“Fillmore Deli and Backroom is a pretty solid neighborhood spot with a surprising mix of options. The Korean fried chicken is actually really good crispy, flavorful, and definitely worth trying. They also have a large variety of sandwiches, so there’s something for whatever mood you’re in.

One thing that always throws me off though is they tend to run out of the tuna pretty often, which is strange for a deli. But besides that, everything else seems to be okay. It’s a reliable place to grab a quick bite and the food usually hits the spot.“

“I absolutely adore this old school, multi-generational, Cantonese style bakery. Its pricing and offerings still cater to the old school Chinese crowd. It’s got a huge selection considering its size which translates to a lot of labor and my sense is that they probably rely on volume (fortunately they always seem busy!) for profit like many Chinatown businesses do.

We continue to lose traditional places like this in favor of bubble tea chains and shops that cater towards younger generations and tourists. Please cherish shops like these and keep the Chinatown that serves its own community alive.

“For those who don’t know, plantega (https://eatplantega.com) is a super cool company that gives normal delis ingredients and training to serve vegan versions of classic NY deli food. They have a sign up with the special vegan menu. Make sure you’re very clear that you want the vegan version of whatever you’re ordering. Plantega is a really great resource in NYC, especially if you’re looking for breakfast food; about 70 delis have their menu. I think most delis with a plantega menu cook everything on the same grill but it never tastes off to me. We got steak, egg, and cheese breakfast burritos with just egg and beyond steak tips and absolutely loved them. Updated from previous review on 2026-05-20“

“Great “hole in the wall” spot for light food and great pizza and burgers at a reasonable price. The burger and fries here came with a drink at half the price of what the trucks charge and my daughter loved it just the same as that from the trucks. Got two slices of pizza and a soda for about ten bucks which is great for the area. The pizza was not great and the toppings were generous. We sat at the window and could watch people as they walked by which was entertaining for the kids - there is seating for four at the window and a few tables. The staff was polite and quick.“
