amazing and I decided to go with the red sauce for it.I can't wait to bring my wife here the next time when we come back through Albuquerque.”
“I would give the management a number one because they did hire D’Angelo made the screen. He was the best waiter. He knew how to take care of us and wait on he gave us plenty of time to order on food. He gave us plenty of options we’re gonna leave him a big tip and you should too.”
“Came here in 2001 it was so amazing and I planned to come back It took 22years but was worth it. We came for breakfast but you can order the entire menu all day and I had Chile rellenos. Amazing!! Everyone else had breakfast and all bragged on their food Also my 29 wedding anniversary. Great celebration!! This place deserves to be more stars”
“Our family put together a last minute early Thanksgiving dinner for a small family reunion and The Range Cafe saved the day! Both Mike and Lo were incredible to work with as they were able to accommodate any late changes we had. Their turkey dinner was incredible along with the green Chile gravy! I’m not a stuffing person, but they have a green Chile stuffing that is to die for. Please don’t forget to order either their pumpkin or apple pies, both were amazing. Thank you Range Cafe!”
“Very impressed! I had the rolled tacos (I knew tham as flautas) and my BFF had a quesadilla. Tons of yummy veggies in his, and I really liked the guac I had for dipping. The salsa was a wee bit much for me, but I'm kind of a spice wuss. Would definitely come back. Waiter was really nice, too.”
“Great addition to the area. We went for breakfast and the whole family was quite pleased. I'm excited to try lunch here. The green and red chile were both solid and the spice level was balanced so my kids liked it and I did too (I wouldn't have minded a bit more heat, but I like it quite hot). My daughters insisted I leave a great review (first time they have said that) and they didn't need to twist my arm because I already wanted to. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!”
“Shredded beef burrito was excellent! Green Chili had a nice bite and great flavor. A definite return is called for. Talked to the owner, very nice lady. Said they make all of their own food except tortillas and they've been there 20 years. Longevity is definitely a sign of good ? food! IMHO...”
“Absolutely fabulous food. Ben served and cooked, chatted with us, and played some jazz piano!Jazz is Tuesday night, not Wednesday night as of November 2023.Also, the opening times in Apple maps are incorrect... this place is open for dinner!”
“A whole in the wall Mexican restaurant, count me in! Worth the price! Worth the drive! Very delicious and on point. On a road trip to CA, found this spot on yelp with great reviews. We tried two carne asada tacos and a enchilada and burrito combo. It was delicious, great portions and just cozy vibe.”
“Interesting place. I was worried about being on Central ( I avoid Central due to that damn bus system and all the homeless but it was a business meeting) but the parking lot had a fence around and it seemed to be respected. They had a cute themed Halloween drink menu, the food was good, Mexican vs New Mexican. Co-workers cleaned their plates so it seems the food was appreciated. Most importantly the wait staff were friendly and responsive. It's especially hard when there is a large group, so kudos for that!”
“Tia Betty Blue's (and Tia B's Waffleria) is one of my go-to spots for good quality food and service. I usually get the veggie omelette with both red and green chili (or just say "Christmas") with a side of papitas (fried potatoes). The blue corn sweet belgian waffle is also amazing. Try it with the lavandar flavored whipped cream! If you're going with a large group, you may want to sit outside. The indoor dining area is not spacious. But that sorta adds to the charm.”
