“My grandma and I always go here and get pad Thai with mock duck. The food is heavenly! Anything good you could say about the food is true! The duck is crispy on the outside and buttery melt-in-your-mouth on the inside, and the flavor of the sauce is just incredible! The glass noodles are light and have a perfect texture. The regular noodles are filling and also perfect. Oh- and the peanut sauce that comes with the salad is the best peanut sauce you could ever imagine! It’s so addicting, and has a tad kick to it (I think you can only get that at lunch though). My grandma and I only ate there in person a couple times, but the service was great, considering how crowded the restaurant always is (I think the fact that it’s always stuffed to the brim is a sign of a good restaurant :). They had good vibes and a really chill aesthetic. We always get the food delivered, and it comes in a really short amount of time. My grandma also loves this food; we get food that’s not spicy, because we are both sensitive to spice (but if you like spice, they have dishes with that too). I wanted to think of something I didn’t like here, but I can’t! All in all, eat here!! (Also, hack for more duck; when asking for extra mock duck, ask for it in a separate container; that way you can see just how much you’re getting, and they can’t skimp! The logic behind this is when there’s an already full container full of food, you can’t add that much more duck; so when you have a separate container, they can fill it all the way up!)“

It’s giving river town cuz there was a walkway way in the middle that was raised a little. Also loved the aquarium.


Don’t know how I feel about the food. Everything was cooked well, well seasoned, and sauces were great. But I think some of the dishes were lacking depth. But that’s a minor critique.

“Great take on Lu rou fan (minced pork and rice), excellent scallion pancakes and awesome dessert (Tian miantuan) that was like a sandwich of sweet fried dough, golden sesame ice cream and condensed milk (plus cilantro and butter dried peanuts)! Great beverages as well such as the slightly sweetened Jasmine iced tea and Sanzo (lychee & calamansi) sparkling water products!“

“I can’t say enough good things about this place. Firstly, the food is knock out good, my husband and I literally moan with each bite; that’s how good it is. Everything is homemade with such care. The two owners are the sweetest people in the world; I feel seen and so welcomed every time I come in. My husband and I head all the way here from Astoria, Queens! “I was very impressed, moonlighting in the bartender night life for the last 20 years. I normally don’t go out to bars. My sister and myself were down at Lenox hospital for our Dads surgery. One of the desk staff at Franklin Hotel recommended Penrose! The staff, manager and bartender were so friendly. I have to say I was very happy. “Amazing food and service! We had 8 people so we got one of the private rooms. We ordered about 12 dishes and they all came out relatively fast. Definitely get the Peking duck; they cut the duck in front of you and display it really nicely. The Juqi fried rice is also really cool and represents the coal stoves of the past. 10/10 recommend this place, especially for large parties.“
