In the mood for rolls that aren’t your basic California/tuna? This place will disappoint. But, they also have great dessert! The yuzu cheesecake is SO good. It’s really only 4 stars because of the rolls being so lackluster. They also only do brown rice which is fine I guess but not preferred.“

“Since I'm a very picky Japanese food eater, I tend to avoid anything that might be Japanese where it's not 100% Japanese. That said, I do enjoy the Thai food here. It's decent and filling. The staff are polite and I like it because it's in walking distance for me.

I have tried some Japanese-ish food like the lobster rolls or teriyaki chicken. Those dishes weren't bad if you consider them more California Asian cuisine. The prices are what you might expect these days for a spot like this. They do have lunch time specials so I think those are worth making the trip if you're in the area and want some decent Thai etc or something different.“

“Despite serving authentic Japanese cuisine, the prices are very reasonable. The fish is especially fresh and flavorful, so I highly recommend the sashimi and nigiri sushi. Their house specialty soup called “San-chan” has a rich mushroom aroma and is the perfect way to finish the meal.

The restaurant is located in the former Kantaro space, but the management is completely new. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is welcoming, and overall it’s a place I would definitely recommend.“

The restaurant has had its share of ups and downs but I am happy with how strongly Okane Umi has powered up its menu and added some wonderfully flavorful genuine Japanese dishes. We got the special and regular omakase, and the special is absolutely worth the extra $20 because it comes with an amazing toro collar and tiramisu, along with more sushi, soup, and a carpaccio. For dessert, we shared the coffee macaron and it was surprisingly good light, balanced, and not overly sweet. I would definitely come back.

I’m Brazilian, and in Brazil rolls are not always appreciated or highlighted at restaurants, so I rarely order them there. But here it was truly worth it fresh fish, balanced flavors, and a great overall experience.“

We ordered a mix of rolls and sushi — Bora Bora roll, soft shell crab roll, Snow Cone roll, TNT roll, plus albacore, yellowtail, and mackerel sushi. The Bora Bora and Snow Cone rolls were definitely my favorites. The yellowtail and mackerel sushi also stood out and tasted fresh. They had some solid deals going on too, like buy one roll get one half off, buy two get one free, and drink specials including alcohol, which made it feel worth it overall. I also like that they have two locations close to me, so it’s convenient if you’re in the area. Overall a good spot if you’re craving sushi and want something reliable“

“This place was amazing!! I got the lunch special of the black miso cod and it was $19.50 and the portion was so large and truly one of the best I ever had. The sashimi was also very good and very fresh! I truly loved all the food I tried. I had also tried the blue fin tuna, yellowtail, and kanpachi and all three were very good and very fresh. The prices of the restaurant are fair for the quality.“

“Overall a solid sushi place. Their hand rolls are uniquely flavored. I do think some are a bit heavy on the salt so getting the sauce on the side made a big difference. The slices of sushi you get is a good amount which is probably what I liked the most about this place. The chili on the salmon hand roll was crispy and I wasn't expecting that so I really liked it!“

“Went to Yamashiro for the first time today! I have to say this is probably one of the best sushi places I have ever been to. The fried oysters were delicious! We ordered three different rolls and all of them were just beautiful from a presentation and artistry perspective, but tasting them was even better! The volcano roll was served on grapefruit slices, which made them very colorful and the scallops were cooked perfectly. The Yamashara roll was not only beautiful but it's the first time I have ever had mango with my sushi rolls and it actually added a really nice dimension of tropical fruit to already super fresh tasting tuna and avocado. The crispy roll had fried onions that were somehow not greasy, which was surprising. I'm wondering if they were air fried? But really great addition to texture for the rolls. We also had the yellowtail collar, which was cooked flawlessly. Oftentimes, yellowtail collar can you overcooked so part of it can be fairly dry. This caller was moist all the way around, perfect pockets of fish fat, and a very light unami salty flavor. The last thing we had, which I think was very fortunate because they don't always have it, was the Japanese tuna Ono which was cooked in a wonderful miso sauce.

I know I keep going on about this spot, but these rules were truly unique and I eat a lot of sushi, lol! Did I mention that we had a wonderful server, which I didn't get her name, but she's a Japanese woman that may have been the owner. I'm not sure, but her spirit was so respectful and refreshing and we loved her kindness and attentiveness. Really great service! I can't wait to go here again next time I visit the Redondo Beach area!!!“
