“Oh man, I have not a single bad thing to say about this place. Capo was the place in Sonoma that made me fall in love with this town. Obviously the wines are amazing but what makes this place better than any other wine bar is THE PEOPLE, THE AMBIANCE, THE MANAGEMENT, THE LOCATION. This place will make you feel like home. Dom, Dana you guys are amazing and anyone who walks in here — you simply make their lives.“

Robledo Family Winery Wineries • $$

“Another winery recommended we visit this winery in Sonoma because of it's story, culture, and quality. Six of us did and it did not dissappoint. Jimmy did a wonderful job of sharing the family history, as well as the history of the winery. He also recommended great wines for us to sample and consider for purchase. I'm glad we availed ourselves to learning about how our Mexican brothers worked the fields, learned the business and became and expert, purchased land, started his on winery, and served two U.S. Presidents (Obama and Bush) and the California Gov (Swarzenegger). Oh, the wine is GREAT!“

We also really enjoyed the wine, of course. Very drinkable! It was fun to learn about the different soils each wine grows in, as well, after asking a few questions. Would 100% come again if we’re ever in the area for another vacation.“

Hamel

Hamel Winery • $$$
15401 Sonoma Hwy, Sonoma

“Hamel Winery was one of the highlights of our trip. The property itself is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views that make the experience feel special from the moment you arrive.

A huge thank you to Emily, who walked us through the history of the winery and made the tasting feel much more personal than your typical wine experience. Getting to see the cave and learn about the winemaking process added so much depth to the visit.

The wines were fantastic, and as someone who typically gravitates toward whites, I was pleasantly surprised by how approachable and enjoyable their reds were. They were balanced, easy to drink, and a great reminder not to overlook reds just because they’re outside your usual comfort zone.“

Schug Winery Wineries • $$
602 Bonneau Rd, Sonoma

“My wife and I have been to Schug several times over the past 10-15 years: it's a must-visit winery whenever we're in Sonoma.

If we go with friends we usually get a tasting. The tasting room is small but comfortable. If you do a cave tour you'll enjoy one of several spacious tasting rooms scattered throughout the cave. Whether it's unreasonably cold outside or scorching hot, the cave is always a comfortable temperature.

If it's just the two of us we usually grab a bottle and hang out under the trellis outside one of the cave entrances. It's a gorgeous setting and the trellis provides just enough protection from the sun that you can comfortably enjoy the outdoors and the beautiful scenery.

They are known for their pinots, but we like their chards just as much. It's an absolutely wonderful place to visit with friendly and genuinely good-hearted people working there.

On this visit we brought our adult children for their first Sonoma wine tasting! Theresa gave them an experience they'll never forget. It was like she was a part of the family. The conversation was so enjoyable we had to delay our next winery tour; we just couldn't walk away. Thank you Theresa!“

Highway 12 Winery Tasting Room Winery • $$

“While walking around Sonoma Square, we happened to pass this tasting room and noticed the tasting was only $25 for several wines. It was a refreshing change from the many places charging $50 or more for just a few samples, so we decided to stop in.

Greg gave us a warm welcome, explained the tasting options, and took the time to talk about each wine we tried. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the experience enjoyable from start to finish. We especially appreciated trying a few unique wines that really stood out.

We enjoyed the experience so much that we joined the wine club, which made our tastings complimentary. This ended up being the highlight of our time in Sonoma Square, and we'd definitely recommend stopping by.“

Nicholson Ranch Winery Wineries •
4200 Napa Rd, Sonoma

“Been here a couple times and each time was a lovely time. My friend invites us here and he puts together a brunch in the picnic area which is a pretty cool setup. And the Nicholson Ranch is such a beautiful property. And has great views.

I couldn’t tell you about if they served food or anything because each time we visited we would first do picnic brunch then wine taste. The wine is also lovely. They have great selection of wine but I loved the Pinot Noirs.

The service is awesome. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. I don’t know if our wine pourer was a sommelier but she had lots of stories about wine and the Ranch. Forgive me I didn’t write her name down but she was very nice and can keep great conversation.“

“We stumbled upon this place by complete chance and we were met with surprise after surprise. Who knew about Kamen’s history ! Maybe people do but we certainly didn’t. It was really interesting to learn about his past - starting all the way back in india in kashmir and ending at where he did - a winning screenplay writer and certainly a winning Cabernet for us! This was the best Cabernet we had in the region. Not overpowering yet so complex. Mark herold is a magician with his winemaking and Kamen himself is a magician given everything he touches turns to gold! Great stop. Andi hosted us at the tasting room and was a great story teller! We would highly recommend“

Gundlach Bundschu Winery Wineries • $$
2000 Denmark St, Sonoma

“There are wineries you visit, and then there are wineries you experience—and this is firmly the latter.
From the moment you arrive, the setting invites you to slow down and take it all in.

They offer exceptional private tours and thoughtfully curated tasting options, along with a variety of seating areas that let you fully appreciate the surrounding beauty.

For the full experience, I recommend picking up a charcuterie basket and a bottle of wine, then heading out to their private trail. At the top of the hill, you’ll find a peaceful picnic area overlooking a serene pond and endless rows of vines stretching across the rolling hills.

I found the perfect spot overlooking the water, with the vineyard unfolding in every direction. A soft breeze, a slightly warm day, my favourite music playing quietly in the background—it felt effortless and complete, just a simple table, a bottle of wine, and a moment that stayed with me.

This is one of those places you don’t just visit—you feel it. Go, and you’ll understand exactly what I mean.“

“The wine doesn't taste good.
Probably because of European Italian wine, the taste is very bland, without layers, and very dry.
Except for the first glass of sparkling rose, which was okay, the rest of the red was not good.“

His sidekick Craig (newer trolley guide) was amazing as well, always a fun story, they worked well together, making it a fabulous day. Other groups of passengers contributed to the amazing experience and getting to know and chat with different groups at each of the four wineries made this day excursion the best! “I’ve been a member of Cliff Lede and several Wilson wineries, all of which I love, but this has become my favorite. I think Shane is an excellent winemaker and the variety of wines is amazing. I drink mostly reds (love especially the Hermit blend and blaufrankisch as well as the cab franc) but the Albariño white is excellent as well. The virtual tastings in the past two years have also been great introductions to the wines. Highly recommend.“
