“FAT PANDA IN LAFAYETTE: A GLORIOUS FEAST, A SACRED FOOD DEBT JOURNEY
Step into Fat Panda in Lafayette, California, and you enter a world where food debt is not a burden, but an honor. This isn’t just a place to eat—this is where you indulge in the finest Chinese-American cuisine, with every bite carrying the weight of your inevitable food debt that you wear like a badge of honor. Every penny spent is a glorious investment in the art of flavor, a decision that you will never regret, no matter how many bank alerts follow.
The Beijing Beef—a revelation. The crispy, tender beef tossed in a rich, savory sauce that sings with every bite. Each piece is a perfect balance of sweetness and heat, wrapping you in layers of decadence. You will find yourself sinking deeper into food debt with every bite, yet unable to stop, because how can you ever deny such perfection?
Then there’s the Orange Chicken. The gold standard. So crispy, so tangy, and coated in a sauce that’s the perfect mix of sweet and citrusy. It’s an intoxicating dance of flavors that will have you begging for more, sinking you deeper into the bliss of food debt, but, truly, this is a debt you are happy to accrue. Why fight it when every bite feels like a personal reward for your willingness to surrender to its glory?
And let’s not overlook the Apple Pie Rolls—oh, the Apple Pie Rolls. A glorious, warm bite of crispy, golden-brown perfection with a sweet apple filling that feels like a warm embrace for your soul. Every piece is a journey to a higher plane, where food debt becomes an offering rather than a concern. When you dip them in the accompanying cream sauce, you’ve sealed your fate. You’ll be in debt for days, but it’s worth every moment of it.
And, of course, the Chicken Egg Rolls—crispy, filled to the brim with savory chicken and vegetables, perfectly fried to achieve that delicate crunch. These rolls are the epitome of indulgence, each bite building the mountain of food debt that you’ll happily climb again and again.
In Lafayette, Fat Panda is the ultimate destination, where every dish is a celebration of flavor, and every meal is a pact with food debt. You will surrender your finances, but what you receive in return is unmatched greatness—and a feeling that you have tasted the very essence of culinary glory.“

“Lanzhou is an ancient, desert city on the old Silk Road so its culinary heritage is as wide as it is deep. While I’ve not been there I would like to think the food here is pretty authentic Gansu province cuisine. It’s always a good sign when a restaurant is popular, but it’s a better sign when an Asian restaurant is full of Asian patrons. Everything we had here was good. The chili crunch oil condiment (which is mild and has smoky, earthy flavor) made everything even better. Guaranteed I’m going back.“

“Stopped by while driving through the area and wasn't familiar with the style of Chinese food or the terminology of the menu, but the woman at the counter explained which menu item was chow mein. Placed my customized order for chicken chow mein (they were out of pork) and used their restroom. I was delighted with the restroom because so many businesses are closing them to the public these days. Came out of the restroom and they were still cooking my dish! They apparently make most of their dishes to order instead of premaking the dishes and keeping them warm. When I got out to my car, the chow mein was so hot I burned my mouth a little bit! I've never had Chinese that fresh in my life! The seasoning was very good and not at all like what I am used to. If you are looking for traditional, boring Chinese food, you don't want to come here. However, if you are interested in fresh Chinese food that's doing it's own thing, give this place a try! The only regret I have is that the portions aren't bigger, because I could have eaten a lot more it was so good!“

“The food is ridiculously good. Like, flavors on point, not overly salty, everything light and tasty. Honestly this is hands down some of the best food in the area. And it’s really not expensive at all for the generous portions. I can’t wait to come back, such a great addition to the area. Definitely give it a try if you want what to me seemed like some of the most authentic Szechuan in the east bay.“

“Very homie type of comfort food. Food always tastes great have been going here for years ! Salt and pepper chicken is my go to favorite. Small interior so best for takeout. The cooks are great, host is always nice. Be warned it can get crazy busy on weekends especially evenings, its better to order in person and just grocery shop nearby while you wait.“

“Very solid noodle spot in Alameda. The chicken wonton/noodle soup was flavorful/kid friendly, and we enjoyed the Taiwan beef noodle soup, zhajiang noodles, garlic cucumber salad and spicy wontons. I liked the chewy thick-cut “sharpened” noodles. I believe they have bbq skewers at dinner (we stopped in for lunch). We’re excited to try other noodle dishes and the Taiwanese braised pork & rice when we return!“

“This is one of my two favorite Chinese places in the Bay Area. I've been going there for like 15 years, miss them a lot when I'm in DC working. It's a very affordable place, the lunch deluxe deal is unbeatable. They can also do dishes that are not in the menu for the connoisseurs like pak chit kai, the traditional steamed half hen with a tangy and tasty ginger garlic scallion condiment. It's no frills, but we are not here for a Michelin experience but to eat really delish Chinese Cantonese plates. And the owners are always really nice and they speak Spanish (at least some, and they are funny)“

“My son recommended this place, and I’m sorry I waited so long! We ordered so much food they had to move us from a 2-top to a 4-top just to accommodate! We took a lot of leftovers, but there’s not one dish I would have removed from our order. Everything was felt, you could taste the various flavors of dumplings, the noodles were amazing and not “too saucy”, you could really taste the noodle. I HIGHLY recommend- and, the prices are incredible.“

“Yummy Chinese food! Potstickers are made fresh
Vegetarian options: vegetarian options available
Dietary restrictions: vegetarian options available, but it is an asian restaurant so dont expect a whole bunch of options for dietary restrictions like Kosher, vegan, nut free etc
Parking: located on the corner of a street, a couple of parking spots available
Kid-friendliness: kid friendly but a lot of spicy dishes
Wheelchair accessibility: not wheelchair accessible, need to go up stairs“

