“A new place so we tried it out. All of the traditional dishes were great. The chicken being the main event. My spouse likes tilapia so she tried it. It was not good. It is not a filet so loaded with bones. Worse, it looked and tasted like it had been cooked hours before and sat under a heat lamp. Everything else was good. “We spent 5 days here in this area and went to at least 10 restaurants. This is the only restaurant that I would recommend highly. The filet mignon saltados was cooked better than the $100 steak we had somewhere else. This dish was only $21.“

“This place looked good so we wanted to give it a try. We got the pollo saltado (chicken with red onion and fries in a tasty sauce with rice) and pesto lomo (beef with spaghetti in a basil pesto). Both were served with garlic bread, and both were delicious. I asked for the chicken to be without tomatoes. Unfortunately it was served with tomatoes, but Geraldine apologized and quickly replaced it with no tomatoes. We also tried the raspberry cola inglesa (yum) and flancocho - a chocolate / vanilla-ish (?) cake that was delicious. The prices seemed a bit high, but the food and menu seemed very authentic. 100% Peruvian according to them... Our bill said "Hot and cold" so maybe it's their partner?“

The plantains and green beans stood out on their own even without rhe chicken. At any other restaurant, green beans are just a filler side item, but here they are standout delicious. Possibly the best I have ever eaten. They cleaned tables as soon as customers left. Service was great. We were totally impressed with this place. We looked at other places for dinner, and left here convinced that there is no other restaurant within nearby that would have been more satisfying.“

“I was actually shocked that when I looked and saw this place had a 4.2 stars. When we got here, we were happily surprised by cute patio setup where you can sit outside with umbrellas right on wisconsin avenue.The staff was extremely friendly.They showed us the specials for the day, which was a really good deal on a half white chicken, with two sides for fifteen dollars... I ordered plantains and cucumber salad and the cucumber salad was amazing.Very light, very refreshing and perfectly seasoned, and the french fries here are also very good. This is now my new chicken spot!“

“I’ve been coming to this location for many years, going all the way back to when this place was called El Rancho. Even back then, it was my go-to spot for Peruvian chicken. The skin was always perfectly cooked, the chicken was marinated to perfection, and the level of service was consistently excellent.

Over the years, the restaurant evolved into Hondu Pollo, introducing Honduran flavors alongside their classic Peruvian dishes. In my opinion, this change only made the place better. The menu now offers a great mix of Honduran and Peruvian options, and everything I’ve tried has been flavorful and satisfying.

One thing I truly appreciate is how welcoming the environment is. I don’t speak Spanish, and at times I feel like I might be the only non-Spanish speaker in the room lol but that has never been an issue. The staff has always been friendly, patient, and helpful, and I’ve consistently felt welcomed every time I visit.

They’ve also made some updates to the interior over the years. There’s now a small bar area where the coolers used to be, and interestingly enough, they even have slot machines. At first, you might think that would make the place less family-friendly, but that hasn’t been my experience at all. I still see families with children there all the time, and the environment remains comfortable and community-oriented.

If I had to point out one area for improvement, it would be menu pricing accuracy. On my most recent visit, I ordered the pollo saltado, which was listed on the screen as $14.99, but the receipt showed $16.99, bringing the total to just under $19 with tax. The price is still reasonable for the portion and quality, but updating the menu boards for accuracy would improve transparency and prevent confusion.

That said, this place absolutely earns five stars from me. I’ve had Peruvian chicken from many places over the years, and Hondu Pollo remains one of the best I’ve ever had. The food is consistently delicious, the portions are generous, the service is reliable, and the welcoming atmosphere keeps me coming back year after year.
