“Jen and Cecy and the team at Cafe Soleil catered our wedding at the Brazilian Room, and it was a wonderful experience. The food was absolutely delicious, they took care of *everything* in the venue, and they were truly a joy to work with. Cecy was very responsive, professional, and patient with our many questions and requests. During the reception, the staff was wonderful with the passed appetizers and the bar, and the servers took care of us (bride and groom) with special attention. At the end of the evening, once our guests were done with the bar, the bartender even came out on the dance floor to teach us a line dance. :-) Jen is a treasure: her professionalism is suffused with genuine warmth, and we felt well taken care of from the very beginning of the process. And did I mention the food was amazing?“

“When I’m in El Sobrante and craving Vietnamese food, this is my go to spot. So happy it’s near my MIL!

I got the seafood pho to go this time. It was well packaged. They give you lots of seafood and veggies. Which is rare for most restaurants.

Broth was flavorful. I really enjoyed my seafood pho!“

“Often come here for my birthday. This place makes me overjoyed that I can really enjoy complex types of sushi again (after transitioning from pescetarian). A lot of places that serve meat sushi with vegan/vegetarian sushi options, tend to make them bland and overly simple (since it's usually something secondary to cater to have something at all for vegs). This place knows how to make them extremely rich and complex in flavor and texture, satisfying, filling and fun. There is a lot of love with these sushi. I highly recommend the Barbers, which is like playing Russian Roulette by including one random spicy sushi... if you get it, you're supposed to take the included shot of saké. But my absolute-absolute favorite is the The Wedge, the flavor and texture is absolutely amazing. This time around, also had the Sunset again (which has the fun display of fire), and Leahi (beets, vegan cream cheese and cashew sprinkles!)“

“Was really sad to see my favorite unique + quality brunch spot in the bay change format to being fast casual. It was such an easy brunch pick to take out of towners or friends to.

Now instead, they've become easily one of the best fast-casual food in the bay. So I really can't complain. I guess their format changed worked because I've eaten here more often than when they were full service. The value for the money you get here is pretty nuts. Still just as good ingredients & just as good preparation, all at a more approachable price point & form factor. What really gets me is I'm truly getting restaurant quality cooking for a unique cuisine I don't see very often, just a version that works better to-go. When you compare to some of the other casual lunch/dinner places in the area that have a similar format, it's really no competition. You'd be hard pressed to find a better way to spend $20-30/pp. I also love that they kept some of my favorite guilty pleasures from when they were a full service restaurant, like the knafe pancake.

Their in-house online ordering system is pretty slick and a good deal too. Works just as well as doordash without any of the bloated prices. Wouldn't mind seeing this spread around to more restaurants.“

We we rather disappointed recently when we called to make reservations for 4 for lunch on 2/25/2022 and were informed they only take reservations for 5 or more. Is this true ? “How am I the first person to review this place?? Laura is one of the best in the industry. For those that don't know, she was the right arm for Toni Gemignani, arguably the most famous pizza maker on the planet, through a whole bunch of his concepts since the beginning of both of their careers. She opened her own place in Berkeley and it's great to see her continuing to thrive at the level she did with Tony. Also the food is really good. The sleeper here might be the pasta which gets as much love as the pizzas.“

“I have been wanting to try this place for a while, and I’m so glad I finally did. The food was very fresh and delicious, and reasonably priced for the quality. The braised lamb sandwich had soft flatbread, crunchy herbs and vegetables, a tangy sauce, and perfectly tender lamb. The service was friendly, warm, and the food came out quickly. Fava is a lovely lunch spot and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant lunch in North Berkeley.“

“A Humble Plea: Bring Tanya Back!

We’ve been ordering from Hawking Bird for the last year - it’s our go-to spot for delicious fried chicken and flavorful garlic noodles. Our standard order: the Tanya Special. This ingenious dish focused on my favorite Hawking Bird offerings with none of the fluff. Imagine my disappointment when I learned this special was removed from the menu! Yes, you can alter the fried chicken bowl (sub noodles, remove the cucumber/cilantro/mint) but Tanya was generous, providing a larger portion size that cannot be recreated. Times are tough, and Miss Tanya provided some relief.

My loyalty to Hawking Bird has not wavered, I’m placing an order right now - but please consider bringing this special back!“

“This is a family run place with outdoor seating. The food is quick, fresh and tasty. Women members of the family are nicer than the men, who can be clueless and unhelpful. Sometimes the meat is recooked in the crispy tacos which are otherwise my favorite. I didn’t taste any spice so would have been nice to get a bit more spice in it . My only regret is I ate it too fast . The other ramens looked good too . Especially the spicy ground chicken (TanTan). Workers were going at it getting orders out left and right and seemed to enthusiastic about it producing yummy meals for people 🙌🏼“

“Bueno, bonito, y vegano. It was awesome. The fried tofu is crisp and has a great texture that's flakier than most. Crispy and flavorful. The nachos were really satisfying and rich in textures and flavors. Mac was also amazing. I have seen so many amazing vegan restaurants die off because it's just not a popular diet, so i totally get why it's only available Saturdays, but wow do I wish it was a mainstay“

“My dinner partner and I both agree that the physical atmosphere, and food were excellent. The place was almost empty on a Sunday night yet the service was mediocre. We had to keep tracking down the waiter for our hot water for the tea, box for take away, etc. Inattentive. The staff also seemed unhappy or dissatisfied with their jobs. The prices have gone up so don’t feel we got value for our money“

“Vegan (& Gluten-free) flavors! I loved the pluot, the dark chocolate, and the walnut (that has no pieces of nuts in it, which is really helpful to those like me who can’t have much fiber). Additionally, I found all three flavors more refreshing than (sickeningly) heavy, and the flavors 🤩 🎇—like the grand finale of a fireworks show for the taste buds. I’ve only had about a spoonful of each so far but am in love 😍🤤😋. I didn’t go to the shop, someone brought me some, so I’m not able to give my opinion on the actual shop. From what I heard, though, it wasn’t as crazy as many ice cream places are on hot weekends! 😊“
