“Excellent pizza, cute atmosphere, and good service. The Neopolitan pizza (i.e., The Benchmark) was excellent as was the caesar salad. Been here twice — the first time the pizza crust was a bit hard, so I wish they would make it fluffier Italian-style, but the second time it was more on-point. Would go again!“

The bread is delicious, their classic ravioli is a must-try, and the gnocchi was also amazing. Just FYI - the garlic bread has full garlic cloves ?.Parking is a bit difficult to find depending on when you go. Also, I don't think they have a reservation system. You just need to add yourself to the wait-list online probably 30 mins before you plan to go there. Really recommend you get added to the wait-list else the wait times can be really long.Although the pizza was a bit expensive, it was tasty and I definitely plan to come back to taste the other items on the menu.Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options to choose from.“

“I’m up at 4 am, no clue why and I’m hungry. I scroll through photos of my recent trip to Italy and get hungrier. Then I randomly recall this amazing ragu I had at AltoVino. Such is the rabbit hole of my brain today.I first stumbled upon this place a few years back when my gf and I were randomly walking down this street after exploring Chinatown. Looked good, half empty, so we sat down outside for what was an amazing meal. I recall thinking “holy s***, what is this place and why is it here and why is it so good and why is it…. So good?” Since then we’ve been a few times more, and each time was equally amazing. For me what I find particularly fascinating about this place is its own unique balance across its often refreshed menu. It’s an intelligently restrained yet creative balance of tradition and new “California” flair. One dish may stick rather close to a traditional Amatriciana while another consists of an intriguing mixture of ingredients that just simply makes sense once tasted. There’s something for everyone and everything is excellent. It speaks to the experience and refined palate of the owners. All paired with a fantastic wine menu, your meals will be memorable here each time.I’ve recommended this place to anyone that has asked me, “what are some top places to eat in SF?” And I swear on baby Jesus that AltoVino has come out of my mouth within the first 3 places I mention, each time. And to this day, well I suppose to this late morning - I still don’t know why this place isn’t booked out every single evening. It’s bizarre. So ignore reviews that say “we weren’t satisfied because we were still hungry afterwards.” Which, is one of the dumbest reasons for mediocre reviews because, what, a restaurant is supposed to figure out or cater to your appetite? Ignore reviews that say “oh this place wasn’t authentic.” Hmm what sort of authentic were you looking for? What is authentic at the end of day?Because if authentic is a menu honoring its ingredients, staying true to the local spirit while paying generous and fantastic homage to the cuisine’s roots, then this is one such place.Ok back to sleep.“

“Authentic Italian dining experience. The tonnarelli pasta was incredibly unctuous and savory with the perfect balance of mushrooms, cream and ground Italian sausage. I would absolutely order it again. The rigatoni all'Amatriciana was bright, tart, from the tomato sauce, and offset by the slight salty, savory quality of the pork cheek. Service was just right. You can spend a lot more to eat “upscale” pseudo-Italian food at places like Aquerello or Sorella. At the latter, the manager will tell you that you need to leave after an hour or so to make way for the next round of guests. Never mind that you're being charged a small fortune for the brief time you're there. Head to Caffe Macaroni!“

The three of us shared the risotto of the day (seafood risotto), the octopus and the veal parmigiana, while my husband just the lasagna that he really loved it (and he is very picky about it). Risotto was good even though it was more similar to paella (speaking of taste it was good), octopus was good too, while the parmigiana wasn't my favorite but just because I don't like this dish in general (my friends really liked it). “i came here on a friday evening with a friend around 5:45 pm. there was no line so we were seated immediately. when we left an hour later, there was a line. we came during restaurant week and they were doing a $45/person dinner menu, but i opted to just order from the regular menu since i wasn't a big fan of the appetizer options and really wanted to try the bucatini, which wasn't on the restaurant week menu. when our food arrived, the portions seemed slightly on the smaller side so in retrospect i felt like it would've been nice to get an appetizer to share, but none of the appetizer options were that appealing to me. i like burrata but it came with mushrooms and i don't like mushrooms (this is just a personal preference, though). even though the portions were small, i wasn't hungry but i also wasn't full, which left plenty of room for dessert. we ordered the nutella sundae - it felt a bit much for 2 people (3 is probably a better number), and there was a LOT of syrup. as for the ambiance, the biggest impression i got was that the music was pretty loud. this made the atmosphere not conducive to intimate conversations, so i would mostly go here if i wanted a fast dinner at an early time. otherwise, i feel that the atmosphere is not worth the wait.“

“I visited the restaurant before the renovation and, despite having a retro decor, wasn’t impressed by the food. This time around, under new ownership and renovation, I was pleasantly surprised. First, food was really good. Huge portions, homemade personalized cooking. I hope it stays the same way, there are a lot of seafood items I’d like to try. I got seafood risotto, it was really good; husband got a huge calzone and said it was amazing.Ambiance is lovely, live piano adds to the charm.Lastly, service was good. Will be back!“

The setting was lovely with art on the walls and italian music -- was it an opera?!? on the stereo. Good service, great meal. Enjoyed by all.“

“As a pizza connoisseur, when I heard about Roman style pizza, 'pinsa', with a different dough, I was immediately curious. As they note on their website, pinsa dough is made from a combination of soy flour, rice flour, and wheat flour, creating a crust that is light yet crunchy and satisfying. We ordered the Formaggio di Capra e Spinaci for some greens to go with, and then got the Quattro Formaggi and Prosciutto e Fichi for our pinsas.I find salads from pizza places to be very hit or miss; and Gusto Pinsa's salad was certainly a hit. The salad was perfectly dressed - it had a ton of flavor with the dressing, tomatoes, goat cheese, cranberries and walnuts coming together to provide an interesting textural contrast, with a nice hit of black pepper. The pinsas were the star of the meal though, as expected. Although I'm not the biggest fan of cheese only pizzas, the Quattro Formaggi was excellent! It was super cheesy and salty (in the perfect way), and the splotches of sauce provided nice balance to the saltiness of the cheese. The Prosciutto e Fichi was the preferred pinsa by myself and my partner, with the prosciutto and fig glaze providing a nice saltiness and sweetness that contrasted very well with the Quattro Formaggi. If you haven't tried Roman style pinsa yet, what are you waiting for? These pinsas were delicious and somehow felt much lighter than eating a regular pizza. We will be back!“

“They made it easy to order ahead online the Sfinge pastry which is made only one day a year. The staff were friendly when I picked it up and the cute little old fashioned space was so North Beach. The pastry itself was delicious and I highly recommend it. The shell was nice and soft with a dusting of sugar and the custard filling was light and fluffy. I would like to try the ricotta filling next year and more of the custard ones!“
