“In a restaurant world dressed up with disingenuous marketing JOEY Yorkdale offers you a magnificent spot outside downtown Toronto that delivers what it promises on their home page, “Our guests, new or old, are not treated just as guests, but as if they are a good friend we are catching up with.” And this was the experience for me and my two close chums who selected this spot primarily because it was the midpoint between our diverse locations. From first arriving, the hostess took the time to offer a complimentary champagne glass and inquire if our visit that day was for a special occasion. It was a reunion and she graciously followed up with pleasant comments establishing a charming mood. When the waitress came to greet us, she also took the time to find out more about the nature of our reunion and only then flawlessly delved into the menu. I understand this is common practice at luxury restaurants; however, I would contend that, although there are dining establishments that treat patrons similarly, it is not simply about what you do but, rather, how well you do it. And this is the reason I am taking the time to write this review: JOEY does it very well. Having frequented several luxury restaurants in downtown Toronto I can anecdotally share with you that there have been far too many occasions when the host and/or server left a poor impression. Whether it is conceited complacency in their brand or even our own bigotry of unrealistic expectations, there seldom is a meeting point of both food, service, and overall impression. The treatment at JOEY was so genuine that it left an indelible impression. Each interaction with the server and hostess throughout complemented our dining experience. We were then surprised with dessert on the house presented on an expansive serving plate with the words “Happy Reunion!” written in caramel. Delicious, delicious caramel. Mmmm, but I digress… Over the years I have written to restaurants far more complaints than compliments and, in retrospect, this is unfair. It takes a team and a culture to create this magic and it can be quite challenging to get it right. When it comes together as well as it did on our visit, it is the sort of joy that can accompany you throughout your day. At JOEY they seem to have captured the right formula and I look forward to returning and catching up with “good friends” that understand that going out to eat today is about so much more.“

Overall, it was a pleasant experience except for the following: Although the bread was good it was served cold, it seems like it was just taken out of the fridge. The black forest cake tasted a bit stale and was very dry. The lamb dish was very good and well plated.“

I arrived here at 5:50pm.., a single person looking to experience a new to me restaurant. Introducing the pickle barrel.. price point was crazy good. Reservations easy to make. One person for 5:45 pm. Took a minute to find the space, once in waitress was attentive, I ordered an appy and a half priced bottle of wine. Keep in mind it was just me and when I arrived there was no one here in a HUGE space. I also ordered the holiday 3 course dinner... an appy of butternut squash soup, a main of apple chicken and for desert apple blossom. Again, it's just ME!!! They bring out the calamari AND the soup...no big deal. Calamari sucked ballz, timid temp and rubbery as hell..:whatever, calamari is an art that not everyone can master. They also brought the soup at the same time. No big deal, it's just me, no one else here so I have time right?! 🤷🏽‍♀️ Nope, half way through the Calamari they bring my Main... ask them to keep it under the lamp, no problem... 5 minutes later the main arrives... still not done the calamari.... Or the soup Finish the appies and ask them for a container so I can re heat my food when I get home since it's cold/ Great, no prob Keep in mind I got here at 5:50pm it is now 7:51 No desert and no waitress to even ask for it During this terrible dinner service a table of 6 arrived and a table of 3. I know full well a table of 6 scores more dollars than a table for 1 but now I will never come back... so was it worth it? Not for me 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ A complete waste of time! Note: I ended up having to go speak to the hostess to let her know my concerns, get my desert and my bill. It was at this point that the original waitress asked me if I needed anything... I told her someone else was getting my bill. *hostess offered a discount ,wasn't necessary but appreciated.“

“Walked into this place today... not the greatest Shawrma I have had but definitely not the worst... great selections of fresh added ingredients... chicken looked tasty on the spin but lacked flavour. People were plesent ans the food came fast. I ordered a mango drink and the bottle was warm..must me something wrong with tge fridge. overall the price is great $16 bucks taxes in for a wrap and drink....fairly good deal!

The wrap they are using is too thin its more like a crepe. Honestly I have the sandwich 6.5 out of ten ingredients selection is 10 out of 10!

After reading some of the other comments in the question section, we called to confirm the extent to which they are wheelchair accessible. Utterly disappointed to find out that although they have a ramp, the only accessible dining areas are if you're with one of the large groups. Meaning that as an individual with accessibility needs, I was excluded from dining at this restaurant. My accessibility needs are temporary, however you can guarantee I won't be dining at this restaurant even when I'm able to walk again, until they rectify this situation. Inexcusable to exclude people with mobility needs in this day and age.“

“Me & my partner have been going to this restaurant for brunch lately and we absolutely love the place!
The food and drinks have been so great every time & the atmosphere is warm, welcoming & cozy. I also love the unique choice of rugs on the walls for decoration. This place gets very busy on weekends so there might be a wait list but it usually doesn't take that long to seat. My husband and I chose the “surprise” starters and deserts, but we chose our actual meal options, out of fear due to my picky eating. “What a fantastic restaurant. Atmosphere and service were both on point. Dishes & cutlery changed before every new dish, water always filled, and all the items were described in wonderful detail. They even gave us an extra shrimp for the shrimp cocktail! For the stripped bass dish, they also gave us 2 separate portions of fish, which I noticed wasn’t how they served the dish to other patrons. I’m not sure if this was because they noticed we were sharing all the dishes, but it’s a really nice touch that’s easy to miss if that was the case. This is how you make an extraordinary experience. Grey Gardens does it almost on the level of Alo.

The menu is small but all the dishes are very creative and offer good variety. It’s underrated but the bread here is delicious. The red tail grain they use to make their bread is really delicious and the bread comes out so soft in the center but crispy and chewy on the outside.

Another highlight was the maitake dish. The barely they use at the bottom resembles a chewier risotto and the mushroom itself comes out so smokey. Not sure if this was from the cooking or from the addition of the black garlic in the sauce.

Striped bass was also cooked exceptionally well. I’ve never had fish skin that wasn’t battered and fried come out so crispy like I had here before. I just wished there was more of it. The hand torn lamb noodle dish was also very flavourful and the lamb essentially fell apart within the dish.“
