“Waka Sakura sushi fun, food order slides down conveyor belt. Saturday 3p wait at 25 minutes much better than original 1 hour forecast. Nigiri combo plates good to compare tastes. Hand rolls on menu, no need to special order. Wide ranging menu, sushi classics and more.“

“Finding an authentic sushi spot in the US run by a Japanese chef feels increasingly rare these days. While I don't believe a chef's nationality strictly dictates their capability—by that logic, only French people could cook French food—the scarcity of these traditional spots made me search even harder. That extra effort led me to Toshi Sushi in Gardena, and it was entirely worth it.
I have visited twice now, both times for Saturday lunch. A huge plus was that it wasn’t overwhelmingly busy, allowing for a remarkably peaceful and relaxed dining experience. On both occasions, the ingredients were incredibly fresh, and every plate felt meticulously prepared. They even garnish the dishes with beautiful Hawaiian flowers, which the staff thoughtfully let us know are completely edible.
Sometimes, hyper-traditional spots can be a bit too conservative with their portions of wasabi and ginger, but Toshi Sushi provides a generous amount. It’s a smart, necessary adjustment to cater to the American palate, and it made the meal much more enjoyable without the need to constantly ask for refills.
However, the exact moment I knew this place truly cared about quality came down to a single, overlooked detail: the soy sauce. Real soy sauce should always be refrigerated to preserve its true flavor profile, yet countless sushi joints leave it sitting out on tables at room temperature for weeks, simply topping off the bottles. At Toshi Sushi, the second we placed our order, they brought out a chilled bottle of soy sauce straight from the fridge. Absolute respect. That standard alone speaks volumes about their discipline.
I will definitely be heading back soon, and I'm already planning to feature this hidden gem in an upcoming review video. If you appreciate genuine quality and strict attention to detail, Toshi Sushi is highly recommended.“

“By far the best sushi I’ve ever had! The quality here is unmatched—the sushi is extremely fresh and cannot be beat. I ordered the Rainbow Roll, and it was made to absolute perfection with beautiful presentation and incredible flavor.
Not only was the sushi outstanding, but the Udon noodles were unbeatable—rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. This place really delivers on taste, quality, and overall experience.
I will definitely be back in the future. If you’re a sushi lover, Sushi Island is a must-try!“

“Tucked away with the unassuming charm of a neighborhood spot in Tokyo, this Japanese restaurant in Gardena distinguishes itself through its devotion to temaki, the hand-rolled sushi format that rewards both simplicity and precision. The menu offers dozens of variations, and the kitchen's command of the form lends the room an authenticity that feels less like a dining concept and more like a transplant.
Lunch is where the value shines. Set menus arrive with the expected miso soup and a modest side, grounding the meal without overreaching. I opted for the five-temaki selection at $26 and, rather than navigate the extensive list myself, deferred to the server's recommendations. All five arrived together, cones standing at attention, each one thoughtfully composed, the seaweed still crisp at the point of eating. It was the right call: a spread that suggested a kitchen confident enough to let its own judgment do the talking. This is my new special Japanese place.“

“Amazing small sushi spot that is open late, which is very rare in south bay! The fish are all fresh, and the omakase dinners are great as they add special sauces to each fish so it isn’t just normal sushi. We ordered the 12 piece dinner, we got a small house salad, two appetizers which included a soy sauce butter mushroom dish and a seaweed salad with octopus and conch. The meal came with 6 nigiri pieces and 6 sashimi pieces. Price is not the cheapest, but it makes sense because of how fresh and how high the quality is.“

“I order from No. 1 Chef often via Postmates. Something went wrong this time (not their fault, their computers were down), so my hubby and I took a quick trip to pick up our order. The lady was SOOOO nice and helpful over the phone. With that said, the food here is top notch! When I need comfort food, I get the egg flower soup and dumplings. The soup is ALWAYS hot and fresh and just feels like a hug. I've also ordered the egg fu yun, and trust this place is NOT stingy on the portions. Everything I've had has never disappointed. Yes, it may look like a hole in the wall, but if you want the kind of Chinese food that satisfies, give this place a try.“

“Fukuno Restaurant is a hidden gem! No need to go to Japan, this is an even better experience. We were served by a kind older Japanese duo. The sushi was incredibly fresh. Other side dishes like pumpkin, eggplant, and bamboo shoots were delicious. Everything was fantastic and I would come here again in a heartbeat.“

“Stopped in after dinner at Sushi Bei. The place have been upgraded a bit since the last ownership. Way less dive feeling (but the old way was great too!).We just had a couple drinks and didn’t sing. The atmosphere was great! A very fun party and people were having a great time. They have many premium liquors and several mezcals (my fave). Looks like they no longer have the private room in the back.I would go back and would recommend!“

“This place was awesome! I tried the spicy ramen and the golden sushi rolls (I don’t recall the entire name of them).
I went with my family, a total of five, and only spent 54 dollars. We shared the sushi and ramen as the portions were big and you get filled fast.
The staff was very attentive and the restaurant had a very calming and peaceful atmosphere.
On our car ride home, half of the car had fallen asleep. Safe to say this food was filling and satisfactory.“
