“I have been wanting to go to La Casa de la Abuela (Grandma's House) for a long time. Friends of mine have raved about how good the food is. Well, they were right. La Casa de la Abuela covers every category for a delightful breakfast, brunch or lunch: a menu with great variety, quality delicious food, excellent service, a beautiful and pleasant atmosphere, good parking and a great location.
My friend had the enchiladas suizas. I ordered the chilaquiles rojas con pollo. The menu warned that the salsa roja is spicy... and they are right. 🌶 I like spicy, and this gave me the hiccups! 😄 Not to worry, they have several options, including mild ones.
I was impressed with their molcajete of guacamole, the refreshing strawberry lemonade, the classy presentation of each dish. I almost ordered the chile relleno or the torta ahogada. I learned they make their own birote (a denser kind of bread roll) for the torta ahogadas, which is key for that dish hailing from Jalisco, which is smothered in salsa prior to serving.
Everything I saw was spotless, elegant, and beautifully decorated. It's a new fave, and I will go back. When I do, I want to try one of their pastries: conchas, chocolate or strawberries and cream filled croissants, and more.
This was a great place for a meet-up with a good friend. It would also be great for a date with my wife, a business lunch, or small groups. The dining room is not very big, so large groups would need to find another option.

“El Pocito Mexican Tortillería is one of those rare places that should be preserved as a historical and cultural landmark, not just a business. According to locals, it’s been around for over 100 years, and after eating here, I believe it.
The building is old, worn, and unapologetically traditional. Nothing fancy, nothing staged. They still make handmade tortillas using real nixtamalized corn, the way it has been done for generations. The flavor is deeply rustic, pure, and incredibly good. This is the kind of food that reminds you how things used to taste before shortcuts and additives took over.
The gorditas are excellent. Thick, freshly cooked, and generously filled with options like meat and chicharrón. You can also buy plain gorditas, fresh tortillas, or masa to take home and cook yourself. Many people order to go, and seating is very limited, but that’s part of the experience. This food is meant to be eaten fresh and right away.
They are cash only, and while I don’t know the reason, everything is clean, well organized, and professionally done. You can see the process. You can smell it. Nothing here feels artificial.
Most importantly, the flavor hasn’t changed. That matters. Places like this are disappearing fast, and once they’re gone, they’re gone forever. El Pocito is a reminder of real food, real tradition, and real craftsmanship. Support it while it’s still here“

“I will start with the tacos, they are high quality and they load them up!! I usually get trompo and tripa tacos. The tripa is always delicious. Service is ok, they are not rude or anything just ok. Music is a bit loud at times for the size of the location, regardless highly recommend this place.“

“All i have to say is this place was beyond our expectations. While waiting over an hour at another breakfast place we stumbled upon this cafe with a simple google search. My husband called to see if they had a waiting time and just our luck they didnt and even offered to reserve our table for our party. Customer service was excellent, and the food was chef kissed!! You can tell they make their food with love, it was so tasty 😋 overall this place is great and i cant wait to come back for those chilaquiles 🫢🫢“

The ambiance feels like an old Mexican style house. They did take awhile to serve us but they were quite busy. I’d love to come again to bring my parents and try something new on the menu.“

“I live in Alice, I went to this place because I saw their place in u-tube, I am glad I did because their tortillas are almost as good as the ones my mother used to make. My wife ate nopalitos and cheese cordita and she said it was the most delicious she has ever tasted. I just hope the owner realizes the kind of cooks that he or she has because these are the best kind of chefs, they learned either from their parents or grandparents or both. My compliments to the cooks and if I were your boss I would give you a raise.“

“Everything was great. Tacos were full, lemonade was great, this is one of the few places that uses an actual potato and not blended fake instant mashed potato, we got one with meat..it was so good too big considering we got 2 orders of tacos also! That potato came with a few chips, rightfully so, it was a great appetizer. Nothing personable about the service not rude but friendly enough. Great food.
Update: we went again 3 more times. Great service and consistently great food! Also I forgot my phone on the table and came back to find the wonderful staff kept it behind the counter. Much love for this place.“

“Came in here with a friend and got the fajitas tacos 🌮. They were delicious 😋. What made them really good were the tortillias de maiz. They were fresh and delicious. The fijorles a la charro were delicious as well. Service was friendly and great.

“The food was phenomenal! Steak fajitas with all the trimmings! Wow! Also, the Mexican Plate was spectacular! And our waiter for the evening, Ramon, was so polite, professional and helpful explaining some of our choices. He was prompt, courteous and very attentive on our refills, too. What a pleasure dining at this restaurant, mainly because of Ramon, and the exceptional meal. Thank you!“

“Friendly and informative staff. Brought home 2 plates ($15.14) through the app, Too Good to Go. Was instructed to fill it as long as nothing is falling out or dripping. Was able to put 4 Tostadas, 4 Quesadillas, Nopales, chorizo refried beans, chips, green Spaghetti, 3 pc Pollo en Molé, Mac & cheese, rice, baked Chicken, & Conchas. This was all straight from the hot buffet.“

Perfect for families, one night stands, and other situations you might find yourself in. The hot waitress made and ice cup for my Mexican coke on my way out.“
