“The reviews are pretty mixed here - from horrible to fantastic. If one is realistic, you know what you get: not-so-fancy food in a not-so-fancy chain restaurant at not-so-fancy prices. My wife wanted exactly that, and she was very happy. We took a friend for a late breakfast, and he even went for the T-Bone, which was not medium as ordered, but then again, Denny's is not a steakhouse, but a diner with $20 T-Bones. Sadly, my Arnold Palmer was the worst I ever had. My hash browns and my egg were OK. Would I go again: likely. Would I make a 30+ min detour just to dine here? Absolutely not.“

“After our Altadena house burned down, we relocated to Barker Block and absolutely love being so close to Manuela. We used to have a fire table like yours, so dining here always carries a sense of home. Last night we brought friends, and they said, ‘This makes it hard to go out to eat in Monrovia—our restaurants cut corners with cheap ingredients and fast turnover.’ What your chefs create is the opposite: dishes with not just incredible flavor but extraordinary texture and detail. Their expertise is off the charts, and I highly recommend.“

“One of my girlfriend's favorite spots. Plenty of seating, but it definitely gets busy. We started with the guac and chips, and the taro chips were insanely crunchy and so good. I ordered the Tremendous Burger, and it definitely lived up to the name. Juicy, flavorful, and one of those burgers I'd happily order again. The pizzas looked delicious too, so I'll definitely be back to try one. The whole staff was super friendly which made the experience even better“

“I grew up in this area 68 years ago and now live out of State. My family has a nearby home. While visiting, we stumbled on the Heights and they are the bomb! 5 stars hands down! They have excellent sandwiches among other great dishes. The sandwich rolls are the most delicious crispy French bread you ever had! They don't skimp on the sandwich contents no matter which one you choose. Oscar provides outstanding counter service and even let's me change out a few ingredients at no additional charge! Ignore any line, this place is worth any wait.
I would post my sandwich but it was so good I already finished it.“

“Bit of a long wait but we expect that on a Sunday morning. All family members, including kids, cleaned their plates. My veggie omelette was solid. Reminded me of an omelette bar! But the real star of the show was the hashbrowns. I’ll be thinking about them for the rest of the week lol. Our server was very nice. Honestly, all staff were friendly. We’ll be back. “I had an interesting experience because I had my mind set on trying plates I witnessed from previous reviews however much of it I didnt get to try because of seasonal changes. With that, I ended up getting the Salmon dish for entree, ceviche for app and the chocoflan for desert. It was all fabulous.“

“How did this quirky gem evade my notice for five years?! I guess because they're only open Friday and Saturday. This may be the best restaurant in Pasadena. Inventive creole-inspired food. “On a Monday, I was frantic to find a comfortable place to host 35 people for a post funeral reception on Friday. I called Chris at Bon Vivant and he took care of the rest. He arranged everything , communicated well and easily and when we got there on the day of, everything was laid out, the food was prepared, Christian and his crew were on hand to make sure everyone had water and drinks. The food was perfect and SO plentiful. The atmosphere was gorgeous as always, and the crew could not have been nicer. It really was the best I could have hoped for on so many levels. I can't say enough good things about the whole experience. These people are the real deal-in a time that was very difficult for me, they cared enough to help and take a huge weight off of me. After we had all our flowery-needs yesterday I asked my wife to Yelp "best breakfast in DTLA" and it popped up - the Poppy & Rose - and we were standing in front of it. I must say two things: I did not find the ambiance too appealing and they you could hear through the open door it was extremely loud. Still, we gave it a try - and I can tell you: it was delicious. Our server - one you would describe as the typical California surfer boy - was extremely charming - so despite the so-so ambiance (the vibe of this place was great though) and the noise we will definitely go again. Would we make a 30+ min detour just to eat here (mandatory in my rating scheme to achieve five out five): again, oh yes!“
