“We had dinner at Matsu on Friday......its a little gem in Hillsdale. We were pleasantly surprised, by the quality and quantity of the food. The Staff went out of their way to accommodate us. They very friendly and warm. It was a most enjoyable dinner. We have ordered food to takeout but hadn't been inside the restaurant since the pandemic.... We will definitely go again soon. “Positive vibes and a great experience. I’ve visited this place several times in person, and I’ve also done takeout a couple of times. The most recent time was takeout. I needed to feed a small group and asked about platter offerings, but was told they don’t have any set menus. They asked what I was looking for and made some recommendations to fit my needs and requested budget.

To say that I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. They delivered and then some. It was a combination of various sushi, regular rolls, and specialty rolls.

They also asked about any potential allergies in the group, along with any specific preferences or dislikes.

The food was fantastic in taste and presentation. It was well packed and came with plenty of ginger, wasabi, and miso soup. They also gave me delicious tea while I waited for them to complete my order.

I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back.“

“After a very long day, I came in get a bite to eat before I went back to traveling. The food is delicious. The staff is incredible. They will go the extra mile for you (literally). After ordering and eating entirely too much delicious food the couple who owns the restaurant gave me a ride to the bus station. The woman who served me was kind and kept me company while I was alone. Really one of the best experiences I have had in the entire state of New Jersey. Thankful for people like you.“

Not much taste on noodles and veggies (cabbage/broccoli) but they were not over cooked. 👍 I definitely prefered that it was not overly salted rather than overkill on the salt. Very fast service.“

Waiter Han and Chef Lou worked so seamlessly together—it honestly elevated the entire evening. “This is the place if you want authentic, high quality, Japanese food. The small dishes on the separate menu are really delightful.

Prices reflect food quality. Be prepared to pay for the best all around Japanese food in the area. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

They run it like fine dining, not like a casual sushi bar. So they have strict rules around noise, noisy kids, and cell phones. Don't expect to bring your kid and set him up with an ipad with the volume on. Seems reasonable. No outside food, no exceptions. Seems reasonable.

The servers were polite, no issues in this department.

“I've been going here for years & the food is great & fairly priced. They have a great maki lunch meal with soup/salad & 3 rollls for a decent price. Their bento box is great! You gey to choose 2 meats plus a roll, shumai, rice & tempura veggies and soup & salad. Very good. Even better they a stamp card & you get stamps for every $25 you spend. Once card had has 10 stamps you get a $25 gift card to apply to your next visit. Honestly, lovely staff & calm environment. So glad its a neighborhood staple.“

Although it’s a seafood restaurant, they offer a variety of delicious Korean dishes. Our favorites are 김치찌개, 돈까스, and 한치회무침—which almost tastes like 물회, just without the soup.