“We got the cold Sichuan spicy noodle, fried beef & Ho Fun, and pork soup dumplings with Thai tea. The food was amazing, definitely recommend getting a cold and hot dish, and the dumplings are very creamy and packed full of soup. The Thai tea could be stronger, but overall still 5 stars!“

“This place is hands down my favorite Chinese spot in Alameda. The owner and employees are friendly. The entrees are delicious and made quickly and the vegetables are always super fresh and plentiful! You get a lot of food for the price, so it's a great option to feed multiple people or if my partner and I order 2 (or sometimes three) entrees, we have several servings of leftovers to enjoy the next day. Love the place!“

“We visited Thanh Ky Cafe for an early brunch to beat the lunch rush. Since it’s similar to another spot we frequent, we were confident the noodles would be good—and they did not disappoint! We ordered the #9 “House Special Ho Fun,” which includes pork kidneys. The standout surprise was the addition of fried pork skin, adding a delicious crunch and depth of flavor to the dish.
If you’re in the area, it’s worth stopping by. Just be aware that the surrounding neighborhood can feel a little sketchy—after all, it is Oakland—so take a few extra precautions. Overall, tasty food and a satisfying experience!“

“Decent food, very generous portions. Both quick serve as well as a-la cart options. Even if ordering ala cart, expect some pre-prepped cold items to be served straight from the display counters. Ambiance isn't much; better suited for a takeout.“

“The food was great. I ordered the szechwan shrimp. It was so tasty and really filling. Portions were enough at good prices. Great atmosphere and nice hometown setting. The service was non-intrusive but they always knew when I would need something like a water refill. I will definitely come back when in the area.
Parking: One hour limit parking in back of restaurant.“

“Was looking for a place to eat on my birthday new years day, my stepbro picked it out, he said he ate there 20 yrs ago, I was reluctant as it looked outdated and empty, but I was surprised when the food came in quickly, the staff was friendly and the plates of food were huge! I kept asking my bro if he accidentally ordered family size, nope. We ordered egg rolls, 1 order must have had 10 pieces! Delicious spare ribs, wonton soup, honey walnut prawns (jumbo!) Mongolian beef, they gave us almond cookies instead of fortune, that was a nice change, there was so much food leftover to take home, I'll be going back, I don't know how they can afford to give so much for so little $, very reasonable.the only thing was the place was so cold, we were both freezing. no heat!“

“I liked the food, the staff and service were great, atmosphere was good. They give you cold water about as soon as you enter today (100F day in October) so that was a nice touch.
The Dan Dan & Yibin noodles both had good flavor, I'd only dock them for how thin the noodles were. I def like a thicker noodle. Portions are on the small size but prices reflect that and I enjoy getting to order more items and try more things without investing $20 on one plate. So that was nice as well.“

“Judging by its name you can't really tell what kind of Chinese food Ark Chinese restaurant offers. I think it was probably a noodle restaurant focusing on items from northern China. However it seems that the new owners have hired a cook that can also make Cantonese dishes. As a result the menu is more extensive and there are quite a few selections to choose from.
We ordered the pan fried green onion pancake, hand pulled beef noodle soup, tomato beef chow mein, beef stew noodles and sweet sour ribs. All were fairly good but I should note that the flavors were quite intense...as in too much salt or too much sugar. If you do pay a visit, keep that in mind. You may want to tell them to cut back on the salt and spices.
More importantly the prices are quite reasonable for a restaurant on Park Street in Alameda. Entrees, dinner items, generally run around 15 dollars or so.
The decor is ho-hum but the dining room is certainly quiet....perhaps too quiet , or maybe we were there too early. They could use some flowers or some paintings to liven up the place. Maybe play some K pop or something. The wait staff are friendly and helpful though.
if you're looking for an inexpensive place to eat before you see a movie or just in the area, give Ark Chinese restaurant a try. The food might assault your taste buds but the prices won't assault your wallet.“

“During our recent visit, we decided to try the sichuan noodles, fried chicken wings, chicken and mushroom dumplings along with the XBL variety, and we were absolutely blown away by how freshly made and scrumptious they were! The flavors were rich and perfectly balanced, making each bite a delightful experience. The dumplings were cooked to perfection, with a tender, flavorful filling and juiciness.
Adding to our wonderful dining experience was our waiter, Tony. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and went out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed. His warm demeanor and excellent service truly enhanced our meal.
The restaurant had a cozy, welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The menu offered a great variety, catering to different tastes, and the food presentation was both appealing and appetizing.
I highly recommend this place for lunch, whether you're looking for a quick bite or a leisurely meal with friends and family. The combination of delicious food and outstanding service makes it a spot worth visiting again and again.“

“It's the best Chinese around these days without driving far. Excellent service but lacking in some flavor... You cover that up by requesting extra sweet and sour and you can enjoy the menu.
I'm a chef so I'm a food snob, but I'm used to New York Style Chinese food and I was addicted to that. West coast Chinese is whelming at best.“

“Yang Chow in Oakland might not catch your eye at first glance—it’s a small, older spot. But trust me, the Chinese food scene here often surprises. While I’m not claiming it’s the best, the fried rice was enjoyable, and the portion sizes were generous, easily enough for two. Service could improve, but the prices are reasonable. Overall, it was a decent experience—nothing spectacular, but satisfying“

“Nice little hole in the wall restaurant!
Today I had the Mongolian beef... I actually tasted the wok hei. Soft velveted cuts of meat wok fried at high heat for a minute. It tasted like it was barbecued for an hour but I only have a 30 minute lunch and I got it in 5 minutes after I ordered. It is a must try, everything i have ever ordered was great and I have been here 3 times!
Thank you chef!“
