“The server was really nice and fast. Food was pretty good. Chicken was a little dry but the ribs were great. Biggest issue was that the combo platter pricing on the menu was misleading. The menu makes it seem like the ribs were less expensive than they were and the sides are not in fact included. The server mentioned that other guests had complained of similar issues- what seemed like a meal that would cost 26$ the way the menu was worded, was actually 52$.“

Tonight they had a man carding at the front door. A customer came up already with a bad attitude. He didn't want to be carded and was insulted for he had been coming here for years. The gentleman minding the door whose name was Chris handled it very calmly with no attitude even though the guy calmed he didn't like Chris's attitude. the customer was clear trying to start something but only received politeness. I saw that same guy trying to start it up with another gentleman watching the door. Great job to Chris. He was also nice enough to stop and chat with me and do his job. The flavors are authentic, everything tastes homemade, and you can tell the food is prepared with real care and tradition, just like you’d expect from a good Argentine parrilla (the entraña was fantastic and perfectly cooked). I’m so glad I found this place. It’s a true hidden gem in Roanoke and the kind of restaurant you’re happy to discover. Roanoke is lucky to have it. If you’re in the area, definitely give it a try.“

“I'm giving the cookout on Hershberger, 5 stars, in contrast to the new cookout on Franklin. If the cookout on Franklin was the first one that we had in town, I would think Cook-Out was a slow poorly run- run of the mill restaurant with privileged kids running the store. Versus the 1 on Hershberger, which has attentive professional fast people running the store. And of course, the food is good, but service matters more to me than food, especially when it comes to fast food since it's all kinda the same. Whoever runs the Hershberger store should train the Franklin store. Our family won't be back to the franklin store that's for sure, and its much closer to my home and work. But we do like the Hershberger Cook-Out and the other VA and NC Cook-Out locations we have visited 👍“

“If you’re in the mood for some fried chicken, this Zaxby’s on Hershberger Road is easily one of the best fast food restaurants in Roanoke.

My wife and I DoorDash regularly, and this location has consistently been one of our favorite places to pick up from. The staff is always friendly, professional, and respectful. More importantly, delivery drivers are acknowledged and treated like valued partners instead of an inconvenience, which we truly appreciate.

I especially want to recognize Siah in the drive thru. She is one of the most motivated, compassionate, and genuinely kind employees we’ve encountered. Every interaction we’ve had with her has been positive. She treats people with respect, has a great attitude, and genuinely seems to care about the people she interacts with. Employees like Siah deserve recognition because kindness and compassion can make a bigger difference in someone’s day than they may ever realize.

From management down to the frontline employees, this location is consistently well run. Orders are usually ready on time, communication is good, and even when they’re busy, everyone works hard to keep things moving.

The food has also consistently been fresh, hot, and made correctly. Whether it’s chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches, fries, or Texas toast, we’ve always been happy with the quality.

In a time when genuine customer service can sometimes be difficult to find, this Zaxby’s continues to stand out. Great food, hardworking people, and employees who still understand the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.
