“So glad to know that our favorite Hong Kong style noodle place is back at the same location as the late Beyond Cafe with apparently the same chef but new owners and an expanded menu! Their wonton noodle soup (exquisitely complex broth with taste of dried scallops, springy noodles, and perfect wontons with juicy ground pork and plump shrimp) and spicy beef brisket noodle soup (tender chunks of gelatinous beef in a nicely balanced spicy beef broth and springy noodles) are so good it will be difficult to try other delicious looking offerings on the new menu!“

“So delicious. Had the pork sheng jian bao, chili oil wonton and Chinese broccoli. Pork sheng jian baos were amazing, the soup was delicious, and the crispy bottom was a nice touch to the soup dumpling, something i don't see often. Chili oil wonton were delicious as well. Service was timely and friendly. I would definitely come back here again.
no wait on a Monday night right at opening time 5pm for dinner“

“Good food, but expensive for what it is. Very authentic and has a similar flavor profile as some of the noodle places I've had in Japan. I ordered the duck soba and the soup was quite bitter and medicinal. I can see why some people like it but personally not for me.“

“We arrived at 4:50pm on a rainy Sunday and waited ~45mins to get seated (group of 3). The restaurant’s capacity can accommodate 28 guests and they were very efficient with their process (i.e. they took note of group size in line, made sure people reviewed the menu before getting seated, and they had an one-hour limit). Our service was quick. We had both the signature and spicy versions of Tori Paitan, and spicy lamb ramen. Also an order of their seasonal Hokkaido uni and A5 wagyu hand roll. The broth of all 3 ramens was rich, full of umami. Spice added more to the flavor but almost non-existent on the heat front. Chashu was a great balance of fatty part and meat. The fried shaved carrots and eggplant in the lamb ramen were such a pleasant touch to the bowl of perfectly chewy ramen. The A5 wagyu was buttery and melted in your mouth good. Uni was just okay - I had higher expectations with Hokkaido uni. The sushi rice was a bit on the dry side as well. All being said, I’d still say this is a place I would return.“

“Slow evening evening in at Mr. Liu Noodle house had a warm and calming dinner. I had the House Special original beef noodle soup. The portion is a healthy size so it’s quite filling by itself with good depth of flavor. I was told it was slightly spicy, but couldn’t really taste any, I don’t actively seek very spicy stuff but do enjoy spice to a dish. I added two small spoons of chili oil to add some of that spice to the dish so if you are concerned about spicy, unless you are incredibly sensitive it is very low spice. I ordered a side of the pork ribs as well, they were tender and fall off the bone with good flavor, but personally would’ve liked if they were slightly crispier exterior with like a broil or something to finish. Overall very happy, the meal was warm, filling and comforting in a slightly chilled evening“

“*Fyi before leaving a review I do try places 2 times prior to making a review* Love the noodle soup here. Everytime I am in Berkely I always stop here hungry or not. Its a small hole in the wall restaurant with very small tables that are cramped together. Its a nice place but the lack of room takes away from it. Wait times vary depending on what time you get there. Also, customers are very close by, standing in line staring at their phones or at you wating their turn to finally sit down. You order and pay on a tablet once seated. After trying almost everything on the menu, my go to is just the Beef noodle soup, spicy broth and thick noodles. It does not lack flavor and is never overly salty. The beef is always tender and noodles have the right amount of chew and taste fresh. On the side, the house wontons in chili sauce. A little salty and not really spicy in my opinion but flavorful with a good chew from the dough. Can be a little loud but once your food arrives I have noticed people stop talking to their companions and just eat. Good sign. This place is has always consistently good.“

“The pho broth was so delicious. The chefs special and a number 2.
I may not be a pho expert however this pho was well worth the 40 min drive.
Service wasn’t bad, had a bit of a language barrier.
When we walked in we thought of turning around as the outside and inside are not appealing to the eyes. However the flavor makes up for it 10fold. Will surely be back“

“This place has officially ruined ramen for me. Because if I go somewhere else, I’ll compare it to this place, and just be like, “Damn, I should’ve just gone to Taniku Izakaya instead.”
Perfectly cooked noodles in a flavorful broth, both the crab and the pork that I have gotten have been amazing. They can adjust the spiciness on the broth if you can’t handle too much spice, which is nice. The portions are generous, but not so huge that there ends up being a huge bowl of broth even after you finish your noodles. Delicious gyoza, as well.
It’s a nice, cozy, hole in the wall spot.“

