Each :Cup of Chowder, 2 Clam Cakes, Fries, and Fish. EXCELLENT in every sense of the word and good portions! “My go-to order in most places would be a Reuben. The quality of the meat, bread and the balance with the sauerkraut, sauce & cheese say a lot about how the restaurant approaches their food. The 02878 is the best Reuben sandwich I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Now I will have to find another go-to for other restaurants because they will pale in comparison to Localz 02878.“

“As half of a hungry, grumpy couple heading north after a wonderful stay in Newport, we were about to give up on finding a 'decent' place for lunch. The Rt. 114 stretch was becoming increasingly barren.

Then The Publick House appeared on our left, with people sitting outside and a welcoming deep green 'home' drawing us in ... a crazy uturn at 65 mph got us there ...

The obvious sports bar atmosphere was very cool, with star-filled photos and jerseys covering every wall -- ALL signed by some of the greatest athletes to play professional sports in the USA -- a veritable paradise for fans and collectors alike.

Well, I've already spent too many words on a long-winded 'intro' ... but the food was over-the-top amazing ... from sweet-fried cauliflower bites to a queso-corn dip with tasty chips ... and fish and chips with fresh haddock ... and a California Bowl topped with perfectly grilled shrimp! Honestly, we were a bit shocked at the quality and the flavors .... and the welcoming service and attention from Nicole -- it was a very big WOW! .... and a perfect ending to our trip.

We will be back some time. And if you haven't had The Publick House ecperience, get there soon -- you will not regret it ...“

Her attention to detail was impressive, from promptly changing out silverware between courses to keeping our drinks filled without us ever needing to ask. The food was outstanding! The carpaccio was the best we’ve had, and the gluten-free s’mores dessert was absolutely delicious—a perfect ending to the meal. “I had a birthday celebration at this restaurant. We sat near the cozy fireplace on a chilly night. The cheeseboard (varied cheeses, focaccia bread, honey, blackberries, nuts, jam, greens) and Pt. Judith calamari were beautifully presented. Excellent bottle of Pinot Grigio from Tuscany, Italy added to food, Staff was very accomodating. I enjoyed mussels, scallops, little necks over pasta in scampi sauce. Others had the salmon as well as the bolognese. It's a very roomy, quiet setting near the water. Staff came out to sing happy birthday with a luscious ice cream dessert with a candle on top. I was pleasantly surprised. We will return to this place for sure!“

We had mussels and crispy tuna eggroll. For the main we had cod/polenta puttanesca and pasta w/white clam sauce. Both big servings and cooked perfectly. Dessert was crème brûlée and gelato. Service was friendly. The only negative was the noise level, a little loud and close. Still a very enjoyable evening. We will be back.“

“We found Scales & Shells while meandering around Newport, it is convenient on Thames St. We were very pleasantly surprised to find some of the best lobster bisque we've had, with a rich creamy broth & big chunks of lobster. We also found the calimari to be crispy & delicious. The raw clams & oysters were top-notch. All with a cold local beer on tap and excellent service. We'll be back...“

“This was the BEST RESTAURANT we went to in Newport!! All of the seafood dishes were excellent, fresh and tasty. If you’ve ever been to the famous Oyster Bar in Grand Central station, this place is just as good. Definitely NYC prices for oysters $3.50/ oyster but that seemed to be the average price for a lot of the places in Newport.

The scallops were extremely fresh, sweet and perfectly cooked. Also highly recommend the linguine pasta with calms, along with the lobster bisque. The bisque has HUGE pieces of lobster and was the perfect appetizer. For drinks and dessert, recommend the mojito and the chocolate mouse.

This place is definitely worth the trip to Newport!!“

Drinks are reasonable and delicious. Our server PATRICK WAS AMAZING. They explain specials and drinks. Most attentive and all foods were perfectly presented. Wanna another drink, ask and within 2 minutes it’s there. We had wild mushrooms and salmon that were incredible as appetizers. Caesar salad was fresh and lettuce crisp. Scallops special had my wife shaking her head. My seafood linguine was overflowing with fresh seafood. The dessert of “Snowball from Hell” can be shared. Our 54th anniversary was unreal.
