If you're not already obsessed with Venezuelan food, prepare for a serious love affair. I just had the pleasure (no, the privilege) of dining at **Arepa Café** in Astoria, and let me tell you — my tastebuds are still doing a salsa dance. 💃🌶️

First up: the **Arepa Pabellón**. Imagine slow-cooked shredded beef that's so tender it practically melts into the arepa, paired with sweet plantains that feel like nature’s candy, black beans for that earthy richness, and a hit of salty white cheese to tie it all together. Every bite was a *FLAVOR BOMB* — the kind you wish you could rewind and experience all over again. 🌋💥

Then came the Mami de Pernil, which honestly should be illegal for being this good. Juicy, seasoned roasted pork stacked high, garlic mojo dripping off every corner of the arepa, and just enough sauce to make it messy in the best possible way. “Very nice bakery with a nice selection of baked goods, coffee & teas. I do wish they had more sugar free options aside from a blueberry or cranberry muffin, bit of which was sold out when I went, but that's fine. The Cranberry muffin I had was excellent.“

“The place is definitely smaller than I expected, which probably explains why reservations are a must. The ambience was beautiful good vibes, good music, and a really friendly staff. The drinks were great, mine were strong , and the food was solid overall. My strip steak was perfectly tender, but it could've used a little more seasoning like salt. The mashed potatoes were slightly cold, but it balanced out because my salmon was piping hot. The highlight for me was the birthday moment where they came out with a huge sign and sparkler to sing, which made it feel really special. I'd probably come back again! It's just far from where i live.“

No one needs to tell you that but what’s really cool is that my wife and I went and I’ve been drying out this September but still wanted an experience of trying a bunch of craft cocktails. They killed it. Every drink was so cool and I even bought one of the bottles (photo). It’s just super cool for a place this famous and established to still have a commitment to service so high they’ll cater to some clown who wants to explore off-menu, zero proof cocktails. “Absolutely amazing gluten free food. Shared mozz sticks, truffle pizza, and homemade garganelli with vodka sauce and literally audibly mmmm-ed my way through lunch. Service was warm and friendly. Was so nice to look at a menu and be able to eat every single thing on it. Highly recommend eating here.“

“This was a fantastic experience! From the moment we stepped inside, the staff was courteous, engaging, helpful and knowledgeable. We had a party of 3, and ordered 6 dishes. Each dish came out as it was made and each dish was absolutely delicious. A person in our party had a gluten allergy which was no problem and accommodated with ease. We come to NY every year and this will absolutely be a place we revisit again and again! Vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike will appreciate the dishes and be amazed with the taste! “Honestly was a fantastic place! Food was great (wings, peanut noodles with tofu, and glazed donut), not only because it was gluten free, but just because it was amazing to begin with. There are very few food options when traveling for me since I’m celiac, and unfortunately a lot of the time you can tell the food is gluten free. This place just tasted like regular (non gluten free) Asian food, which is great when you have people with you that are not celiac.

The donut had the ingredients listed and it did not contain grains or oats, which is great as 1 in 5 celiacs are affected by oats (even gluten free oats). They do have a strong coconut flavor from the coconut oil/coconut milk so if you don’t like coconut I would say these may not be for you.

Also to note, as of today they are currently working on building out the inside of the restaurant so it’s only pickup/delivery currently.

When picking up the person that working there was extremely nice, and offered us plates/plasticware since they knew we were outside.

Next visit to NY I will definitely be back!“
