“Came here for dinner and left feeling like I'd just eaten at home. The Aloo Tikki was crispy and perfectly spiced, the Chana Chalupa was a fun twist, and the Noormahal Lasagna was something I haven't seen anywhere else. The Veggie Fun came out at exactly the spice level I asked for, and they were happy to swap in garlic naan. Everything was well cooked and the flavors felt genuinely authentic, which is hard to find in LA.
The service really stood out too. The staff was warm, attentive and super sweet the whole night. You can tell they care about their guests. Highly recommend Roots Indian Bistro, and I'll definitely be back.“

Was in Hollywood for a conference with a few colleagues and we were all craving Indian food. A colleague's friend told us, go to Badmaash, you will not regret it. The name got me curious. Badmaash is Hindi for naughty, so we had to try it.

Even the Uber ride was fun. The driver, a Syrian immigrant who runs his own VIP car service, was a lively, chatty guy and somewhere along the way asked me for a garam masala recipe. I gave it to him and he was super thankful. Giving out garam masala recipes on the way to an Indian restaurant, the cephalic phase of digestion was already in full swing.

Walked in and the first thing I saw was Sharifon ki Nagri written on the wall in Hindi, which means City of Angels. Naughty in the city of angels. I couldn't stop smiling.

We ordered papdi chaat, onion pakodas, cutting chai, saag aloo, aloo gobi, dal tadka, chicken wings, chicken biryani and kulfi. I stuck to the vegetarian stuff. The chaat was average but the pakodas were crispy and done right, like the ones from a shop in north India where the guy does nothing else. The aloo gobi hit me the most. Exactly how my mom makes it in a typical Punjabi household, jeera tadka, no tomato, nothing complicated. Just simple. Dal tadka was the same, simple and good. Saag aloo was low on oil and very lightly flavored, done just right.

I don't know the chef and didn't get to meet him or her, but I want to say it, you are a master of your craft. Running a modern, smartly designed place and still keeping the food this simple is not easy. I have no idea where the name comes from, but my guess is someone who loved the owner called them badmaash. The food tells that story. If you are in the area this is a must, even for an everyday meal.“

“I am a fool for not trying out Chef Arango sooner. I live very close, 10 mins or less away. I also moved to the area 4 years ago and only now am I coming here. After this visit I will easily be back and I will be back often.

Chef Arango is comfort food at its finest. The prices are phenomenal, the quantity is bountiful, the food is made fresh with it still being piping hot, and the food is simply yummy. This restaurant and team is like being cooked for by your family. I really don’t know how else to describe this restaurant and team and food. It’s like sitting down for a meal at your mum’s, or auntie’s or ammachi’s (Indian word for “grandma”) home. Simply a delicious, warming, and hearty meal!

I just can’t get over the fact that I paid $22.50 after tax (2026 prices) and got a very filling meal that was amazing tasting, freshly made, and came with loads of meat. I regret not coming sooner even though I’ve passed by hundreds of time. I will try to atone for my sins by coming back as frequently as possible!“

I eat here 2 to 3 times a week, and it never misses; Unlike a lot of Indian spots where price, quality, and portion sizes feel completely unbalanced, this place absolutely excels at all three. Art is incredibly hard-working and consistently delivers high-quality food every single time. They do an amazing job and deserve to be getting local support and outside orders on the routine. How they haven't become the go to spot for Indian food in the area is beyond me - people in the area need to wake up and stop by!“

“I’m really pleased and delightfully surprised! As someone who loves Indian cuisine, I was scared to order because of some of the one star reviews, but the food was GREAT! I got the medium chicken tikka masala which wasn’t too spicy so i’d move up spice levels if you like spice. The portions are generous and the chicken was tender, sauce was flavorful. The vegetable samosas were large and perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It comes with complimentary mint chutney and tamarind sauce too, which were so good. There is a BOGO deal on doordash which gives you so much bang for your buck. I highly recommend this place since it’s open late, and i’ll definitely be back!