“Says feed 2-3, but with the cheese and glass noodles our family of four now have lunch boxes for a week. This is the kind of meal that will send you into a regenerative coma where you will meet your ancestors. Perfect after a hard weeks work or an arduous adventure with the gang at the local watering hole.“

“Solid Chinese yum, not the standard Chinese-American.
Popo Noodles, with rice-wine braised pork belly is savory, soy-based comfort; egg noodles cooked to still-chewy perfection, dressed for flavor but still dry. Pickled Bamboo Shoots add-on, a must, to cut through the light meat fat.
A good option when at Spark Social.“

“A bit of a hole in the wall restaurant serving Chinese food with an emphasis on noodles. I had the bbq pork bun and tan tan mien, both of which were really fresh and flavourful. Prices are pretty standard and the portions are pretty big for the price. The place was completely empty when I went there during lunchtime on a weekday so service was quite fast. There was one guy tending to the front of the store and he was polite and attentive. Overall, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.“

“I’ve been eating soup all week so when my friends wanted to grab ramen I was looking at what else was on the menu. Big pieces of salmon. Great sauce. Garnishes were delicious. Cold beer served in a glass. It just felt comfortable and the noodles looked great I just wanted something light and fresh.“

“I was pleasantly surprised by this spot! We ordered the noodles and dumplings, and everything was delicious. We spent about $100 for 3 people (no drinks), which felt fair for the quality. The space is small and very clean—perfect for a casual meal or a small group. I’ll definitely be back! The cucumbers were my favorite!!“

“Suzu is such a gem in Japantown. Every dish we tried was comforting, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the broths were rich without being heavy, and the toppings were generous and well balanced. The fried chicken was especially standout. Crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and incredibly satisfying.
I also loved the variety on the menu. Whether you want something warm and soupy, something chilled and refreshing, or a hearty curry, there’s something for every mood. Everything felt thoughtfully composed rather than thrown together.
The atmosphere is cozy and unpretentious, exactly what you want from a neighborhood noodle spot. Service was friendly and efficient, and the space has charm that makes you want to linger.
Highly recommend if you’re in the area and craving comforting food. I’ll definitely be coming back.“

“I cannot say enough good things about Tin Vietnamese. Their pho has literally been getting me through my pregnancy. It always arrives incredibly fresh, the portions are generous, and the pho gà is perfection every single time. Big, tender chunks of chicken breast, flavorful broth, and consistently fresh ingredients — they never miss.
I even order extra broth with ginger to sip in the mornings, and it’s the only time I don’t feel nauseous and get morning sickness with my pregnancy. That’s how comforting and high-quality it is. The chả giò is always fresh, crunchy, and delicious too!
My fiancé is now completely hooked as well (which is great because we order at least once a week!). This place has become a staple in our home, and they have never disappointed. Highly, highly recommend.“

“Really good grilled pork banh mis, loved all of the ingredients but wish the inside of the actual baguette were scooped out to make it easier to eat. A little expensive at ~$20 after tip and taxes but probably on par with other lunch spots in FiDi. Would try their vermicelli or rice plate next“

“Cool place (love the decor/style), nice staff & tasty food. Some dishes you will not find in the average Thai restaurant in the Bay Area. For example, the chef or owner is from northern Thailand so the menu features a top Northern Thai dish - Kao Soi noodle soup (beef or chicken), or the all time fav 'street food' grilled pork skewers (moo ping) served with sticky rice (ck out the menu on their website). I had the Pad Kemao Chicken (menu says beef but they are happy to make dishes with what you like & even have Beyond Meat dishes on the menu - cool to see stir fried basil with Beyond Meat (Krapao Beyond Neur)). The taste of my wok fried pad kemao was delicious, same or better than any I've had on prior trips to Bangkok. Glad to have discovered a solid Thai restaurant that doesn't have watered down flavors. Good to see they have a lot of gluten free and vegan choices on the menu too. Definitely will be back, keep up the good work!“

“I walked through the trenches of San Francisco at 9pm to the only open pho place in the area. I was greeted at the door by Phong and he sat me immediately. Phong was a very pleasant server and was so accommodating. He brought me over every garnish you could’ve imagined without me even asking. I ordered the beef combination pho and it was phenomenal! The best I’ve ever had, it truly hit the spot.“

