“I typically avoid writing restaurant critiques, given my years of experience in the industry. However, my recent visit to Gramercy Tavern compelled me to share my thoughts due to the disappointing experience. I was excited to dine at the bar after waiting half an hour for a seat. I ordered my usual drink, appetizer, and main dish, knowing the restaurant’s reputation for excellence. However, things took a turn when I stepped away to use the restroom. During that brief moment, my belongings—two bags—were removed and given to the coat check staff without my knowledge. When I returned, I was unceremoniously escorted to the exit, which left me confused and uncomfortable. At the reception, I tried to express my concerns, but the staff was dismissive. I requested to speak with a manager, but the coat check attendant firmly stated there was nothing to discuss and closed the door in my face. This treatment was not only unprofessional but also disheartening, especially after spending $145 on my meal. It’s unfortunate that a great dining experience was overshadowed by poor service and a lack of accountability. I hope the management reviews this situation to prevent it from happening to others in the future.“

“Loved every dish- fluke with black tea, mint and peach(who knew raw fish and fruit went so well together?), amazing grilled artichokes and grilled eggplant. Barely touched my pasta with preserved lemon because I was full, but it was delicious. My daughter’s burger was iconic. The Platonic ideal of hamburgers. Coffee was also delicious. If we had not made a plan to go to La Cabral for dessert and more coffee, I am sure dessert would have been equally excellent.Service was excellent and our waitress was knowledgeable and interested in the food.The fluke reminded me of the first time I went to USC in 1988. I had a plate with raw marinated tuna, raw salmon and raw scallops. The little heaps of fish were so pretty on the plate with their contrasting colors.“

“We had an amazing experience here this evening. The atmosphere was extremely relaxing and chill. The simple artistic decor creates a serene atmosphere. The food is delicious. We especially loved the beef tartar, duck, miso cod, milk bread, and shirt rib. Sticky toffee pudding was rich, but somewhat delicate. Cocktails were well balanced. Their Dutch baby “Primadonna” pancake and lobster roll are to die for. Much of what is on the menu it’s imported from Italy of the finest ingredients. It’s always fun to take the ferry across from Manhattan to the Pepsi Cola Sign and walk a couple of blocks. They can accommodate large groups, children, pets, wheelchairs, (you name it) at their outdoor seating. Run there. 😊💕“

“Our entire experience was amazing. The staff were super helpful, kind and knowledgeable. They recommended dishes to us as well as what made sense for a caviar tasting. We shared one of their tastings and it was enough for 2 people. We added a few side dishes as well and were graciously gifted dessert. The space itself is beautifully decorated. Fun place to host a girls meals or group dinner as well as a date night.“

“Those in the know won't worry to much about 5 leaves not being rated a 4.5 or higher, why you ask? Because it really doesn't matter when the ricotta pancakes are THAT FREAKING GOOD! Seriously every 3rd person orders those pancakes. They also have a great Mocha and black kale salad. If you're not in the mood for sweet fair try the moroccan scramble which is perfect for something light but filling. I got the BLAT on my first visit and it was also good. Now if you're there for dinner been warned the burger is quite filling but it will be worth it even if you gotta waddle home.“

“Found this little gem and reserved for dinner. We were supposed to be in the Crystal Room but our host let us know that there was a big family with lots of kids so we opted to stay downstairs for a quieter meal. The main floor is decorated very nicely and while there were a number of other guests, it wasn't very loud at all. The food and drinks were fantastic, the service was impeccable, and the prices were reasonable considering the area. Lots of vegetarian and gluten-free options as well, for those with dietary needs. I would definitely dine here again!“

“I had to take one star off because this is definitely not a fine dining experience even though that is what they advertise themselves as. If it were not for the food I would have given this a two star review.

The experience was not pleasant. We were seated at a makeshift table, where the window was right behind me. My seat was the bench to the window (essentially where people sit to wait to be seated). I do not know if this is an everyday thing or because they were overbooked but this was not pleasant. The table was right next to the door, so everytime the door opens the wind blasts at us (it did not help that there was a kid that was running in and out of the restaurant). Other guests were standing right next to our table hovering right over us as we were eating and because they were waiting to be seated. For a "fine dining" restaurant there was nothing "fine dining" to it.

The food however was very good. The blending of Asian influences with a modern approach was very nice. The fried chicken was incredible. The inside was still super juicy and soft while the outside was very crispy. That was our favorite dish of the night.“

“The food and service at Robert is always exceptional! Tonight, a friend and I went there to celebrate her birthday. Initially, we were unable to secure a table by the window facing Columbus Circle. The lovely woman at the front desk was aware of our preference and, after a few minutes at another table, was able to move us to a table very near the window. My friend and I have dietary restrictions due to food allergies, and our server could not have been more attentive and patient. We started with the Spring Minestrone soup and the Tuna Tartare. Our entrees were the Spaghetti'd Squash and the Scottish Salmon. For dessert we shared the Molten Chocolate Cake. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented! The atmosphere is serene, and the restaurant is elegant. It is the perfect dining experience!“

Jazz folks this is the real deal. Everyone else should just come and enjoy the magic of live music.

Pro tip: come early for a seat for the 1st set or arrive late to get a seat by the 2nd set (most likely).

We've been staying in the Franklin Guesthouse (hotel adjacent to Madre) for a couple of nights and decided to give Madre a shot - boy were we in for a treat! Firstly, shout out to Armando, who made us feel immediately welcomed with his warmth and energy! For food, we got the Frutti di Mare, Croquetas, Brussels Sprouts, Cornbread Madeleines (compliments from chef) and Chicken - massive MASSIVE props to Chef Bryan and his very talented team. To say that they cooked "well" would be the understatement of 2022. They absolutely blew our minds with top quality medley of ingredients, depth of flavor, and masterful execution in every way. Cocktails were fun and delectable, which added the perfect "pop" to the culinary rocket ship that Madre served up. Just when my wife and I were ready to call it a night, Chef Bryan and Armando were kind enough to bring out the Pot de Creme for us, which was the bow and ribbon on this very special dinner. My only regret of the night was not having enough stomachs to enjoy more of what Madre could serve up. We will definitely be back! Thank you, Madre!“