“It was raining, so we randomly stopped by a nearby Vietnamese spot, and it ended up being a great surprise. The broth was super rich and flavorful. I ordered the spicy shrimp noodle dish, but it wasn’t the type of noodles I expected. When I asked about it, they were kind enough to change it for me—free of charge.
The service was really friendly, and the place felt like a cozy, old-school neighborhood restaurant. Great food, great service, and a very comforting experience. Would definitely come back.“

“Very solid tofu banh mi (heavy on the veggies but i’d rather extra than not enough) and delicious shrimp summer rolls. I wish their peanut sauce was thicker as it was kind of giving peanut dressing versus sauce, but nonetheless still tasty.“

“At this location, the fried garlic is served separately—a detail I truly appreciate. I also really enjoy their thin egg noodles, which strike a perfect balance between chewy and tender without becoming overly soft. However, the dish tends to be quite oily, so if you prefer lighter meals, this might not be ideal for you.
My usual order is the Number 1 without kidney, with the soup served on the side. I also always add fish cake as an appetizer. The total cost for two regular dishes plus one appetizer comes to $53.75.
What I love about this restaurant is how it evokes the authentic flavors of Thailand’s street food, especially the dry yellow egg noodles. While it doesn’t include traditional Thai-style char siu or wontons, the taste remains quite close to home.
This well-established Chinese restaurant impresses me with its surprisingly clean restrooms, likely due to my morning visits. Parking can be difficult, as only metered street parking is available. The branch tends to be busy, so clear communication with staff is important. Although there may be a short wait, the service is attentive and friendly.“

“Monster Pho is an absolute gem, both in terms of food + value, and community support; they've just announced that until SNAP benefits are fully restored, kids under 12 can get pho for free if you show them your SNAP card (and a discount for parents, but no purchase necessary for the kids' pho).
I could not be prouder or more grateful to have a business like this in our area. Get some delicious food and support their community efforts! I love their bahn mi, it's definitely one of the best values in the area, and I've never had to wait long for take out (can't speak to dine-in service but I would guess it's also fab).“

“We ordered Salted Boiled Edamame as an appetizer, Unagi Rice Bowl, Tonkatsu Ramen, Miso Tonkatsu Ramen and a bottle of local Nigori Sake. The Tonkatsu soup is very umami delicious paired with seaweed, bamboo shoots, thinly sliced ear mushrooms, half boiled egg and two cuts of boiled pork Chashu. The Unagi Rice Bowl has two skewers of Unagi, which lacks more roasting, it needs to be burned or toasted more. It has a combination of fresh seaweeds, fresh salad and plain rice. There were three of us and we paid a little over $80. We will definitely come back for more Ramen and Yakitori. This place is highly recommended!“

“This place is tucked away on Park Street and is definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves no-frills Chinese food. The atmosphere is quiet and casual, making it a comfortable spot for a low-key meal.
One of the must-haves to order here is the cucumber salad. We also tried the zhajiangmian and the braised pork over rice bowl, both of which were very tasty with a lot of flavor. What I appreciated most was the portion sizes; they're satisfying without leaving you overly full.
The service was really good, with staff who are very helpful in guiding you through the menu. The restaurant recently changed ownership, which seems to have improved the overall experience.
The pricing is very affordable, especially given how expensive eating out has become these days – this place offers the best value. I'd highly recommend it for anyone looking for a tasty and affordable meal while craving Chinese food.
A few things to note: street parking is the easiest option in the neighborhood“

“We love Mugunghwa, their food is delicious & authentic. It’s a privilege to have such well established, family owned Korean restaurant around, something that is not always given. All the main dishes, I believe, come with 6 set of side dishes and please don’t sleep on them - the portions are very generous (& you can ask for refills) and are flavorful. I think they make all their kimchi in house as well.
And as a Korean, I grew loving sotbap which is basically a rice cooked in a pot where you can take out the cooked rice to a side bowl and let the rice stuck to the pot simmer in broth which makes a nutty nooroongji. So I got pretty excited when I heard they have sotbap.
Our current favorites are: Sellongtang, galbijjim and bone harjangguk. But honestly all of their stuff is great in my opinion so try whatever sounds interesting to you!!“
